Awful

The update to this app has made it even worse. I lost everything that I had stared in the old app and now, I have to swift through photos and photos of products that are not on the shelves. I absolutely hate this so much and it made having a skin allergy so much harder. I loved how on the old version I could see all the brand names at once and then click into the product for more details. Do you really expect me to stand in target for 20 minutes and scan every shampoo bottle to just find out that none of that brand is safe for me? What a complete waste of time. If I could, I would go back to the old app in a heartbeat.

No Easily Searchable

What happened? The app was great. It used to be easy to see a list of Safe products. Now, it’s photos, not a list - but most photos are blank. And the product name is under the photo - and mostly can’t be seen. So, you have to click into each product to see the full product name. But wait, there’s more. Now, you have to log in eagerly time you use the app. So, a very each search has now become a time consuming process that often isn’t worth the time. Please offer a list view. And please enable facial recognition for login or allow app users to stay logged in. Thanks.

UI has too much noise

I use this app almost never after the update. The app looks now so crowded. Too many products don’t have their picture and the product name is not displayed in its entirety. It would be nice to have an option to switch from pictures included to just the list of products like it was in the past. Now, how relevant is it to have the “unsafe” products listed? Not on the list = not safe for the user/patient. I prefer the more simple interface with just the list of products with the search options by category, by product. Very poor user friendly design.

Huge disappointment

The 1.0 version of this app was extremely helpful for resolving my eczema. While the database was limited, the app was easy to use. This 2.0 version was a major downgrade. It’s difficult to use, the search function doesn’t work consistently, some of the old products that I used to see are no longer in this database. Only a fraction of the products have pictures, and the layout only shows two products per page on an iPhone. It seems like this app, which is intended for actual medical care, has been redesigned for commercial interests. Disappointing.

Update has made the app unusable

I hate to write this review, but I’m hoping ACDS will see these reviews and revert to the old version. This new app has all of the login issues that others have mentioned. It is virtually impossible to search for a product or brand. The search function doesn’t seem to work at all. Most dangerously I’m being shown products that contain many of my allergies. I’m allergic to all fragrances and botanicals. I’m being shown products that clearly contain those on my “safe” list. I also have many other random allergies that are difficult for me to find on an ingredient list because they go by a variety of names. Not being able to trust the app is so disappointing. ACDS - you do great work, please just go back to the old app until you can troubleshoot this version. It’s just not working!

Used to be good

This used to be a straightforward list of items that were considered safe based on my allergens. There were straightforward categories, a search option, and the option to favorite items. The recent update has added “enhancements” that have made the app almost unusable. Instead of just a list of safe items someone decided we also needed a list of unsafe items—if it’s unsafe I don’t even need to know about it. Instead of a straightforward list everything is now a tile with a squashed image of a label which means you really need to be connected to wifi or have good cell service to use the app. The previous app was hard enough to load and use with limited service but it was do able. What category is sunscreen under? Well of course it’s under “suntan preparations” because everyone knows you use sunscreen when you want a suntan. Where is eye makeup located? Well of course it located under “eye preparations” and not with all the other make-up. They also added features like reviewing products 🙄and gathering all kinds of personal information about you that they will undoubtedly collect and use for their own research. Thankfully, the personal information farming is optional. It’s incredibly frustrating to have allergic contact dermatitis and now it’s even more frustrating because a simple straightforward app has been turned into a difficult to navigate nightmare with information no one needs—again why are you showing me unsafe products?!? Who asked for that?!?

Newest update is messy and cluttered, overwhelming and not useful

I did not have the app too long before the most recent update however, this new version is a mess. It’s difficult to use and navigate, the categories are messed up and things are placed in the wrong subcategories (ie cologne and toilet bowl cleaner together, a Covergirl loose powder in a perfume subcategory, etc etc), the categories and subcategories are named weirdly, it’s cluttered and messy looking, my previous favorites have disappeared, and quite frankly it’s not very useful. I’d rather reference the pages that my derm office gave me, and the email with a 126 page safe list, than use this app. My only positive with it is the scan function but I’ve only used it once or twice. I hope that it can’t be worked on and improved.

Please keep working on it

I’m grateful this app exists. So far it has been a little frustrating though. Most of the products I put in the search bar don’t show up or say they haven’t been rated yet. One I scanned and it said it didn’t exist and when I tried to add it, it said the barcode already exists. I appreciate that it shows the list of ingredients and that the unsafe allergen shows up in red. Does the app account for the many different names of a particular chemical? I’m spending so much time trying to figure that out. Pictures would be helpful. In order to add an item you have to scan the barcode, but I no longer have the boxes to many products so am unable to scan.

Rev 2.0 is a major improvement

New rev of app is a major improvement. Product scanning and full ingredient lists are great features that I appreciate to help determine acceptable products to purchase.

The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the category grouping are a little confusing. Some of the personal care is odd and still looking for body sunscreen.

Super helpful app but beware inaccurate links to purchase products

The new app released Sept 2024 has really helpful features, but beware it is buggy in a way that sadly makes it dangerous for anyone with allergies. For example I clicked a link to purchase a product on my safe list, but the link went to a similar product that contained my allergen! I found a few instances of this problem, so I recommend always double checking any item you wish to purchase through other means.
