  • Good Filters But Too Many Prompts

you would expect these days that apps just conform to some sort of basic intuitive workflow but this one seems to have more instances where you get annoyed by pop-ups or have to click on extra menus or go through extra screens to achieve what you want even if it’s just a simply turn a Photo into black-and-white and save it to your camera roll… too many prompts and questions. filters look really cool but I wish the export was in higher quality.

  • Always my first choice

Other photo apps offer filters, and some of them are excellent, but Carbon does monochrome better than any of them. On top of that it offers some excellent analogue ‘dirt’ and other ways to emulate film. If you’re serious about monochrome photography and want excellent results in a few minutes, then this is a must have in your tool kit.

  • Why the change?

I initially loved the app and still do for the fact that it a unique look to my images. The subscription thing kind of anoid me, but most of the useful canvas colors have been replaced with black. Please fix this or I cannot justify continuing my subscription. The frames borders and canvas features have become a staple in my work. I'll gladly continue using and paying as long as the app is improving. Maybe I'm experiencing a bug or glitch, so to the devs look into the canvas colors & square mat option.

  • At last!

You've made it possible to save a JPEG @ 100% resolution. I wrote to you as long ago as three years and received no response.
Hoping it works as it should.
    If so then thanks

Will write another separate review later
  • For B ‘N’ W Fanatics this is it!

Has the best filters for black and white photography…including 35mm physical photo effects like scratches and such. You could use it to edit color photographs too but this is 100% catered to those Black N White lovers just letting you know. 5 stars all the way worth the $20 upgrade for all access. Yes I agree it’s been a minute since the last update and we do need a UI update other than that…it’s still running great on iPhone 12 Pro MAX on iOS 16.1

  • Love the way you can achieve a multidimensional true B/W

I’ve used many black and white effects and it was obvious to me that the red, blue and green in using a basic black and white could highlight or lowlight. I know what makes a good black and white I.e. contrast, shadows etc. What I learned on CARBON was depth. What I mean by this is you have a landscape image that has water trees sky etc. in dimensions and defining the different layers from the back to the front or vice versa in the original image. CARBON creates an image that is so multidimensional with my preselected undertones on the APP making this image for me a true black and white and every shade of gray in between and not by turning off RGB and going to grayscale on other editing pages. I want a real absence of color in my WHITE looking through the leaves, a branch, the reflection, light, contrast, and shadows that if a tiny bird was on a branch in the distance you can see it in various grays and then the final mixture of all colors that make BLACK. CARBON does this for me.

  • Locked out of purchases

I bought into a series of paid filters for this app (black & white and duotone) a few years back and was enjoying them for photo projects. But when I went to use them today I was prompted to join a 20 dollar a year membership to access the filters i had long ago paid for. I never received an email about the change so I won’t be using it anymore (was a nice ap while it worked… sorry to see it and my initial payment go)

  • Unethical business, paid for filters taken away

I’ve been using this app for around 2 years with their black and white collection. I paid for this collection of filters and was happy. Today, I went to use them and it asked me to pay for a subscription to use what I’ve already paid for.

I tried to report the problem in the app and nothing would go through.

I’m upset, I’m being gouged, and what I paid for isn’t working, and I can’t reach any customer service. Not only should this app refund me, this could be a legal matter. Especially if it effects others who are in this scenario.

  • Elegant and effective

Although there are a lot of photo editing apps that do more (I use quite a few), Carbon is one of my favourites. It’s elegant, simple to use, inexpensive and the results are stunning. I use it for all my Black and White work and I love the Canvas feature. Note to the developers - if these features could be used with video too that would be amazing! Thanks for a great app.

  • Simplistic and pushy marketing

I’m a retired professional with decades of experience. Carbon has a glorious UI. Very seductive. I’ve grown lazy and the idea of using presets as a jumping of point on IOS is attractive. Rather like Nik Collection Silver Efex Pro……an idea and then change it and turn it into your own creation.
Hard to know with Carbon…..looks like yet another press the button and apply someone else’s work to yours. Hard to tell with Carbon with it’s intrusive aggressive marketing. Doesn't seem to be any serious editing capability. Too hard to work past all the self congratulatory promos.
I’d pay serious money for a decent app , but I can get far better results from Snapseed, Lightroom and a few other IOS apps.
Five stars for slick high pressure marketing. Two stars because I’m in a good mood.
Marketed differently, and with editing capability, this may be really good. As it is:”all that glitters us not gold”. Now, where is that delete app button.
