Excellent

Been trying to find a email service/platform for a while. Very easy to use with great features and layout of all my emails. Even through I have only been using the app for a couple of weeks, still learning more about it. We do a follow up review

Mostly great, needs some stability tweaks

I mostly love Canary (indeed I’ve bought the Mac and iOS apps for my business and the additional license for my personal Apple account). There are some unusual Face ID glitches if I don’t fully quit the app from time to time (particularly on iOS14, but give that time.) and I can’t wait for it to be a default mail app either (just please allow discounted upgrade to 4.0 if it’s under a year from 3.0 release otherwise it gets expensive)

However the thing I really like is it’s simple to use GPG functionality. I prefer to sign my mail (occasionally encrypting it) and this is so far one of the few iOS clients I’ve found that does this reliable well. Thanks Canary, and please keep up the good work.

My kind of Mail App

The app isn’t perfect. It seems as though there are still lots of features they plan to implement, but depending on your priorities, this could be a great choice. What I live about the app:

1. Read Receipts - this keeps me in the know and helps with anxiety
2. Email Encryption - this wasn’t the easiest to set up and I hope it will become more user-friendly, but with all the cyber attacks and hackers out there, I get peace of mind being able to send sensitive information to my wife knowing my mail is secure
3. I like that I can easily pin my mail and it shows up at the top along with a bunch of other swipe options
4. My favorite part is that it is a one time payment!!! Read receipt features are usually a monthly charge and this works just as well for me. I would never go for a monthly charge again.

Things I think could be better:
1. The design could be a bit more modernized. As I said, it looks like they have plans in the work.
2. Add folder rules so that mail can automatically be moved out of the inbox and stored in a folder based on rules
3. An additional type of encryption where both parties don’t need a key, rather just a password when sending one way.
4. Swipe left in the mail message to go to the next mail message in the inbox.

I don’t usually review apps, but I want this to succeed. There’s a lot of potential here. It’s already an awesome app.

Good email client but lacks good integration with iCal

It’s a good email client but tapping on iCal links to auto create calendar events is a nightmare.
Also the option to move items from junk to inbox is surprisingly lacking.

Could be amazing

At first I was really pleased to have found this app as it seemed to offer everything I wanted in a mobile email client. Adoption of encryption in email has lagged behind that on the web for too long. The app seems well thought out and the UI has a certain polish to it. After using it for a while though I noticed several glitches though. When composing a new message the recipient address would often disappear when selecting the suggested match. When viewing medium to long messages, the view doesn't allow you to scroll to the bottom to read everything. Sometimes a restart would help persuade it to measure the scroll length correctly, sometimes not. There are several functional glitches and support is friendly but doesn't seem too fussed about fixing them. A pity, as with a little more work this could be a fantastic app.

Perfect!

I’ve tried out many email clients over time. I’ve been looking for one which embraces both iOS and macOS platforms in a seamless way. Canary is it!

Everybody has their own way of working, and each of our brains are wired in different ways. So, what seems logical to one individual is not necessarily so to another, but I think Canary have got it cracked, and I take my hat off to them.

I’m still in the trial mode, but I’ve used it robustly for the last couple of weeks, and it’s still not disappointed.

The best mail app on Apple

I have tried everything: Spark, Outlook, Spike, Proton, Default Apple mail etc.

Spark has great UI but I missed encryption and read receipts.

Spike offered everything I wanted for free a year ago but now it has some capping to make you a paid user. I found their pricing to be complicated.

Apple Mail app is what I always fall back until I find something great again. Its main issue is, Apple doesn’t think mail is an important part of our lives and it’s ancient approach will make your inbox flooded with unread messages.

Then comes Canary.

Almost perfect app. I got everything I need from it. Encryption, seen, and a modern intelligent design that helps you cut the clutter. Trust me, within a half an hour of integrating my 5 mail accounts, I could reduce 4000+ unread mails into zero inbox. This is huge and I loved how its smart algorithm finds unimportant mails and helps you archive them.

Mac app has some UI and minor functionality issues. App Menu isn’t much responsive. Plus it needs a little bit refinement everywhere. But under the hood, it is a perfect app.

I am trying it for 30 days, and I will mostly go for Pro. I hope the developers of this good app will try to match the detailed refinement of Spark.

I really wanted to love it

The app is beautifully designed inside and out, and I really wanted to love it. Unfortunately, lack of certain functionality renders it unusable for me. Firstly, there is no way to sort by sender on the mobile or desktop app. This wasn't a deal-breaker, but it would be useful.

More importantly, though, on the mobile app, there is no way to select multiple messages from a list of search results. I was able to do this on the desktop app, but in order to then delete those selected messages, I had to right-click to find the delete option. Strangely, once I deleted those messages, they stubbornly remained in my Canary inbox, even though they had actually been deleted from the server and were gone from my Outlook inbox.

Canary doesn't work for me right now, but I hope it will in the future.

One Bug Is Driving Me Crazy!

I don’t know if this is a bug or a “feature” that I can’t figure out how to turn off. But either way it’s happening with increasing frequency and it’s driving me crazy.

My preferred way to view my inbox is with the “all” view - I use multiple accounts and they are color coded, which is fantastic, and allows me to easily keep up. But for the love of everything.... upwards of 80% of the time when I select a new email, it opens, I’ll glance through, etc. When I go to delete the email using the bottom toolbar, it quickly takes me back to the “all” inbox view and then swipes everything to the right and gets frozen on a screen that is blank, save the Canary logo. And it stays frozen until you force quit the app and restart it. This makes it absolutely impossible to quickly get through multiple emails in a hurry. Developers, please........ I don’t know what this is but please fix it. I gladly paid for Canary 3.0 but I’m a hair away from returning to Apple Mail and never looking back.
