After the first 3 fills, What’s the point?
I have had the app since last year, and whilst it works as expected, I have encountered the following negatives that lead me to ask “what’s the point?”
1. Taking me to the nearest Ampol and then discovering that their system is down so cannot use the app.
2. Taking me to the nearest Ampol & they don’t even have the system to allow using the app. This seems to be the majority of stations.
3. Having to wait for the payment to process and then show the attendant that I’ve paid (usually by standing in front of my car, holding up my phone) before I drive off, for fear that they’ll think they just had a drive-off (given how common an occurrence drive-off’s are now).
4. No discounts once the first three have been used (only the occasional extra one when inviting friends to get the app). I get discounts from other suppliers for every visit because I have particular rewards memberships, and it adds up to a significant discount with the quantity of litres I purchase.
I use a fuel price app to tell me which supplier has the cheapest fuel nearest to me, since the Ampol app doesn’t tell me that information.
I work out where I will go according to the price I will pay (taking into account any discounts).
I will gladly walk in to talk to the staff member (also ensuring that they keep their job) just to get several dollars discount per tank, so again I ask,
what is the point of the Ampol app?

Used to be quite handy, no longer works
Unable to use the app, the only information that shows is the location of the petrol stations. It used to be quite handy, especially for parents, with the ability to stay in the car instead of undo sit belts, etc. It’s been more than weeks the app doesn’t work to pay. Ampol is not the cheapest petrol available, the app was one of the things I didn’t mind paying the extra few dollars for petrol due to the convinces. Quite disappointed that this hasn’t been fixed.

Needs improvement
Basically better than other fuel card apps I use, however had occasions when app unnecessarily enforce a new login when ordinarily it's just tied to apple security. Seems to happen when app received patches, then delays to login after refuelling cause payment not to work and i end up going to counter. Also unsure if app is available at unmanned station at Roclea when all signage directs people to use a single paystation (even though each pump has a card reader) - can someone please examine the 'user stories' between options for payment!!

Beyond useless
Requiring a login through a service that doesn’t support Sign In with Apple this long after iOS 14 has been available is borderline criminal. Takes a nightmarish amount of work to get it working. Obviously built without care and love by one of the big 4 consulting firms that simply punched it out and doesn’t maintain it. Joke of an app and Ampol should be ashamed of themselves.
Want to make it too? Don’t require a login and let me just choose my pump and pay with Apple Pay. Stop stealing my data you ghouls.

Hardly works since change from Caltex
Since the changeover to Ampol I’ve had little luck with transactions where I can pay using the app. The app recognises my location and my pump number and the amount is always correct but it usually gives me ‘payment unsuccessful pay in store’. I usually give it another It and it says pump has not been used. This is happening more often than not and it seems that whatever changes were made going away from Caltex have broken something. No my phone is not to blame as it is a 1 year old phone and update is latest version. Very useful feature in Covid times and frustrating to be unable to use it.

Good app, but room for improvement
I appreciate the app and the convenience it provides. Really simple to use and get set up. My only trouble is that you cannot link an NRMA membership to the app in order to get the benefit at some Ampol/Caltex service stations. If this could be added it would be great, until then though I have to go in and pay the cashier a visit

More than one Ampol card?
This is a great app. Would be even better if the ability to pay via the app was available at more locations.
The only issue I have with the app is it only lets you add one Ampol card. We have one card for each of our 2 cars and because it’s a novated lease I need to make sure I use the correct card. Would be great if I could have both cards added in the app as I can currently only use the app with one vehicle.

Fanfreakintastic!!!
This app is the best thing ever created!! You pull up, fill up, pay and leave. I found this to be a lifesaver as a mum too, no more worrying about getting bubs in or out of the car to pay or worried about whether to leave him in the car if he’s asleep. This is the best app ever for mums and dads, just everybody. I love it!!!

App keeps bouncing me out
Downloaded the app; linked my rewards card, got my 3 x 6c off vouchers. Was all set to use the app. That was the first day. Woke up the next day and clicked into the app and strangely was not logged in. That’s fine, log in again but no matter what I do, I can’t log back in. Keeps bouncing me back to the landing screen where it asks me to sign up or logged in. Have tried everything - have reset the phone, used wifi and 4G, reset the password, but nothing works. Once in a while, when I try to log in, for a split second it shows I’ve logged in but then quickly bounces me back to the “sign up or log in screen”. Help!

Great app, easy to use. Only one gripe.
I love this idea and the few times I’ve used it now it works perfectly, as intended. In these current times of needing to social distance though, I feel as though for me there’s one thing that the app lacks. It needs integration to load your NRMA discount in so you don’t need to go in store, unless you’re also purchasing something else other than fuel. Other than that, love the app! Hope to see NRMA discounts added in to a future update very soon!
