Love it and if you love DnDB, you should too

First, let’s get one thing out of the way: buying physical copies of the books does not entitle you to all the content on DnDBeyond. I am amazed that I am still seeing that nonsense, years after they started licensing the digital content. This is a companion app for DnDBeyond and you only have access to what you have purchased through DnDBeyond. Okay? Get it? Alright, let’s move on. Yeesh.

The app works great for everything it supports. The search engine is fast and reliable, character pages look great and are nearly all features on the web are supported now. It’s smooth and book updates are much easier on data now. At this point, if you use DDB and not the app, you’re crazy.

Thanks for your review! Please recommend our app to your friends, and don’t hesitate to shoot us a note at support@dndbeyond.com if you have any questions.

Digital dice are blurry

The app is nice and all, but when do you intend to fix the blurry digital dice? It looks like iOS and iPadOS have trouble scaling the WebGL canvas and as a result the digital dice becomes blurry and pixelated like a game from 2005. Am I the only one who finds this frustrating? A little hint for the developers: Try doubling the drawingbuffer size to match the size of the canvas. It would be greatly appreciated by the people who pay for dice skins if you could fix this. Thank you!

Great App

This app is great. It saves me from having to debate with friends over how some of the rules work, because it does it for you. It saves me time when I’m not sure about exactly what a spell does, I can simply click on the spell and it will tell ‘‘em how it works.

Now I do have some problems with DDB. This first is a very common one: having to repurchase the books when you already have the physical copies. However, I do love how the books are cheaper on DDB than most other places, like a book store. My other complaint is not a very big issue for me, but might be for others; the phone interphase, in my opinion, is hard to use. Again, not a problem for me because I am lucky enough to to be able to have a laptop I can take to sessions, it not everyone can and I can see the issue being a problem for some. The interface for an tablet is good, but on a phone, I find it difficult to use.

Please get rid of the snowflakes!

A little clunky with adding do and with magical items with use slots. But overall very helpful. I was hoping this last update would get rid of the snowflakes that really delays gameplay.

As seen on Critical Role! But I got a problem

Love the app have been using it for over 2 years now. We are some of the blessed. My homie and DM won a raffle from you guys and shared the full collection with us. And we’ve noticed while using your app a particular issue. When creating a character after a previous update (not sure when) post Tasha Cauldron of Everything, I can’t create an artificer! Every other class and unlocked subclass (That we own) works fine in creation except Artificer! One of our homies had a multiclassing Artificer created pre-patch, and wanted to use it (considering we can’t creat a new one) to multiclass into a blood-hunter. I thought that sounded awesome! but ran into all the problems above and found even after troubleshooting on his app the pre patch Artificer he already had made was unable to multi-class into a blood hunter.

Otherwise Lovely App!!
As a DM and a player, there’s just nothing else like D&D Beyond!

Beyond Frustrating

Started to create a character and got all the way to the final screen of creation. When I was choosing a background for my character, I noticed the marketplace link offering more options. I clicked it to take a look, but had no way of returning to the character creation screen, and now my character is locked in with literally nothing filled out for his background, equipment, ect and I have no way to edit the character or even delete it and start from scratch. You’d think an official app like this would have basic options like character deletion/editing. Definitely not worth the frustration, and not worth dropping a penny on in-app content if it can’t even sort out the basics.

This app is excellent for tracking available actions

Pro: This app is great for navigating your character sheets and your characters’ attributes and resources. Very similar to the full website version of the character sheet.

*This ‘Con’ has been since corrected!*
Con: When looking at cantrip spells and the like, the dice value for damage does NOT scale with your character level as it does in the full website. Example: Fire bolt is 1d10 damage, but would scale to 2d10 damage at character level 5. The full website displays that automatically. The app does NOT implement this scaling behavior.

Disappointing

This rating is based on the use of the app as a DM. For players it's a good 4 star rating. But as a tool for Dungeon Masters it is woefully lacking, particularly for those on an iPad like myself.

As an app for DMs it makes buying the books in a digital format useless, other than as a reference source. You cannot create Campaigns, Adventures, Items, Spells, or anything. This makes this app far less useful than even free apps I have downloaded.

It's a great source for players & creating characters, but that's it. I cannot be as generous as some others that mention these issues as well, typically giving it a high rating for some reason. As a DM tool this app isn't very useful though, so I have to give it a rating of 1. As much as I wish I didn't have to, but I have to be as honest as I can be in rating this.

Offline mode doesn’t work right

DND beyond is a good price of kit when it works, but what is really horrible is that they say the app has an offline mode, but it really doesn’t work well.

When I play D&D, it’s in an area with low mobile reception, you would think offline mode would work, but all I get is constant loading loops on character sheet like the app has failed to cache the data. I’ve tried uninstalling, reinstalling, turning my device on and off, swiping down on the character sheet menu to see if it does anything in the background. Still nothing.

The weirdest part of the app is that it has this “accept tracking” feature, I try turning it on, takes me to the settings but it doesn’t have any feature where I can switch that on (if it resolves the problem).

Amazing app in need of one feature!

This an all round amazing app, use it for all of my DnD needs! Only problem is, I really want a game log tracker, so DMs don’t need to open up the website to see if their players are fudging each individual roll.
