  • Bring back old transactions list design

Please bring back the old transactions list design where the content scrolls. In the latest update there is a sticky portion of the page that takes up more than 60% of the phone screen and the transactions are only visible in the tiniest area. It’s a Transactions page and the transactions are not very visible. The design is awful now and is not functional.
Other than that, I have been using this app less than a year and I do like it. I really appreciate that there is a desktop experience that is beautiful and quite functional. I think that is where Simplifi shines. The phone app is decent but a little buggy. Besides the above issue, transactions also appear out of order instead of newest at the top. I find the categorizing of transactions is nice and simple. I wish there was a way to view transactions by tags, like you can on desktop.
I used to use mint and switched over to Simplifi because of the beautiful UI design. It’s more pleasant to look at and use overall.
PLEASE make an iPad app. This has been promised for years, going off of what has been mentioned on the Simplifi forums.
This is not a cheap app and even free finance apps offer an iPad experience.

We agreed that the prior transaction page experience was more ideal. If you update to the latest version you should see the sticky portion was removed and hopefully some of the bugs you mentioned were also taken care of. Your idea of filtering by tags is a great idea we may be able to explore. For your transactions appearing out of order, I'd recommend contacting our customer support team through the in-app Help Center as they'd be able to assist. Hope you enjoy the update to the transaction page. — Jonas @Simplifi
  • Crappy for now

I’ve been using this app for a couple of years. It mesmerizes me they cannot get their unmentionable together. If you like to enter transactions by hand, this will be exercise in frustration. Or masochism. The latest interface overhaul should send the designer packing, but they probably got a bonus instead. The devs should be swapped too. Now there’s no popping up window where you can enter the sum right away. The font, or rather scale and the overall fill is… compact? Is that the word? Who did this atrocity I wonder? Oh, and the latest update fried the links between payees and categories apparently. Now, when I enter payee I have to enter the category again. And the list goes on and on. It’s always like that. Sometimes you can try to reinstall, relogin, etc. But honestly why bother? It feels like an app hacked by a bunch of pretty low talent people sitting in some basement and sour at the management they have to write this. Oh wait, is this an intern playground? I guessed it, right? I’m very close to looking for something else. Just hope this app can at least do import/export. I suspect there’re bugs there too.

We appreciate your business and are sorry for the issues you've been experiencing. Functionally it sounds like the main issue you're having is around payees and categories? If you haven't yet, I'd strongly recommend using the Help Center within the app to start a chat or request a phone call so our live support can help diagnose and resolve the issue for you. — Jonas @Simplifi
  • So much latency!!!

There was a time when I loved this app. I used it daily for budgeting multiple accounts. But over the last year the performance has degraded to the point that it is unusable. The lag between screens is often 6-8 seconds or more. You have to click multiple times for the app to respond to a command. It will hourglass for 20-30 seconds to load the next page of transactions.

And before the developer responds and suggests that it’s a problem with my device, this is the only app on my phone that I’m having this issue with, so it’s not a device problem. Unfortunately, I have to consider using other applications to fulfill my budgeting needs.

  • Love the app! But sooo slow.

The app is great and has improved a lot in the past year, but wowza it’s slow. Seems like the web team gets all the funding, and the app is an afterthought.

Every action you take has to get saved first before it updates, whereas it seems the website caches locally and then reverts if something fails. Also, buttons don’t work while it’s loading, but the buttons don’t tell you that.
The transactions list loads a list of about 50 it seems, but you can’t load any earlier than that.
If you want to use simplifi, use the website, and then use the app if you need to change a single transaction or want to look at your spending plan.

  • Just…wow. This is so bad.

This app and service is such a joke.
This app in particular is sooooo useless. You can’t change half of the settings (like notifications - seriously? Why do you have the mobile notifications listed there if i can’t change them?!?) you can’t upload your Apple Card transactions to it - you know, the only place I can download them, and you can’t be bothered to let me upload them to your service?
And that’s before the inconsistencies that the actual service has - it will still randomly just not show transactions from my bank account, but it will show the proper balance, so I know it is connected.
Their customer service is just that - lip service. they are nice, but if they can’t fix your problem by reading from a script, they will tell you too bad, or say that they will “pass it on to their developers” which means nothing will happen. I have had issues with this service for over a year, and they still haven’t fixed the original bug I contacted them about!

  • Great idea with extremely buggy execution

Conceptually, Simplifi is a great app. I love the watchlist feature, the spending plan is really useful, the way it anticipates income is great; overall, it’s helped me save a ton of money. Functionally, the desktop website is pretty good. The app, however, is almost unusable. Sometimes it just decides to erase all of my income, other times it tells me that I haven’t contributed anything to my spending plan, and it usually takes about 1-2 minutes to update and register any changes that I’ve made, new transactions, etc. The fact that I still use it says something about how great the idea behind Simplifi is, because the app’s functionality is unredeemably bad. It feels like Simplifi tries so hard to push me away.

  • Simplifi, Good Money Management Tool with Chance to be Great!

Simplifi is a good financial management app that makes day to day personal and business accounting much easier. If you use Quicken as well it’s far more useful. They do a good job of adding new tools and features designed to keep users engaged with their money and able to see how it is spent, saved, invested and wasted in new ways. They do need to increase the number of partner banks and investments that can be automatically monitored and a direct payment capability would be amazing, but overall it’s a pretty good money management tool. It is too expensive and I would love to see Simplifi become a free app or at very least cut the price in half.

  • Glitchy, laggy, and slow

I love the service, accounting system, and website. But this app really needs general UI improvements. If I don’t swipe left or right on a transaction absolutely perfectly straight, the side menus don’t pull up right. Sometimes transactions don’t load right when I'm scrolling through and I have to scroll up and down. Loading icons seem to always be present and it takes forever to load transaction lists. Sometimes the list just jumps around randomly.

Its easier to be patient with features that I use just to check in on finance numbers, but I need to properly categorize transactions with the transaction list so I spend a lot of time scrolling through and swiping things. These glitches mean that I can’t do it on my phone reasonably and I have to put it off until I’m in front of a computer. If I can’t fix transaction categorizations on the phone easily, then none of the finance numbers are up to date and there’s no point to the app even being on my phone. Please stop all work on new features until the app UI is fast and bug free. New features are pointless if I can’t quickly categorize transactions to bring the finances up to date.

Thank you for being a customer! Based on your feedback and many others — we did prioritize making the app much faster and more responsive. This week we released a new version that is quicker and resolves any of the bugs; please update the app to ensure you're on the latest version! — Jonas @Simplifi
  • Switched from YNAB. Love it so far

I just switched from YNAB because I can’t justify spending nearly $90 a year for their app. Mint is good but the ads kill it for me. This is a good compromise with the 40% off coupon. I also find the budgeting approach super easy and impactful. Mint and Quicken traditional approach is too hard and I never get much help from it. YNAB is superior but you pay a lot for it and it really doesn’t do much unless you are super faithful to their model. Simplifi gives me the ease and flexibility I need. It is a new app though so the bugs are getting worked out.

  • Good concept. Really glitchy!

I’ve tried lots of budgeting apps. This has been one of my favourite for the variety of features offered and it’s ability to connect directly to so many different financial institutions. My problem is that the app is extremely glitchy and the response from their support team is poor. For example, transactions that appear on my credit card randomly will not appear in the app. This occurs across multiple accounts. Income also regularly duplicates itself, requiring manual intervention. Accounts also regularly stop working, requiring reconnection. The frustration is that the fix for these issues is to disconnect and reconnect, which typically results in historical data being lost. This defeats the purpose of the app if you want to see how you’re performing over a longer period of time. This app is paid, so I expect a certain level of quality. Quicken needs to do better. Fix the core features before releasing new ones.
