  • Dead Seal App

This app used to be one of my favorites, every spring, tracking all the sharks and sightings. But this year it is just a collection of photographs of dead seals. They need to either restrict dead seal sightings altogether (because they're not sharks) or create a category when you log a sighting that it is in fact, a dead seal. Until they focus back on actual shark sightings, I'm taking a break.

Thanks for the feedback! In the latest update there is an option to hide all predations from the app. This can be found in the top-left filter button, or in Settings > General. If you have anymore questions or feedback, please don't hesitate to reach out: sharktivity@atlanticwhiteshark.org
  • Update add is a downgrade

I used this app frequently last year. The upgrade is really a downgrade. It no longer gives you the choice to see what’s happening in the last two days, I find myself needing to log out of the app to get back to an original screen, and I’m not sure why you need a sensitivity block. The app is always upgrading too, which tells me there must be a lot of bugs. It would be helpful to know how the “upgrade” is helping shark research more than version one did.

Thanks for the feedback! You can use the time filter button in the top-left to set the timeline to the past two days. We've been updating the app to add features users have been requesting. If you do see a bug however, please email us and we're happy to fix: sharktivity@atlanticwhiteshark.org
  • App of the Summer for Cape Codders

As someone who grew up summering on the Cape, I’ve witnessed the influx of sharks over the last several years. Being able to see shark sightings through this app is so cool! Love the work AWSC is doing in the community and appreciate that the data is publicly available for all of us ocean lovers. Clicking in to different sharks in the area to see their recent sightings and corresponding photos is one of my favorite, unexpected features. I know I’ll be opening this app a lot this summer!

  • Unfavorable changes

I have had this app for a number of years and loved it. I am near cape cod, and the app enabled me to focus on that area. This is no longer the case, I have no option to specify the area to watch for sharks. I guess the app was upgraded, but in my opinion, it is no longer a value to me. I will be deleting…

The app is still very much designed for Cape Cod! Right now there are some sharks we are tracking that show on the map in the Gulf of Mexico, but you can turn those off by using the filter button in the top-left of the map. Additionally when we deploy our real-time detection buoys later this summer, there will be more data for Cape Cod. We can also include an option to setup a default map area when the app launches, which you can set to Cape Cod. If you have any additional feedback, or questions about the upgrades, please email us at: sharktivity@atlanticwhiteshark.org
  • Don’t turn on notifications

Updated app has a lot of nice features.

    Developer Response

Currently we only send alert notifications for sharks in MA. Further controls of notifications will be coming in an update soon.
  • Don’t turn on notifications

Updated app has a lot of nice features. But the notification feature is useless to me. I live near the Massachusetts shore. I don’t need a shark notification if one pops up in the Gulf of Mexico. Need to be able to have notifications by location only

  • Not accurate

Every year I open the app it shows the same sharks in the same places. So I decided to open it on February 1st and it showed the same sharks in the same places

  • Fascinating

A super informative app, with up to the minute notifications, all with great attention to accuracy. Because the sharks are tagged and you know where they are, they become fascinating as opposed to fearsome, and their names are truly hilarious. I’m grateful.
  • Could use improvements…

The push notifications seem to be very hit or miss… I download this app a week or so ago and yesterday was the first time getting notifications. One more today but not all sightings come through, including one from one of our local beaches yesterday. Also would be good to have distance shown in notifications. And on the map would be nice to have some sort of indicator as to the most recent sightings … maybe numbered icons as an option?
