I've had my BluCon Night Rider for about 3 months. Before the 1.1 update, I'd have rated it a 4 -- accurate and reliable, with some UI improvements that were needed.
I've had 1.1 (current version) installed for 2 months, and it is far worse for one reason: it disconnects *constantly*. I cannot rely on it at all.
The accuracy is still very good --though I've noticed it tends to understate hyperglycemic readings (e.g. it will read 175 when my blood glucose monitor is at 280). But my levels are usually on-target and this app's readings are generally very close to accurate.
But OH MY GOD THE DISCONNECTS. I've made a list (not all-inclusive) of when it will typically disconnect:
- When I get out of my car
- When I get into my car
- When I'm at my desk, being perfectly still
- When I'm walking
- When I'm not walking
- When I look at it the wrong way
- Sometimes for no reason
I'm looking forward to getting an Android phone, because I understand that (unlike iOS) there are alternative apps that perform better.
My advice to Ambrosia Systems is to stick to making the hardware (which is very good and innovative), and open up the source so that experiences iOS software developers can write competing apps for it.
