Love the Card, Hate the App
I’ve had this card since 2013, love it and i appreciate the new updated card design, but the app needs work. It’s simple and straight to the point but seems like the app is outdated and should take on the design and functionality of most major credit card companies.

Many flaws
The app does its job, but it has the potential to be better. For some reason, if I open the app while listening to music, it automatically pauses the music. Why? Unless the app is gonna sing me my balance I don’t get why it interferes with a music app. You can’t schedule more than two payments in a week, and that includes payments made outside the app, which makes no sense to me. I should be able to schedule as many payments as my balance can afford. Last but not least, I should be able to redeem the gift cards in the app… but no, you have to wait for an email, and then add the card to your wallet and ensure it’s used before 90 days. Needs work.

Addition of accumulated gift cards maybe?
I saw somebody else mention it and I was going to as well at some point. If the developers could put in a extra section on the rewards tab for accumulated gift cards, I think that would be an excellent addition to the app. as well as an opting out slide for limiting the spam in emails with irrelevant notifications, and unwarranted/unasked for advertising - but I suppose if it’s in the terms and conditions…theeeen…. Chill out with all the emails. People only wanna know when they actually benefit.

Do not get the card!
I’ve been locked out of my account for months. Everytime I call to get told my account is locked and that I need to make a payment which I tried to do. The account never got unlocked and I could not make my payments. I ended up EASing and I called to continue to try pay and get my account unlocked. Now to as well updat my address. I kept getting told there was nothing they could do till I made a payment. which I was trying to do. Now they sent my account to collections. Do not recommend!

Outdated and not maintained
Most every-other credit card companies put the rewards where you can use them easily. Either by paying on the balance or through the app. Not this one, they send you an email that may or may not go into your spam filter because it is worded like most scam bot emails. The card they send you in the email is a 3 step process to even see it, that is IF the store you are in is able to get a signal for you to get the email. (Good luck OCONUS) Also, they say you have 3 months to use it, but when they issue it in the middle of the month, you only have 2 months to actually use it. This outdated “rewards” system only benefits them because so many people can’t use it and Military Star gets to keep that money.
Based on the previous reviews, this will likely not do anything but make me feel better about getting the word out.

Thank you for your service
Updated the app today because it had a message which prevented me from using the app unless I updated. So, I downloaded the update and now the app crashes back to home screen whenever I attempt to use it. Every. Single. Time. It’s dead to me and I’ve uninstalled it.
Also, when the app still functioned for me, I would’ve enjoyed having the rewards gift cards somehow implemented through use of the app instead of being emailed.

Gift Cards
I love the reward system for every 2,000 pts you get a $20 gift card. Instead of opening up the app to claim them, you have to filter the +500 emails before they expire after 3 months. I wish there was a way to access them through the app for convenience of adding to apple wallet or view a print out. Another issue with the app itself is if you don’t claim your rewards ($20 gift) they still display how much money you’ve earned but you still can’t claim them. Please fix the reward system.

No option to view scheduled payments
I scheduled a payment for every two weeks because I need to ensure that this card is paid off. I am active duty, and MilStar will notify my actual chain of command if I miss a payment (thanks guys).
The issue comes in when I get paid on the 1st and 15th, and don’t get charged on those days. Numerous times the payments have come out several days early. It becomes easy to lose track of when the payment was scheduled.
The website has the option to change scheduled payments, but when I look for that option in the app, after a payment has gone through I get a message stating that only one payment can go through per week.
I’m not trying to pay you again, I’m trying to reschedule my payments so that I can avoid overdraft fees in my checking account.
This app seems like it’s making improvements but at this point it makes more sense to use the web browser as it somehow has more functionality.

More about card then app
I’ve had a zero balance on the card for a long time, years. I recently made a large purchase and paid of 2/3 of the price immediately and planned to pay off the rest later in the month before the balance was due. 3 days after the payment I made on the app a reoccurring payment that I had set up a couple of years ago also went through which gave me a credit on the account of several hundred dollars. No notification was sent to my email about this reoccurring payment before or after the payment went through. I just noticed when I checked my bank account balance a few days later.
Why didn’t the app remind me of an out dated reoccurring payment and why didn’t it just take out enough to make the account a zero balance? This card and app is so outdated I will no longer use.
I called and requested a refund and will now have to wait a couple of weeks (7-10 plus mail time) to get my money back which I didn’t even owe them. The lady helping from customer service was very nice but this credit card system and all is a mess. I ended up just cancelling the card on the same call because of the inconvenient situation the outdated system put me in.
