I was given this for my birthday. When I opened the shipping box and saw the name, I thought it was something that displayed the cosmos on the ceiling (ouch! My neck!). But it was better. It is extremely easy to set up and use, although something of a ‘rabbit hole’ for the owner—where do you stop adding, captioning, editing, grouping into albums, all of which are very easy with Skylight. Easy, too, to invite others to share photos. It has very good resolution, is well designed and programmed, and really is a fine device for sharing photos with anyone who has one of these. Support is excellent, prompt, and effective. The app is free unless one wishes the additional capability of captions, albums, and videos. Everything seems to work effortlessly and impressively.
I received my skylight as a gift from my family. It is a fascinating, fun device. I enjoy looking at all my family photos of joyous occasions, birthdays, holidays, school events, their travel excursions, also my friends and the special times we have spent together. It gives me constant joy, laughs as I recall all the memories. I believe it is one of the best gifts I have ever received, I truly appreciate having it and I watch it everyday. Also, the support process is outstanding, professional and reliable, I have used it with great results. I recommend buying the skylight frame for anyone, it is a wonderful design and delight. We use Skylight solely for the calendar function. My husband has ADHD so the calendar display for our kitchen countertop is hugely helpful in our household. That being said, the app has a lot of room for improvement. Sometimes, I’ll go through all the steps to enter a new event and click save, and it disappears into the ether and never appears on the calendar. Also more recently, the dials for date and time selection have gone blank. You can still spin the dials but you can’t actually see them so it’s nearly impossible to input the dates and times. Please fix this as it’s basically unusable right now.
Also I wish we could add calendar events via the website and/or via the display itself, not just the app.
I have now bought 2 of these frames. First one for my mom who is suffering from dementia and wanted to provide photos from the past to the present to help her remember faces. She loves watching the frame as the photos change. Also this allows the family to provide her with their photos also. My husband and I travel the US full time and I wanted something that I could put all our photos on. Did have a couple of issues when adding the second frame to my account, but Customer service has been excellent in helping to work through these.
I have never written a review on anything. I always check the not now. This product however…. Honey and I bought 2. One for his parents and one for mine. We had them sitting out on the counter so the kids (all teenagers) could start sending pictures. We have had the best time sharing photos from special moments. Now we need one for our house. I know we can send pictures through text. But when family is here we try to put phones down, so it’s really nice to watch the pictures and share with others that come over. You won’t be disappointed!!
My parents are 85/80 - we try to send pictures to my Dads phone, but they don’t always get to my Mom 🙃. This is going to be a special Christmas gift for them. We sent the link to nieces, nephews, cousins, friends. Everyone is filling up the frame so that when they open it Christmas morning they will have sweet memories. The key will be to keep sending new pictures. The pictures do look a little fuzzy on the frame - maybe the quality of the photo sent? Not sure if that will improve but for now we are giving 5 stars.
My parents had one of the original skylight frames. It was a joy for my mom! Everytime a new picture came on she sat there looking at them for a while. My mom has dementia. So this has been perfect for her. Unfortunately she dropped her frame and it was damaged beyond repair. So I just bought them a new one for Christmas in hopes I could use their old sign on and get their old pictures back. Well it was so easy to set up! New frame is all set. Old pictures are back on and we can all start adding new ones. I have the app on my phone for now and it’s so easy to use that I’m sure I can set it up for my dad to use too!
Like many others’ situation, we got the Skylight to easily share photos with my Mom from afar because traveling to see her is not easy. Great way to stay connected, and she loves having fresh content show up without her having to do anything. The concept is nice. The app thus far works fairly well but needs enhancements. First of all, one cannot really (in our experience) load anywhere near 50 photos at a time from the app; uploads choke or become crawlingly slow for batches larger than 5-6 photos. While the “progress bar” concept for each photo as it’s uploading is nice, it’s also deceptive because it is hard to tell when each photo is actually complete. (A 99% bar looks just like a 100% done bar, but it’s not DONE.) A small check or tick mark as each photo completes would help. It’s also frankly annoying to bait the user with features such as “say something about this photo” - features that take up a substantial fraction of the screen viewing area, when it would be nice to just see the actual PHOTOS a little larger - only to redirect the user to the Skylight Plus subscription screen when those “extras” are clicked. I’d prefer that the service just be clear about what is a “premium” vs. a standard feature, design cleanly around each set of capabilities, and not try to constantly slam users into paying more. Not everyone wants or need the Plus features.
I love this Skylight frame and app. My husband and I received this as a birthday gift earlier this year from our daughter and son in law. This has been such an enjoyable gift. Easy to set up and use. Our kids and grandkids send us photos all the time. Great way to keep track of how they are doing and to watch those grandkids grow. Whether they are near or far it is so nice to keep current and connected with our family. Great gift. We love it.
One side note- we would like to have a longer cord. I’ve researched this and they don’t sell any that are longer. This is a small negative for us. Our connections are limited.
I am really liking the frame. So far easy enough to send pictures. Why a 4 rating? The words ‘tap to see new photo’ are emblazoned on the bottom of the screen. They do not go away. I have read all FAQ and cannot see that it can be changed. I have also not been able to find how many photos and videos it will hold. I purchased the cloud storage so I am sure it will be a lot. It was also initially difficult to get signed in. Took me a couple of days to get it working. The email needed to open in the app at first just wouldn’t work. It is absolutely worth it. I say get it and enjoy it! I am. Just a few kinks to be prepared for.
