Awful app, not solving any actual problem
UPDATE: the devs are resetting their app rating after the disastrous Bite of Seattle debacle. Real class act, folks.
App is slow, crashes, is completely inaccessible, and worst of all: doesn’t solve a real problem! No one is complaining about using a credit card or Apple Pay to buy food at a venue. The number of steps required to use this app to order is preposterous, and I haven’t met a single vendor here in Seattle that doesn’t hate it. But since they’re sponsoring our event, we HAVE to use it. Thanks, CHEQ, for ruining the Bite of Seattle.

Not even sure if that’s legal according to apples terms of service. Will be contacting support if they don’t reply to email soon.
Bite Of Seattle 2023
This was the absolute WORST thing to happen to the Bite Of Seattle in it’s existence!!
I downloaded this app before the event thinking that it was going to be optional to use. Boy was I wrong!! The app had great features like a map & info on every vendor that may come in handy when there. That is where the good times ended.
When at my first food vendor making a purchase I found out you HAAAADD to use the app to order food EVERYWHERE. 👎🏾 I made my in app food choices & was able to quickly checkout using the Apple Pay feature I already had set up.
After this transaction I added the credit card I intended on using at this event to the app payment section & I was set for the rest of the day.
..DOWNSIDE(S)! After placing order in app you wait in line to “scan in” for the vendor to receive your order. Then you step aside to wait in another line for the vendor to call your name/hand you your order. We arrived early so our first few purchases were okay. As the event got busier the crowds/lines became worse, everyone was staring at their phones sort of lost. I had conversations with several people in the different lines regarding the confusion this app brought to our long time event. “Older folks” commented on not having the app, getting the app & then learning to use the app when all they wanted was to order food. Another lady came up to me lost asking if I knew where a particular vendor was which I did not. I can’t imagine the frustration of paying for food from a vendor you cannot find.
I made one purchase at a candle shop where it was optional to use the app. The shop shared his own stories from his customers at Saturday’s event. None were pleased. We arrived at 10:35am & left at about 3pm. I really hope this app is NOT AT ALL APART of next years event.

Would not recommend
Used cheq at bite of Seattle. Experience was terrible. Glitchy app, made wait times for food longer than expected, and added no value to the experience.
Whatever you do, don’t support this company
This app seeks to make events more cumbersome and less convenient while robbing vendors of their hard earned money.
They force you to use the app to order any food, and instead of using that to decrease wait times or make things more convenient they made wait times worse and less convenient and glitchy.

Terrible app
This app is so terrible it's so buggy, I used it to purchase food for the bite of seattle a few times, and it add random charges to my balance.
Terrible app
This app turned a two step process into a three step process. It’s a huge step backwards in the user experience.
Original process:
1 - Order food
2 - Pick up food after waiting
With the app the process becomes:
1 - Order food in app
2 - fight with NFC card or wait for vendor to do so
3 - Pick up food after waiting

Horrible for everyone involved
I used this both as a vendor and a consumer for a 3 day festival and it was simply terrible. I had issues with the NFC tap and pay, my bartenders made NO tips because people ordered prior and hated the app. At one point the app completely went down and I told the line of people that they would have to pay with card and they all cheered. That told me enough about it.

Ruined customer experience
This app actively ruined the customer check out experience. We were under contract to use CHEQ at a festival.
My customers were irate having to sign up for an app to pay for services. I had to
profusely apologize about the bizarre check out experience.
For the duration of the festival. I had emails and phone calls from people that were considering getting our services in the app, and decided against it and were still charged. I had to got to a CHEQ representative in person to get these charges reversed.
Think twice before using CHEQ.

A phone should not be a requirement
No, I do not want to share my personal data so I can buy a hotdog. No, I don’t want to stare at my phone all day at a food festival.
Stop this nonsense of creating an app for everything. You added a dozen new friction points to something that didn’t need solving. Let me just buy my food the normal way.
