  • Amazing option vs in ground system!

I bought an Oto unit 2 years ago trying to find a better option than watering with a sprinkler. I looked into an automatic sprinkler / in ground but didn’t want to dig up my yard, it’s costly and with an odd shape was complicated. My Oto is awesome, easy to program, covers very precise area that you control and have had absolutely no issues! I have had to plug in a few times when there is a series of dark cloudy days, and you need a good hose to ensure water pressure delivers an effective range. It’s easy to maintain, the bottles are effective and I am a huge supporter. Easy to remove for winter and starts up again like a charm in the spring! It has done wonders for my lawn. I wish they would release the mosquito formula in Canada!

  • Simple and impressive, but not for every lawn

In my front lawn, there’s a big tree and therefore no good place to mount Oto; with a single stream, weird shapes are not a problem but if there’s a tree in the way this is not an ideal solution vs. irrigation system. My back lawn didn’t have that problem and by mounting it on the side of a shed, 2 feet off the ground I was able to get almost 40 ft of range from it. The accuracy seems to decline as the distance increases. Obviously the “spread” of water is wider at a distance, but also it seems to overshoot the points a bit. I will tinker with them but am hesitant to use the solutions with it when I’m not sure the right fertilizer will end up in the right place. As a sprinkler, it’s expensive but will save me a lot of time and hassle.
App itself is simple and straightforward- barebones but it does what you need with a lot less complexity than RainPoint or Orbit. Well done guys by focusing on basics.

  • App needs to be killed and restarted to get current info

I find that I’m constantly getting poor info on my battery and WiFi signal strength from this app. In order to get accurate info, I have to kill the app and then start it again. This needs to be fixed. Also, there needs to be a better way to manage notifications within the app, specifically to delete multiple notifications at once. It’s ridiculous that so many accumulate and have to be deleted one by one.

  • Nothing is Simple

The app, the device itself and the added solutions are all surprisingly difficult to use. Nothing works exceptionally well. The device itself is made of thin unremarkable plastic. It does not seem like it will last for a significant number of years. The app is unnecessarily complicated, glitchy and it's nearly impossible to figure out how to get mosquito and fertilizer solutions added to the watering schedule. When things are working, more than half waterings and treatments seem to be cancelled because I didn't catch a notification in time, their was a glitch, etc.

Overall, I love the idea of this product and had high hopes, but at this point, I am just going to attach a hose sprinkler to a timer and make life a lot easier.

I knew this product is laughable as a lawn watering system. You need about 5 of these to cover a small lawn. I bought two of these for my two garden beds. With a 20-30’ reach I thought it would easily cover my 30’x30’ beds if I put it in the middle. Sadly this is not the case. This doesn’t even make it 15’ The length of hose does nothing. The fertilizer is ridiculously expensive. $35 per bottle and you have no option to use your own. This is a money grab and they will be out of business in not much time. Customer service is a joke, they send form letters and blame you for the shortcoming of their product.

  • No way to call anyone at Oto for customer support

Customer support is all via email it seems. Overall the product works very well. There are some glitches and bugs with the app which I assume will get worked out.

    1) I keep seeing an oto has been disconnected for 3 hours error - yet i am perfectly able to control the oto anyway.

2)I see an "oto began watering" but sometimes i dont get a "watering completed" message and with no explanation as to why. Meanwhile the "estimated time remaining" is stuck at "1 minute" for the last 40 minutes now.

    3) in the app, one of my three otos shows a battery indicator that says "N/A" for some reason.

    4) the water pressure sensor is a little too sensitive - it should be adjustable, because what ends up happening is if you have multiple otos on one spiggot and both turn on at the same time, a temporary drop in pressure can occur while the second oto is turning on (especially when on well water) and then the oto cancels the watering because it interprets it as insufficient.

  • Easier than a hose, cheaper than digging up my yard

In general, I like the hardware and to a lesser degree, the app. Things that drive me crazy - why can I manually water a point zone with 1 gallon per point, but the smallest unit of scheduled water delivery is 5 gallons per point? Why can I not schedule a watering once every other week? I have a xeriscape zone that doesn’t need 5 gallons per point once a week.

The hardware is pretty good - I wish the water delivery was a little more gentle. I’m seeding new grass and OtO absolutely hammers the establishing grass with aggressive water.

  • On its way to 5 star….. needs a little something on the app

I have a few more to install, but this is a great system so far. I would like to see a “currently running” with a possible “time remaining” feature per zone. I have all the solutions on order to test them out as well.
    Easy setup… easy configuration.
