  • Simply The Best VPN

My profession is cybersecurity. I have tried nearly every VPN product on the market, and I can assure you that for privacy, security, speed, anonymous use , reliability, features, robustness, and ease of use, no other VPN product can even come Mullvad VPN. With support for multi-hop, secure DNS, quantum hardening, anti-VPN circumvention, DNS-based content filtering, and both Wireguard and Open VPN, Mullvad VPN has everything a security professional would require in a VPN, all packaged in a product so easy to use that no technical knowledge is required for its use by even the most technologically naïve user.

    HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

You simply can't go wrong by choosing Mullvad VPN.
  • Connection issues

I can no longer recommend this app. It’s been 6 months of connectivity issues that have not been resolved. There are problems with being disconnected and difficulties reconnecting. I was told to try the WireGuard app. That worked for a while but now I often get zero data when connected. I also use an alternative brand VPN. I just switch over to that one and everything works fine so the problem is not my wifi or cellular connections. Other companies have figured this out so I can’t understand how after many months nothing has changed. There are also IP address registration problems that lead some companies into thinking you’re in another country. Today I connected to McAllen, TX. I couldn’t make a purchase because websites thought I was in the Czech Republic. Same with Detroit. Websites thought I was in London.

  • Pretty Good

I got this VPN because I live in the city and there’s tons of scammers in my area using IMSI catchers. I believe this does in fact encrypt my data so it can’t be viewed by prying eyes. It’s the only VPN I found that uses IPv6, which is huge, even the big names like Nord don’t use it. Although Nord does use more DNS domains (instead of one like this VPN) as the moment stands here’s some ways the service can be improved:

-Offer TOR services - ability to go to .onion sites
-Add more split DNS addresses similar to that of Nord
-Ability to see the IP address you’re connect to — through a widget or as a notification on the top bar
    -Add split tunneling
    -Add double VPN

I can understand the price going up as well for these features, but in the long run it would be worth it, maybe add as a premium package.

As it stands, for the money it’s a good service
  • Disconnects with no notifications

The Internet wasn't working on my phone this morning. Took me a little while to figure out it was Mullvad. The app updated itself and disconnected, blocking the Internet. First off, why couldn't it just reconnect after the update? Secondly, if it's going to disconnect me, why not tell me this in a notification so I'm not sitting here guessing why the Internet isn't working?

There have also been times when the app tells me my balance/subscription is running out and I need to send a payment. One time it even kicked me off the VPN. But I have automatic payment set up through PayPal, so this should never happen.

The service itself is great, don't get me wrong, but the app doesn't provide a good customer experience.
  • Impressively fast and reliable

I am seriously impressed with Mullvad! I had held off on getting a VPN because of reported slow network speeds with other VPN providers. However, my internet is actually faster than it has ever been with Mullvad. I’m also amazed at how quick and easy it is to switch IP addresses. I mean, it’s SO fast. I love being able to watch other Netflix shows, too.

The app is super simple to use (plus, the little mascot is so cute). Simply put, I love how straightforward the product is—there are no gimmicks, price surges, or annoying marketing tactics. The product is simple, yet incredibly effective, and the price is a steal. All in all, the product speaks for itself.
  • I give up

Generally a huge fan of the service, and have been a subscriber for the better part of a decade. Lately, the app has difficulty establishing a proper connection and I must disconnect and reconnect multiple times before it actually works. EDIT: Dropping another star because this issue is pushing me away from Mullvad altogether. ANOTHER EDIT: I guess this issue won’t be resolved. Dropping another star down to 2. After a decade of loyalty, I won’t be renewing my subscription at the end of the month.

LAST EDIT: Well, that’s it. After 7 years I’m done with Mullvad. The app has become unusable. To Proton I go. 👋
  • The Gold Standard

Painless, fast, and versatile with excellent content blockers and lightning-fast Wireguard servers. Works on every platform imaginable including my router. They have also proven that their no-log policy isn’t just a policy. I can not recommend Mullvad enough. The service is so good a lot of other VPN companies simply re-sell Mullvad’s service. Liberal amount of devices for the fee charged. They also have a myriad of payment options including cryptocurrency. Choosing Mullvad is a no-brainer. I sincerely hope they release a client for TVOS 17 now that it supports VPN apps.
  • WT_ is up with the disconnects?

I’m in my second year as a subscriber and I’m getting tired of not only being disconnected randomly, but I just found myself surfing the internet without my vpn active.

I didn’t deactivate it. I was just using it earlier.

When I opened the app, I found a big welcoming window telling me about Mullvad’s greatness. 🤨 behind it was the recognizable “not protected” screen. 🤯🤬

I have auto-update turned off- what’s up with that!?

    Wait! There’s more!

Sometimes the servers will hiccup and just freeze. You might find yourself staring at a spinning “connecting“ icon when you check the app, after a minute of waiting for a web page to unsuccessfully load or a file to unsuccessfully transfer.

Heck, there isn’t even a way (I know of) to tell from the vpn icon on the phone that you are actually connected. It will always look the same and mostly indicates that you expect the vpn to be running, but not that it actually is.

I love their privacy features, but I expect to be able to trust my vpn completely. I can’t even trust them to protect me all the time 😒

Read the reviews and think about what you need, before committing. ⚠️
  • Constantly dropping in and out, could be Apple

I recently got an iPhone 14 Pro Max and I had been a user of PIA and Proton. However, I added Mullvad shortly before getting the 14 Pro Max and generally liked using it. However, the latest phone seems to break the connection of the VPN hundreds of times per day. Any time anything Apple is used the connection drops out and resets. This makes using a vpn worthless. Apple has already gone too far by allowing their devices to circumvent VPNs for whatever they choose. But up until recently it was rare that any VPN would drop out. But now, Mullvad drops in and out the most. Today I stopped counting and it had to be well over 40 times. I stopped counting at 25 dropped connections and that was by 1pm. While writing this review it’s dropped out twice and reconnected. Maybe it’s just time to bail on Apple. They’re clearly becoming as intrusive as Google.
