Just a bad UI
Still disconnects from WiFi periodically.
My biggest pet peeve is the fact that the “stop recording” button is huge and the “view chart” button is tiny and right underneath the “stop recording” with no line breaks or space.
During a 17+ hour cook, which button do you think users will interact with most - stop recording, or view chart???
How many people do you think accidentally hit stop recording when they want to view chart???
Whoever designed that bit of genius should be flogged in public.

MEATER works better
Got the ultra Q a while back and when it works it’s good but most of the time the wifi drops.
The Bluetooth range is very limited. It’s been frustrating. I received the MEATER for Christmas and it’s app is much better.
Guru needs to improve their app or they’ll lose sales. I’m thinking of selling my Ultra Q.

Wifi issues
First off, this works great with Bluetooth.
Problem is I bought it for wifi use and to use remotely. It is weird because it won’t connect to my wifi (verified password and probably tried it a dozen times). I think they must have nuked their system with a firmware update or something because it worked great when I first got it a year or so ago.
It is really a shame. I would not buy their product again.

App has improved but still has bugs
Latest bugs in the app-
- Share My Cook feature mostly never works in the app. Sometimes the feature doesn’t even show up on the screen. Tapping the link to view the cook doesn’t do anything. Tapping the link to start or stop the recording makes the loading graphic spin until the app crashes.
- The app doesn’t hold always hold a settings change from C° to F° - defaults to C°.

Wifi connectivity broken
The app says the ultraQ is not connected to the Wi-Fi, however, the router shows it connected to the network. When you exit out, the app shows you that it’s actually on Wi-Fi, but when you look, the the IP address in the app shows the primary DNS server and not the IP address of the device.
Wi-Fi is jacked
Wi-Fi is the whole reason I bought this thing. So far it has worked the 1st and 3rd times I’ve used it. 2nd and 4th? No such luck. Email back from support said to make sure both Wi-Fi and BT symbols were present. But no advice for if they aren’t! I would have never bought this if I knew it would be so infuriating. Should have read the app reviews instead of device reviews. Lesson learned.

Expensive Junk
After four years the UltraQ is still just expensive junk. Apparently the device is so poorly designed it simply can’t be fixed. The connection problems are insurmountable. The ‘fixes’ from customer service are ridiculously complicated and ineffective. I am hoping a competitor will soon grind this company into the dust. Because that’s where this scam belongs.

BBQ Guru has gone to trash
I have been a longtime fan and user of BBQ guru. However, the ultra Q and this app are pure trash. If you want an exercise in frustration trying to keep the device connected to either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, this app and device are for you. Despite using this brand for over a decade, it is time to start looking elsewhere.

Unreliable
The unit will randomly disconnect from both WiFi and bluetooth connections. Wouldn't be a big deal if you could simply reconnect, but the unit itself will freeze and report stable temps while the fan stops and the actual temp drops to useless levels. Tech savvy user. If I wasn't paying attention the Ultra Q would have ruined a $250 brisket.

Not always dependable
While the company was kind enough to trade out my UltraQ after it failed to work, the recent updates to the firmware rendered my unit unresponsive to my app. I emailed customer support and awaiting a response. It seems when I want to use this device for a long smoke, it fails me in some way. Great product if it would only work more consistently.
