  • Great with caveats

It works well when it works, but odd little things keep it from being 5 stars: Metadata including artists, song and album titles frequently disappear when my Plex server updates. Thereโ€™s no scrolling for long titles, so for example backed up podcasts with long titles or songs with a list of guest artists are very cut off with no way of viewing the whole title(s). Itโ€™s cool to be able to better control streaming from my computer, but minor app improvements can go a long way in making it great.

  • Almost perfect

As somebody who has a fairly large digital collection of lossless audio files, I prefer to transfer these to my mobile device and listen to them on the go. Apple has restrictions loading local music onto your and iOS device outside of using the iTunes application, which is a pretty awful experience, especially on Windows platforms. This is where PlexAmp comes into the picture.

PlexAmp allows you to do exactly what you think, which is transfer fully lossless audio files to your device (hosted from your Plex server), and listen to them on the go. It works pretty seamlessly. I had to deduct a star from this rating, however, because downloaded files do not have the same organizational system as those hosted on your personal Plex server or the standard Plex iOS application. This makes scrolling through a large, downloaded collection pretty tedious and cumbersome, as there is no way to filter for artists or albums, and the albums can sometimes be sorted in an incorrect order.

  • Not easy to navigate offline

I like the concept of the app to separate the music from the rest of plex but Iโ€™m not happy with the interface and search capabilities when in offline mode. You have to be in download tab to play download music and can only scroll.

Still using plex mobile app for now until this is in a better place. Was hoping it was the next iPod but not quite there yet. Thank you for getting this to where it is right now though.

  • Awesome App

I absolutely love this app. Thank you Plex for making an amazing way to listen to music! The interface is absolutely stunning and easy to use. I've not once had any buffering issues or latency problems no matter if I'm at home or hundreds of miles away from home.
If your worried about large music libraries, my library of 5,000 songs in many different formats plays just fine.
My only thing negative I have to say is that sometimes album art is missing. I would love to see a way on this app to manage album covers or a way to pull them from an online sourcr.

  • Love this app!

I used to use Google Play to manage my music collection. The fact that they replace your uploaded version of a track with their own in addition to the huge issues with uploading tracks led me to pursue standing up my own Plex media server. Iโ€™ve been using Plex for a few years and have discovered some significant flaws with the iOS app. In particular, downloading and continuous synchronization of a large music collection was significantly flawed, and required me to completely delete and re-download the media dozens of times. I was about to give up and and then I came across this app. I canโ€™t say enough positive things about my experience using this app. And they have CarPlay support on top of it?? If someone can tell me how I can make a donation to the developers please!

  • Plexamp is GREAT!

Plexamp is a companion app to the Plex ecosystem of that specializes on your personal music library that you have stored on your Plex Media Server. With Plex partnering with key metadata companies, your personal collection of music and movies is curated to look like that of the mainstream streaming companies.

Plexamp allows your personal library of music to be handled for you or by you. Offline downloads allow your playlists to be accessible when out of reach. Fantastic features like sweet fades, volume leveling, and Sonic Analysis make your playlists be better and sound better.

Anyone who enjoys managing and listening to their own collection should seriously consider putting Plexamp on their radar.

  • Yes!!!!

This is the update I have been waiting for! Love that we can skip custom -/+ now.
Fixed the bug when have over 200k items in your library TY!! And plenty of other great updates, enhancements and fixes. Definitely update its amazing! Youโ€™d think with so many changes there might be issues but itโ€™s working just as reliably as one would expect from plexamp. Keep up the good work, devs, excellent update!

Future consideration: adding bookmark or way to remember past listening point for files. Some long podcasts and audiobooks can be a real pain to go back to if I listen to something else in between.

  • The one thing I need to make it perfect

I love this app so much, the look, the UI, almost everything. But the only thing keeping me from using this at my daily driver music app is the offline functionality. I want to be able to download all of my music, search, and have all of the same functionality as the streaming section. If this could happen it would make my day and I would recommend this app to everyone. Iโ€™ve used Plex forever and I love it, I want to love Plexamp just as much.

  • Close to perfect

I was in love with Google Play Music for years and it was central to my daily life as a way to listen to my music collection across all my devices and on the go. When it closed up shop last year, I spent a long time researching my options for a replacement. I settled on Plex and the Plexamp app as my choice and have found it to be great, far better than GPM was in terms of visual UI and sound quality. However, there are a few features that donโ€™t quite fit the high standard that the product sets in most ways. Other reviews here have mentioned the lack of repeat functionality, but I want to point out the big need for improvements in the equalizer. As I listen across multiple systems, it is necessary to use eq to get consistent sound. The eq doesnโ€™t have presets or allow saved settings or profiles meaning that I have to manually set the eq points each time I switch systems. This seems primitive compared to the rest of the app. Hopefully this can be improved.

Thanks so much for the review, Campfly! We definitely have some improvements in mind for the EQ, stay tuned...
  • Probably good for smaller collections, but a buggy mess regardless

I've been looking to move away from Apple Music and the 100k song limit that comes with the iCloud Music Library, and thought this was the solution: access to my whole library with the option to download for offline listening. What I didn't realize, however, is that trying to access downloaded music on this app when internet is spotty (like commuting on the subway) was basically impossible, so the app is worthless in that regard. I thought this might improve by springing for a Plex Pass, but no dice.

To make matters worse, functionality the app around my home (either on WiFi or cellular data) has cratered into unusability: search function is completely broken in that nothing I type yields any result - it may register the first letter I enter, but that's it. Trying to navigate back to my library results into a molasses-like slowdown before the app finally crashes.

I started out very excited to use Plexamp, and it even worked for a couple of days before becoming mired in an impregnable swamp of frustration.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, maybe it only works on the latest phones - I wish I knew, because I really don't want to go back to Apple Music.
