Fretello Guitar Lessons User Reviews

Good...

As an expert guitarist and a not very much expert guitar teacher, I was very curious and interred in this app.

Superb and very promising introduction! (the French language version needs major corrections, but it's kind of cute to read. Like if I heard a strong Canadian accent. ;-)

I did the first exercise twice because I didn't understand it the first time. I agree with other users who said it was weird to follow and understand what the metronome wants. I then wanted to go faster but didn't see how.

I moved to the first improvisation or jamming exercise, which I accept it is boring since it is the first exercise. And then I moved to the second one, which is suppose to be a 16 Bar Blues Rock in C. Man, what is that??!!?? I believe this is wrong, just an incomprehensible bad chord change form that has nothing to do with a standard. I mean... I've been playing guitar professionally for over 25 years + 10 years of apprentice and this is the second exercise shown in an app that promises me to learn guitar? And in the next step, I'm invited to pay yearly for the use of the app? I would like to help you to make your app better so you'd get more subscribers: show the structure of the music you want your student to play with and, while in at, select a standard form for a second exercise, like a 12 Bar Blues. Oh, and the notes suggested on the neck were those of the previous exercise A Minor and do not all fit with C7, F7 & G7. Just saying.

I would really like your app to be a major success. The entire concept is, I believe, in the right direction.

Response from developer

Hey Martien, thanks for your comprehensive feedback. We're always looking for feedback on how to improve our app. If you want to participate, please contact us at support@fretello.com. I'd be happy to jump on a short interview!

Generally ok but latest update....

New update installed on 02OCT2017 has an issue with the training not rendering properly on an iPad Pro. Can’t see half of the Tabs in the screen.

Otherwise a good app the forces you to train on the basics and getting fingering done properly.

Efficient app

App keeps crashing very repitive lessons

Useful app to learn guitar with however it doesn't offer much flexibility in allowing you to choose what to learn nor variety between the exercises

Unsubcribed as the practice sheets were very one dimensional

Response from developer

Hi Jonathan, we fixed the issue you encountered in the meantime in the course of the iOS 11 update, I'm sorry for the inconvenience. We're already working on enhancing the practice sheets by adding riffs, licks and solos from bands. If you have input or want to contribute your feedback, please reach out to us via support@fretello.com. We appreciate your feedback!

Far too expensive for what it is.

First off, if I am paying $10 bucks a month, you gotta be real good and this app falls far below the mark.

Asking me to post my status on Facebook every time I get done practicing is insulting. I don't have Facebook.

The auto tempo feature had me playing scales at 26bpm. That is too slow.

The progression is way too slow. After 2 months we are on the same 3 scales. I'm bored of slowly working up and down the same old scales.

Once you set your week practice goal you can't change it because I guess no one has a change of plans ever?

There is no chord work. The interface is too simplistic for $10 a month. The price should be about $3 total.

Love it :)

I am sorry that many others are giving bad reviews, I quite like the app. It's perfect for beginners who need a place to start 👍🏻

So far so good

I've been away from guitar for two years so this app is a good refresher. Just wondering how I can lower the amount of lessons per week, I currently have it at 7 and it's a little redundant. I'd like to move forward with some different scales.

.

Still at the beginning, not an amazing app but it's okay. Tempo detection is way off, the first tempo detection I was able to do the riff provided at 148 bpm which seemed accurate enough, when I got to the next tempo detection riff, i did that given riff more or less the same speed, but put me at 55 bpm... like what??

Edit: 5 mins after writing this review, on one of the practices it says "Get ready!" at the top and the countdown is stuck at "5" forever. Just a bug I found.

Response from developer

Hi, thanks for reporting the bug. We're already working on a solution.

Good for beginners/warm-up

While it can feel a little slow and repetitive, that makes you focus on perfecting your basic skills rather than pushing yourself forward once you know a chord. Teaches you right away things that irl teachers tell you months into lessons too. Very useful and looking forward to what the developers put in next!

Good for strategic practice

So far, i enjoy practicing with this app. I like the progressive scale practice with different scale patterns that get more complicated as you go. As a music teacher, I see the direction this is going and I love it!

Maybe an introductory video would help explain the rationale and pedagogy behind the app? Also, maybe include some work with chords to give some variety to the exercises?

If the jam at the end of the session is to apply the patterns in soloing, it might be helpful to have the patterns on the jam screen for reference.

Hi James, thank you very much for your feedback. To answer your questions we'd appreciate if you get in touch with us via support@fretello.com. Currently, we started a cooperation with different music teachers to improve the app according to their requirements so your input is highly appreciated! Best regards, Florian

Needs work

Oh man that got frustrating fast. The tempo detector was way off, and I couldn't find a way to change it. I couldn't retry the test, and there didn't appear to be a way to manually set it. I'll be glad to revisit the app once some bugs are worked out. Also, it would be nice to hear the music played to you before the practice begins.
