  • Great app for a one time use

I have had this app for the last two years and it has only worked great the initial first time I downloaded it. Now every time I open it it says downloading erecords for 5 minutes or more and btw resets that time frame if your phone screen turns off because the data retrieval takes FOREVER. I have removed/uninstalled the app and re-installed it and still the same process occurs when trying to open and use it!

Florida fish and game’s app is 100x better than this app. WDFW please……please you could do way better than this!

    Developer Response

Hello, Thank you for providing your feedback. I am happy to share that we released a complete rewrite of the app in April. This new build addresses the issues you encountered with the app taking so long to sync and needing to sync every time you open it. Among several improvements, with the new version, the files are much smaller and load more quickly, and there is a background sync process that will run daily as long as you don't force-quit the app. Please install it and let us know what you think. Best, Jake
  • Helpful but slooooow

This app is an absolute necessity given how often the regulations change. That said, because of these frequent changes, the requires an update almost every time I open it. This process can take anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes on fast internet. And during this time I had to be looking at my phone and tapping the screen every so often so it doesn’t go to sleep, otherwise I’ll have to restart the whole process.

My phone can stream HD video no problem so I cannot for the life of me understand why this app takes so long to update the regulations.
  • Useless

Every time you open the app it spends five minutes downloading new regulations and then another five “merging” them. One of these operations fails about half the time. Until both are done you can’t use the app. There seems to be no concept of caching the regs, only getting diffs for the area you are in, rather than those for 800 lakes when all you want to know is if you can keep chinook or not. By the time the regs are downloaded your fish is dead.

This app could be so good and so useful if it cached the regs and was faster but for all the years it’s been out, it has never been improved and remains completely useless.
  • Buggy with regard to updates

This app would be really helpful and informative, but it never seems to update properly. I have tried deleting it and reinstalling 2-3 times this season and it inevitably get stalled in a loop either downloading the ereg updates or more commonly merging those updates with the local database. As such, the interactive map feature (the most powerful part of the app) is unusable. It would be great if this could be fixed, or failing that, introduce a text-based search function for finding a given body of water.
  • Regulation database poorly designed

Pretty much every time you start the app, it syncs with the server to see if there have been changes in the regs, then downloads the changes and merges them into the app’s copy on the mobile device. Only then can you start using the app. On my device, even with a fast connection (gigabit), this process takes around three minutes. And it happens pretty much every time I start the app. You could easily download the whole database from scratch in a fraction of this time. Makes the app darn near useless.
  • I wish I had this in Alaska and Oregon

I don’t typically write reviews but this app is just too awesome! So much easier and convenient than flipping through the regs book (although I keep one handy just in case). Everything I need to make sure I am within the regs on every fishing/crabbing trip! One thing I have had trouble with is the shellfish beaches. I don’t know if it is user error or a bug in the app but it won’t open for some reason. Other than that, this app is absolute gold! Thank you sooooo much!
  • Decent app when it’s working

Been using this almost since it’s conception.
It’s a great app until it isn’t. Updates and merging database info takes to long and sometimes spins indefinitely.
It would be great to see the latest e regs on the main pop up window for the specific marine areas where things have changed instead of having to check the e regs tab specifically.
It’s great being able to see exactly where the boundaries are for all the marine areas as well, that part seems to work fine.
I hope it’ll continue to become more user friendly.
  • App Unable to Merge Updates

App won’t merge updates on iPhone 10 anymore. I have uninstalled and reinstalled repeatedly. I have been using this app for years and it’s always slow to load updates (which seem to update every few days)…. but for the last few months I haven’t been able to use the app. Frustrating and I’m losing interest. Please fix
  • App doesn’t work anymore

Have tried to use the app on 5 occasions over the course of this week and it has gotten stuck in ereg update mode every time. None of the reg data is available on the map. Bodies of water don’t appear. I would be extremely frustrated if I were on or headed to water and this was happening. Tried to reboot phone, uninstall and reinstall app, use wifi vs cell data. None of that helped.
  • Not optimized!

3+ minutes to merge into the local database? Are you kidding me? As an iPhone user I quickly realize that developers did a very poor job in terms of the optimization.. the app is meant to be helpful, but it’s not since it can’t update regulations normally.. I’ll revise my rating again once the issue is fixed. Before then, I’ll be honest it’s a piece of garbage that’s trying to update the data but almost never does.
