Wonderful/Perfect device in carving for elderly

My 100 year old mother who was able to stay in her own home and for the most part was able to take care of herself starting having issues with her medication due to short term memory issues. She would forget what day it was and could not remember if she had taken her medicine or not. Often time double or triple taking her meds. We had the weekly daily trays, calendars and other reminders but it was not working. The Hero was a godsend. It took a tremendous load off my plate. I could monitor and and even dispense remotely if needed. It was so easy for her to use and prevented any chance of double taking and also notified me if she missed a dose. The app is easy to use and too many excellent features to cover in this review. Monitoring the actual pill count in the unit is amazing. The operation was flawless in the 9 months that we used it. I have told everyone who will listen about this great machine and service includeing family, friends and our doctors and nurses. The help line was quick and profession the few times I needed them to answer a question. When we no longer needed the unit the return was quick and simple. I have zero hesitation in recommending this to anyone needing help with med distribution. Thank you HERO, you really were our hero to our family. Lou Jones, Missouri

Good device; not so good app

The hero device is great for scheduled meds. It’s helped me manage meds for 2 people. But it doesn’t work that great for “as needed” meds, and the app is lacking critical features that might make me return the devices soon. Here’s the details:
There’s a lot of configurations to dispense multiple doses per day and multiple pills for scheduled doses. But “as needed” PRN meds can’t be controlled well. You can restrict the quantity they can take in a day, and require a passcode to get access to it. But a lot of meds have a time window ( 1 every 6 hours up to 4 times a day etc). The app doesn’t allow you to put the time restriction in to prevent taking meds too soon. You can only restrict it to 4 per day, but they could dispense all 4 at once if they want. It should be configurable to only allow 1 pill to be dispensed every 6 hours, but if us not.

Another BIG limitation of the app is that there is no way to get the historical data out. A big reason for using this is to track which pills are being taken when (especially with pRNs like pain meds). But hero said you can’t extract the data, nor can their admins extract it and email it either. So there is no way to get to your data. This is a HUGE problem. Hero, you need to add this feature asap!!

Thank you so much for your feedback. We're always making improvements to the app experience, and we will definitely take your comments into account as we continue to roll out new updates!

Be aware you have to pay $30-$45/month indefinitely to use it.

Pros- has helped me to consistently take my medication. The update where you could dispense from your phone was much needed and made it better.

Cons- loud, very noisy when dispensing. Slow, seems to take a very long time to dispense even 1 pill. The machine is pretty large. You’ll need some space for it to be.

The worst part really is the monthly subscription cost. $30 a month (that’s with a 2-year commitment, it’s more if you do shorter-term) which is a lot for essentially a fancy remote. You can’t use the machine unless you pay. I understand that price for like the first year to pay for the machine, but after a year or so, loyal customers should pay a reduced price. $30-$45 a month to use it is, in my opinion price gouging. If you want a medication tracker/reminder, there are free apps out there.

Great Machine!

I’ve been using My Hero for Quite a few years now and it’s filled to the max, ten medications. And it’s getting to the point where I’m going to need to order a second one. Thankfully I’m “Grandfathered” in at the price that I originally paid for when I first purchased the device (I know I don’t really own it), but even what I’ll have to pay for a second one will be well worth it!! I could never keep track of all these meds and when I have to take them had it not been for my Hero!

As a 67-year-old guy with a ton of maladies, I certainly need someone to watch over me when it comes to making sure I take my pills on time. Left to my own devices I’d be in a world of hurt.

Thank You Hero!!

Haven’t missed any doses

I was a little bit apprehensive when I first ordered hero, however, I decided to give it a try. Although it is expensive for someone on a fixed budget, it’s worth its weight in gold. I have bipolar disorder, ADHD, depression, anxiety, I take several over-the-counter medication‘s, as well. Hence, a ton of medications several times a day.

Originally, I was putting my medication into several “by the month” bill, organizers by my medication, all at different refill dates and I was having to refill the organizers several times a month. I ended up missing medication and doses, and it was a complete mess. HERO has fixed this for me. Honestly, it’s amazing. I haven’t missed a “correct” dose yet. It’s a little bit loud but it’s worth it.

Highly recommend the extra expense for this awesome gadget.

I am 100% perfect with my meds and that’s great!

This dispenser keeps me so on track every day and just never forget any meds and I just love that. I love not having to fill the weekly am/pm pill boxes or little packets, that just got so tiresome and this is so easy. I get plenty of notification both from the Hero and my pharmacy when it’s close to time for a refill that I’m rarely pushing it too close to refill date on any med… so it really is a great and convenient little machine. Downsides are that it’s a bit loud and it’s slow but that will improve with each generation of the machine I’m sure as this company grows which I really hope it does. I give it 5 stars and highly recommend.

Great if you can already self-manage

This device is for those who can manage their medications but have money to spend for this convenience. My mom has gradually had issues so that she can no longer fully manage medications efficiently. I have done so much computer work and programming that I can't understand why this device can't do simple things like spacing on-demand doses including time-spacing with other medications, along with allowing the menus to be locked and managed by an admin. I would prefer having a choice between a two and three-tier system for administration. Currently this system only has the user (patient) and caregivers but I feel it should allow the ability for someone to be an admin for a loved one and manage their caregivers. Currently I am required to add and delete a new "schedule" every day to ensure there is no compression nor overlap of drugs. My sister got this and I still use this so I can sleep at night but honestly I can't wait to get my mom professional pill management.

Life saver!

We ordered the HERO for my mom who started having trouble with both what pills to take and when due to the onset of Alzheimer’s. Even though we filled and maintained the meds in the device, it was easy for her to use and get the correct meds when due. It gave her about an extra 18 months of independence. It also gave us BIG peace of mind know she was taking the proper meds as prescribed. And we could monitor and know if she was late to dispense or even missed a dose. HIGHLY recommended to anyone who has multiple medications that have to be taken at different times, even if you don’t have memory or cognitive issues. Oh yeah, and the monthly cost was definitely affordable and well worth the peace of mind. We would use it again in a heartbeat!

Hero is a life saver

We started using the Hero device for my mom‘s medication, and we both love it! I was finding my mom was having a difficult time managing her medication‘s and was over medicating herself with her pain medication. Once we started using the Hero machine we were able to regulate her medication‘s and get her back on track. Now every time she has a friend come over and visit, she takes them over to the Hero machine so that she can show them the machine! I was recently married and no longer live with my mom, but my brother does, but I am still able to monitor the medication’s and the machine. I highly recommend the Hero device. a lot of medication’s to keep track of, it really works great!

The Best Device and Great Customer Service

We used the HERO pill dispenser and phone app for two years to assist our family member with Alzheimer’s. She had an apartment in assisted living and wanted to stay as independent as possible. The HERO device was wonderful. We could store 90 days or more of 9 different medications and supplements and receive notifications on our cell phones when medications were taken and when they needed to be refilled. The family member has hearing loss and we were able to set the reminder tone to a level she could hear.
The phone app is great. Showing the amount of each medication in the unit and tracking when they were taken. It’s easy to use and very helpful.
When there was a power outage or any other issue, HERO customer service was always available to help, 24 hours a day.
I would highly recommend this device
