Extremely disappointed with the app considering the cost of the annual subscription. Here’s a few notes that should be obvious is you’ve used the machine at all:
1) Make the videos pauseable from the watch!
- why would I have my phone on me or at arms reach while lifting.
2) if there’s a handle change needed for the next activity ADD 5 TO 10 SECONDS!!!
- because of video editing the coach is always halfway through the next set before I’m ready to start. This could also be fixed if I could pause the video from my watch.
3) if I fail in the middle of a set at lifting 50 lbs, don’t make the next rep start at 50 lbs
4) the “self guided” workouts should allow me to select the frequency of workouts. As a beginner why would I want to lift 6 days a week? That’s not realistic and not recommended.
5) the “self guided” workouts should also have the option to remove or sub in a different exercise in. I’m hyper mobile and have to pay extra close attention to how I move for certain activities. For example certain squats can dislocate my knees.
6) if a squat is being held standing up for too long it should deload as it may not be safe to squat to deload (basically again think about people with bad knees)
For such an expensive machine you’d think the app wouldn’t be so awful. Constantly pauses the training videos, doesn’t save your place if you exit, and fast forwarding to where you were at is nearly impossible.
Either you can have a mediocre app experience for 30/mo or a bottom tier app experience for free.
Imagine paying the subscription and getting no updates to app for several months?
Vitruvian has proven that they are not worthy of the subscription fee they ask for.
As a former pro athlete and celebrity trainer, I can authoritatively tell you, the Vitruvian is an outstanding home workout device. It is safe, effective, versatile and easy to use. The training app is exceptional. You get multiple modalities and they all come with videos showing you how to execute the strength training moves! They also have excellent customer service! There is also an online community to compete with or just chart your progress if you wish. If you’re on the fence, just go for it. The Vitruvian is an investment that you make on yourself! Totally worth it and a bargain in reality!
In addition, as a pro trainer and researcher, I can definitively say squats are a pillar of long term health. With the Vitruvian, you can do squats with a waist belt, which removes strain on the spine which is often a deal breaker for many people for proper strength training. This simple fact is enough reason to invest in a Vitruvian.
I promise you won’t regret it.
Goddamn this is intense
The machine is great but the app frequently crashes and contains tons of bugs. When you report bugs the team often just tells you to restart the app and never addresses the issue. Sound cues are really buggy and they don't even give you access to them without a subscription which is pretty irritating.
Overall would not recommend this product over more prominent home gyms.
So I got this device over a month ago and so far it does not disappoint, it kicks my butt good! So exercises like the windmill were confusing at first, but then I visualized holding the dumbbell above me instead of the small handle and then that was a game changer. I do miss hearing the clang of weights but at the same time this is giving me constant tension and I definitely feel the difference. No more traffic, no more lines at the gym, and no weirdos filming you, so that they could become tik-tok famous:)
I’m within my 30 day trial, and am probably going to return it.
Here’s the fact: Vitruvian is a company that has created an _amazing_ piece of hardware. Its small form factor and capabilities are amazing.
*HOWEVER*, the software side of it is SO TERRIBLE that it renders the machine nearly unusuable.
IMO, Vitruvian should just partner with something like FitBod and fire their entire software division. I’m not exaggerating.
As a designer, I spend a lot of the day looking at a screen it would be nice to take a break from that if you could enable dark mode that would that would help a lot to break from the eye strain.
Thanks for the consideration!
This app could be great with a few additions
- you do not see the equipment setup for an excersize until after the 3 second clock is complete, by then it is to late to set up the straps and bench. Why, as you are waiting between excersize wouldn’t you show how to set up the bench, etc… you only see that once the excersize has started, huge fail!!!
- since you cannot see the excersizes before starting the exersize, any movement of the bars or straps registers as a pre-movement. You get 3 movement reps so the machine knows the motion range but you can eat those up just getting ready for the exersize
- the pictures of the excersizes are small, the videos are minuscule and take up about 1% of the screen. Why are the videos so small? You have to have a magnifying glass to see the motion, hand or foot placement, inexcusable. Even on my iPad it is terrible.
For $3k+, the UI and app should be much better, it does work but needs basic refinement
