Nearly perfect
Just need to be able to schedule picking and unlocking when not in smart mode for connected pet door and it would be 5*
So much better than the competition
After spending two years, struggling to make a short flap online system work, the pet safe system is a godsend. The app is actually very well designed and you can have individual schedules for individual cats. Training any is definitely a trick, but this one as well thought out with the right kind of hardware, no need for a stupid hub or Ethernet cabling (?!) as in the competition.
Considering how hard it is to make a product and the correct software stack, I must say this is about as good as one could expect - especially considering the complex requirements. Nice work Petsafe team!
One area for improvement would be better documentation for the typical end user-perhaps some videos, better FAQs and so on… personally I had no problem but then I had to “sureflap” nightmare before this…

Scheduling is overly confusing and hard to manage
First issue I had was the door was retired by the app before I even had it installed. However the company stood behind their products and replaced the door free of charge, so fantastic customer service there.
That does not however excuse this abysmal app. Setting a schedule is easy, but using it is nearly impossible. The display when in “smart” just shows that it’s in smart mode. Is it locked, unlocked, or what? No idea, it’s just “smart”. As a human I’ve been unable to get the door to open with a tag when the schedule says it should be unlocked (but I can’t tell because it’s just “smart”). I’ve gone to just manually locking and unlocking the door because I can’t trust the app. Certainly not more convenient than just opening a door.

Great idea but doesn’t quite hit the mark
I bought a smart cat flap (which was a nightmare I won’t even go into). However, upon downloading and starting to use the app to manage which cat has what access, I realised that the only way to individually manage different access for my 2 cats was to use schedules. Which gets confusing and should really be simpler. I wanted to be able to have one cat able to come and go as he pleases and the other one to have no access to leave. But there is no way to do this in the app other than with schedules. Seems like they are missing a trick and didn’t actually consult any pet owners or use beta testers when putting the app together. Also don’t buy the smart cat flap if you are putting it in a glass door that has metal in it. The microchip part won’t work and they’ll tell you you need an adaptor (for another £80) which I can’t do as my door is too small). So I’ve decided to try to use the tags to allow me to use the door to it’s full “smart” capabilities. So I ordered a tag for £10. Then they charge me around £10 for postage. For something that could be put in an envelope! They’re charlatans!

Not worth it
Constantly has issues with WiFi and network connectivity, pretty much disabling any changes you want to make (like meal schedule times and amounts). Seems like an easy fix with an update, but haven’t heard a peep from the developer. Won’t be buying their products again.
Great product!
Seriously great. We love this product! It helps us to stay on track, and as all the feeds are recorded we never accidentally overfeed our dog. He was2kg overweight and he is now back to perfect weight! Really easy to use, super accessible and simple instructions. Thank you! Honestly really recommend! Check out @moosetheminidappledach for photos etc - we would be glad to chat about the product and verify that this is a legit review. Only good things to say 🙌🏼

PetSafe automatique feeder
This machine is quite reliable and safe for one's pet. We had one for years and it is still going strong.
I would recommend it to anyone who wants to make sure their pet gets fed and not worry about missed meals. It is a little more expensive but it is worth the peace of mind.

Reliable app, easy to program and use
It does the job well, it’s easy to set up a meal program and get going. The “low food” reminders are useful to know when to refill the container. The cats have adapted well to using it.
Skip a meal feature request
The product and the app are great. Our cat likes to eat small meals throughout the day, so the 1/8 cup portions are perfect. It helps when we are on vacation- the pet sitter doesn’t have to stop by multiple times a day and I can monitor the schedule.
Two additions I’d like to see: the option to skip a meal without having to change the schedule and re-add it later. Also to have a lock feature on the snack/power button - somehow our cat learned how to press it and has turned it off on occasion.

I just don’t get it
I’ve tried literally everything, down to doing the same routine minus Bluetooth being on when the SmartFeed is on, to having it on but not WiFi, to the auto join vs manually adding my WiFi info. No matter what, it says “oops there’s an error” when the blue light starts flashing fast. And I did try what some people said worked which is to try and do it on my phone’s data plan. This is the SECOND feeder we’ve tried to use, after being on the phone for an hour with someone who eventually sent us a free feeder to replace the other one that didn’t connect. I appreciate the sentiment but ultimately we’re talking over $100 for something that clearly works, but the app just won’t do it’s job in the beginning. VERY disappointed. GET ON THE APP AND FIX IT PETSAFE.
