Description of Hero

Goodbye pill box, hello Hero: the new way to manage your meds! Hero is the first end-to-end medication management service that liberates caregivers and loved ones from sorting pills, remembering doses, tracking refills, and more. The Hero mobile app is a virtual med management assistant designed to schedule and track even the most complex regimen, manage a loved one’s meds remotely, receive missed-dose and refill notifications, and get personalized insights on medication adherence habits. Connected to Hero’s smart dispenser –– an award-winning device that automatically sorts and dispenses up to a 90-day supply of 10 different medications –– the app helps manage every pill stored in your dispenser, plus up to 10 additional meds outside of your device. Whether you’re caring for a loved one or managing your own meds, Hero’s app brings peace of mind to the whole family, with access to: - Alerts if a dose was missed or if any medications are running low - Unlimited adjustments to your medication schedule at any time - Real-time adherence tracking with personalized insights - Safety and security monitoring for your Hero smart dispenser, including passcodes, daily pill limits, etc. - And more! Reviews of Hero

  • Good device; not so good app

The hero device is great for scheduled meds. It’s helped me manage meds for 2 people. But it doesn’t work that great for “as needed” meds, and the app is lacking critical features that might make me return the devices soon. Here’s the details:
There’s a lot of configurations to dispense multiple doses per day and multiple pills for scheduled doses. But “as needed” PRN meds can’t be controlled well. You can restrict the quantity they can take in a day, and require a passcode to get access to it. But a lot of meds have a time window ( 1 every 6 hours up to 4 times a day etc). The app doesn’t allow you to put the time restriction in to prevent taking meds too soon. You can only restrict it to 4 per day, but they could dispense all 4 at once if they want. It should be configurable to only allow 1 pill to be dispensed every 6 hours, but if us not.

Another BIG limitation of the app is that there is no way to get the historical data out. A big reason for using this is to track which pills are being taken when (especially with pRNs like pain meds). But hero said you can’t extract the data, nor can their admins extract it and email it either. So there is no way to get to your data. This is a HUGE problem. Hero, you need to add this feature asap!!
  • Be aware you have to pay $30-$45/month indefinitely to use it.

Pros- has helped me to consistently take my medication. The update where you could dispense from your phone was much needed and made it better.

Cons- loud, very noisy when dispensing. Slow, seems to take a very long time to dispense even 1 pill. The machine is pretty large. You’ll need some space for it to be.

The worst part really is the monthly subscription cost. $30 a month (that’s with a 2-year commitment, it’s more if you do shorter-term) which is a lot for essentially a fancy remote. You can’t use the machine unless you pay. I understand that price for like the first year to pay for the machine, but after a year or so, loyal customers should pay a reduced price. $30-$45 a month to use it is, in my opinion price gouging. If you want a medication tracker/reminder, there are free apps out there.

  • Great Machine!

I’ve been using My Hero for Quite a few years now and it’s filled to the max, ten medications. And it’s getting to the point where I’m going to need to order a second one. Thankfully I’m “Grandfathered” in at the price that I originally paid for when I first purchased the device (I know I don’t really own it), but even what I’ll have to pay for a second one will be well worth it!! I could never keep track of all these meds and when I have to take them had it not been for my Hero!

As a 67-year-old guy with a ton of maladies, I certainly need someone to watch over me when it comes to making sure I take my pills on time. Left to my own devices I’d be in a world of hurt.

    Thank You Hero!!
