Pretty good

Some nice features and I like the clean UI. I especially like the AI feature and the ability to see a summary of a conversation. Occasionally buggy but not a deal breaker.

For some reason though, it won’t work at all on my work’s wifi network. Only on 5G and everywhere else.

Desperate for money

The recent continuous bleating of the app for users to pay money as the only way to turn off Canary spam that inflicts all emails is a pathetic ploy.

Never works or even connects

Have tried to use this app many many times. Every time I sign into my Gmail account, an alert pops up about enabling IMAP, which I have already done. Nothing that I have tried has fixed it, and I have gone through absolutely all of my Gmail settings. My email address works with every other app, except this one. It’s a shame.

Disappointed

I bought the pro version after using the free app for a day but should have waited longer. While the app is clean and user friendly, it has a lot of bugs. The notification system erroneously and consistently notifies me of new e-mails but when I enter the app, there are no new e-mails. Also, I have to delete e-mail 2-3 times before they are removed. I find this time consuming and quite irritating. I will be switching to another app.

For the most part good

But I have recently encountered two issues:

Firstly when responding to an email in poor reception, the email I sent vanished, it wasn’t in sent mail or drafts. After a few attempts I gave up, only for all three attempts to suddenly appear again and send later 2 hours after being back in good reception.

The 2nd issue relates to formatting, as I use canary for business often emails are sent highlighting various issues or questions, the way I typically receive responses is for the other party to reply to the email by responding to each point in red text. Unfortunately canary strips the red text formatting making the responses difficult to find.

Outstanding

Canary Mail is outstanding; it has dramatically improved, and Read Receipts are brilliant. Previously they wouldn’t work.
Copilot is interesting. I’ve used it for a few emails, but I usually write long hand.
Canary has got it right and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it double in price, it’s worth as it’s outstanding value.

Decent, but for the price missing basic customization options

Been trying Canary out to move away from basic iOS mail app and to be able to use gpg keys to sign and encrypt. Overall not bad but for the price I’m kind of shocked it doesn’t do basic things like pull photos for people from your contacts or allow you to remove that terrible “category” section from the menu. Maybe I need to catch up with the times or something but I don’t need my email to categorize things for me and I’d rather have faster access to the individual mailboxes. I’m also confused about why the signature box feels so much bigger than the text box of the email. I don’t use signatures and you should be able to turn that off and it not even be a text box in the compose section any more. Security or convenience I guess. But I’m just kind of shocked that for the price some of the basic little things that pretty much every other mail app does is missing here. Am I going to pay? No. Why pay for an app that doesn’t do any of the things free app do just for pgp / gpg use on my phone? Canary doesn’t support my old version of OS X and so just to be able to use gpg on my phone doesn’t seem worth the price. Add the features that every other app has and I’m willing to pay.

This App Needs Some Work

I’ve just downloaded Canary Mail, and even though it looks like a really nice app, I honestly feel that there’s something missing. I feel that the emails are too much on top of each other, there definitely needs more spacing between the emails. Before I subscribe to the Pro version, I need to see this change.

Great features, broken UI

App overall works great and has good features. But there are some glaring UI issues, at least in the iOS app
1. The dashboard button is completely missing 2. There’s no easy way to mark an email as done or no longer important, so unneeded threads stay at the top bar
3. When trying to bulk select auto-unimportant there’s no button to confirm the selection, so this option becomes useless.

Also website says pricing is $20 a year for pro but all of a sudden in the app it says I have to pay $35 for an iOS MacOS bundle??? What is this false advertising? Do I have to pay more if I also want to use the windows app as well?

Looks excellent

I have only just found Canary having never quite found the email client that matches my requirement. First impressions are excellent and I have signed up to a Pro subscription on that basis. Clean layout, good functionality and personalisation options and intuitive feel. I may have missed something but the only thing lacking, in my view, is an Undo popup (perhaps for 10 seconds or a user selected time) for Swipe and Send functions. Hence only four stars at this stage. PS It would also be helpful to have a Feedback and Feature Request option within the app.
