  • Failing app

    iPhone SE gen1

This app installed 1-14-2021 will connect with the patch. The measurement are read.
Upon trying to select setting to see log data and change alarm ranges, the app simply disappears.

I cannot access the settings at all.
    The app seems to crash
  • Slow iPhone XR to a crawl. Too many issues!

It has to run consistently to get the readings. Which you expect. But, on my Xr it takes so much of the resources, of the phone, that 50% of the times other apps will not even start!

I have to shut it down to run another app and then restart it after I’m done. Most time I forget to restart the app and there will be X minutes w/o readings. The most was an hour before I noticed it was not running.

The app does NOT work with Apple Health. Hey, it 2020. Get with the times.

The app will not replace the FreeStyle app. You still need it. So now I’m managing two apps!!!

The unit does not attach to the FreeStyle. You have to apply tape to keep it in place.

Plus, the battery does not last two weeks! It last approx 12-13 days.

Not ready for prime time. Will try to get my money back.

  • App issues!

This app would be great IF it would stop crashing everytime I try to calibrate it. I would also LOVE to have an option for “calories” in the food section. Some of us need to gain weight and some need to lose it so being able to keep up with how many calories we’re taking in is beneficial.
  • Either malware or stupid

I purchased the Nightrider device to provide continuous read out of my freestyle libre sensor, to avoid loss of data if I go more than eight hours between readings, and to upload the glucose data to Apple Health

The iPhone app accesses the sensor data OK. more or less. It is a very noisy app. After connecting it complains that the Nightrider battery is low, correcting itself only after a few five minute cycles before it reads correct data. It regularly loses connection to the device, and then regains it five minutes or so later. From time to time it provides urgent alarms every 30 seconds or so, so much so that I had to disable the notifications completely.

At first managed to upload data to Apple Health, which is why I bought the device. But then, after I went for a walk without carrying my phone, it disconnected, and never manage to connect to Apple Health again. Even after multiple resets, repairing, uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I managed to get it to read data from the sensor and displayed on the iPhone, but never again to get it to upload to Apple Health.

I tried to connect it to my watch, which I pretty much always wear, even when I leave my phone behind. But I have not yet succeeded in doing so. I don’t care about seeing my blood sugar or receiving alerts on my wrist since I have controlled my diabetes via diet more or less, but I was hopeful that pairing the device with my watch would avoid these complaints about being disconnected

So far, mediocre software quality, but I could live with it if the Apple Health upload problems were solved.

The scary thing, the thing that makes me think that this might actually be malware/spyware, is that the app insists on being able to read many many metrics from Apple Health. Almost all of the metrics, if not actually all. Why would a device that I use to read my blood sugar need to know my cervical mucus quality (I am male) or my sexual activity, or my biotin levels?

Like I said, either they are stupid, reading much more than they need to, or they are selling your Health data. probably both.

I suspect that my problem reconnecting to apple health is that after a while I denied the LinkBluCon app access to all of my Apple Health data, except for the right to write my blood sugar data. However, even when I later restored them access to all of my Apple Health data in an attempt to reconnect to Apple Health, it still refuses to work.

anyway, they have had access to all of my health data, i.e. have potentially completely invaded my medical privacy. I took that chance in the hope of uploading my blood sugar data to Apple Health. It did not work. I am not at all sure that it is worth working with them to get it to work, certainly not until they fix their privacy implementation. If you value your privacy, I suggest that you not use this app, and possibly not the nightrider device, unless you can find other software that it works with. A further red flag is the password management they provide on their website for affiliates: it gives every indication of them keeping a copy of the password. This is well known to be poor security practice - UNLESS they intend to spy on you.

Like I said, they are either malware/spyware, or not very good programmers, unaware of best practices in security and privacy. Frankly, I am surprised that Apple allows this app in the iPhone and watch app stores.

  • Horrible customer service

I ordered the Night Rider back in April of this year and received it in June. Immediately, the device was having difficulties pairing to my Freestyle Libre. It would pair and once I locked my phone it would unpair, so I would have to keep the app open and running just to keep it paired. After about two days the app began glitching and would close immediately after opening it, until this week (it’s September 12th the day I’m writing this.) I tried to pair my Night Rider with my Libre and it told me “low battery” so I went to replace it with a brand new battery. I did this with three brand new 3v batteries and it just kept telling me “low battery”. I called customer service in hopes that maybe someone could help me. Customer service “Matt Johnson” hung up on me three times after explaining the situation and paying $140+ on the device I would like a refund. “Matt” told me that was not possible, and that the app was crashing: first because of the server and that “so many people were using the app at the same time” and after I explained to him that other people also using the app wouldn’t effect how it ran on my phone, he blamed my phone for the crashing. But I know that that isn’t the issue since I own an iPhone XR. “Matt” hung up on me multiple times and after calling back and asking to speak to a supervisor he informed me that there was no supervisor in, and then blocked my number so I can no longer contact the customer support number: (415) 465-1862.

I placed an order for it after receiving a recommendation from my endocrinologist but this is a horrible device and system along with terrible customer service. I would rate it zero stars if I could, and I will be posting my review and experience onto other platforms. Absolutely ridiculous, do NOT buy and download.

  • Night rider and App.

After being inundated with emails touting the direct to watch connectivity, I bought a Night Rider. After some back and forth about delivery with customer care, I received delivery. Luckily it was received after the software update a few days ago to support the US 14 day sensor. If not, it would not have worked at all. Per customer care, the direct to watch functionality for the US 14 day sensor should be available in a few weeks. Nothing about this is mentioned anywhere in their marketing materials. I only bought this for the direct to watch function. Charging $25 for shipping a $9 priority mail envelope is also obscene.

    Update July 17,2020

Decided to give it another try. The direct to watch functionality works. The app was installed with the complication. I added the complication to my watch face and it works as expected. Then the app pops up on your screen. I have still to find a way to see my watch face on wrist lift or crown press.... the open app is always displayed. It appears to run as an ACTIVITY which on Apple’s software is always displayed with wrist lift on. A crown press to required to get back to your watch fact.... which displays your data via the complication. Dear developers, what am I missing?

This app is such greatly improved. It is good and strongly connection to my NightRider. There is no issues around.
  • Terrible Customer Service

The device is inconsistent. It disconnects from my iPhone 11 very frequently, even if it is next to the Nightrider. When I spoke with customer service in November the representative was very hostile and rude, telling me that I would be wasting my money if I returned the product. I sent them numerous videos of the product disconnecting repeatedly (every 30seconds-1minute). After updates to the app the connectivity issues were mostly resolved and I continued using the product. The device has not been working for me for the past two months. It doesn’t appear as a pairable device anymore, the red light blinks indicating that the device still works—only it doesn’t. When I approached customer service with this new issue I was chatting with a representative for 15-20 minutes troubleshooting and after I told them that none of the steps they had advised me to take had yielded any results they stopped responding to me. I left the chat window open for another 20 minutes with no response from costumer service. Eventually, the session expired. I emailed, they emailed me back all of the same troubleshooting steps that I had already gone through during the chat. I let them know that I had already tried all of these things and that I wanted a replacement, per their policy. They continued asking me the same questions and making the same suggestions on how to resolve the issue. They ignored my requests for a replacement product. After almost 2 weeks of this back forth I started a new chat with customer service and informed them that I would not be engaging in the circular instructions any longer, at this point I’m fed up. Their response to me was to yell at me and tell me that they know more about their product than I do, and that if I wanted to “waste my money on shipping” I could send it to them and they would check the device and replace it if they determine it is defective. The entire experience with this company has been a time consuming nightmare. Beware.

  • High hopes / performance and support lows

While I had high hopes of successfully using the night rider for CGM monitoring with the link blu app, after a few weeks the device stopped working. Support was either non responsive or gave inadequate directions. Of course, the app is useless without a working device, and the remedy to get a functioning device is problematic at best. While I can complain about a battery life half of the sensor battery life, or the difficulty in getting the watch app to work, the worst part is the significant expense for such a cheap and poorly functioning product with terrible support.

  • Just stopped working.

Ok. I too have been really disappointed in the support from ambrosia.

I struggle with night time low blonde sugar with my type 1 diabetes. I am a vet and have purchased the Lybre freestyle sensor out of pocket. It was a HUGE game changer in getting daytime glucose dialed in. However it had no way of letting me know when I was crashing at night. We are talking 30’s and lower.

I came across ambrosia after searching for a system that could trade my glucose “live”. Didn’t hesitate and put it to work right away. Another game changer. With alarms I could set when out of target or when going low at night, I no longer went to bed in fear.

Until a few weeks ago, it started burning through batteries. I was using Duracell and it took a week for ambrosia to tell me I could ONLY use Sony. Yup, it’s true. The formulation of the Sony CR2032 is not the same as others. I did the research. Talked to battery suppliers and they really are different and are used in many medical devices because of their discharge ratings.

This should be right up front. Nothing states that only Sony batteries can be used. AND CR2032 batteries are so common that I could not find a local distributor. One place, a battery only store was baffled that they would use the 2032 in a medical device. It was the ONLY button battery they have to special order. Really?

So. Another week of waiting for my Sony batteries. Yup. Nearly had to have my wife call EMS. Got way below 30 this time. Thank god my wife felt me going into convulsions.

Now I have the batteries. Ambrosia also had me update to lates version of the app. Even sent me an invite to use TestFlight. Latest version would connect but never receive the data from my Lybre.

I’ve deleted, reinstalled and finally started “downgrading” to previous versions. Finally at version 1.1.23.18 I got it to connect and get 1 reading. That’s it. Just one.

Now the reset button will not work. Tried 3 fresh batteries, first two it said were bad. Third one connected briefly and now is disconnected.

Come on folks. You got to provide faster and better support. When I read that other users are having a hell of a time getting support and getting a replacement, I’m thinking you need to recall this thing and get the issues fixed before selling another one of them.

Hey! Some of is really do rely on these devices to keep us safe and healthy. Get it fixed and you’ll have a serious die hard advocate. You got a product that can actually be a life saver.

Still waiting for your support email on next steps, by the way...
