Horrible app

What’s the point of an app, when you still have to wait in one line to check in. Then another to pick up the food. If I paid for it, I should be able to walk up and grab my food. Horrible app. It was a crappy experience! The Bite of Seattle used to be fun, but CHEQ and the company that hosted this year turned it into a nightmare.

Ruined Bite of Seattle

I was looking forward to the Bite making its come back this year and was quickly disappointed when I walked in and kept seeing QR codes. No one wants to download an app, but we were forced to anyway. It only got worse from there. There was no standard by the vendors so every stand had a different process meaning you’re standing in the sun waiting 40+ mins for something you’ve paid for before finally giving up. Whoever designed this app only had $ in mind and not the actual vendors. Why allow vendors to be bombarded with so many orders they physically can’t keep up with? What was wrong with the classic walking up and ordering? I will not return to the bite of this app is still around

i was a vendor and hated everything about this

it was so frustrating having to learn a whole new system for the ONE DAY i worked at Bite—customers would pay and order something before they came up to our booth which is fine and dandy except at our booth we have add-ons for after the initial experience. it led to a loss in what could have been extra sales for me and the business i was working for… AND it confused just about every single customer that i had to explain it to—i ended up having to grab their personal phone and put in the info. the worst payment app ever… thanks for sponsoring the event Cheq but never sponsor anything ever again please

Thanks but no thanks...

Thanks to CHEQ, the Bite has some legs again. Unfortunately, the pain started when I found great food for my kid. Yes, people were telling me on the Monorail ride over, “You'll need an app,” but I did not pay attention. An app that defaults to tracking my whereabouts? CHEQ. Confusing to use? CHEQ. More hindering than convenient? CHEQ. Do I blame CHEQ for making a poor product? No. Do I blame the city of Seattle for truly understanding the opportunity to get this right? Yes. Basically this was a failed experiment. If you are going to evolve the game at bite maybe go and check how other Food Fests work. CHEQ that OUT!

Extremely difficult to get refunds

Bite of seattle was a disaster; the app wasn't terribly slow but definitely couldn't handle all the users at one time. The most frustrating part was not being able to receive a refund through the app. You had to go to customer service in person, then they would tell you to get a return slip from the restaurant, which was impossible for some of the places because of the lines. Then you came back to customer service to give them the slip and hope that they don't lose it. I got a text that my refund is processing at least I guess.

They should have called this the stand in line and look at your phone festival

Buggy and Time Consuming

This app is the least user friendly app I have encountered. As Gen Z’r I struggled to add a payment method and then the whole needing to check-in before food is prepared makes the entire point of contactless ordering redundant.

How does this save time when you’re 1) forced to pay/order via this app 2) once you’ve paid/ordered you must check in at the establishment (in-person) 3) then you have to wait after you’ve checked in so you’re going to be waiting at the vendor anyways just like if you paid and ordered in person.

The use of Cheq is clearly an attempt by this company to force users to utilize their app and make money on a historically free and fun event.

In addition to all of the above, Cheq is incredibly discriminatory by adding additional barriers (such as needing to use a voucher to pay with cash) for people who for whatever reason are tech illiterate or uncomfortable with mobile apps/payments

Like!

I don’t know why people are complaining about the cheq app. My friends and I really liked using it. It saved us like an hour today.

We went to more than five food trucks. Normally we would’ve waited at least 10 minutes in each just to order the food. this time we only waited to pick up the food which was fast in most places. I really would love to see chew succeed. I gate waiting in lines.

As for the prices, I agree. It was expensive. But man, have you dined out recently? Inflation has hit seattle so much last couple years!

An Exasperating Encounter with Cheq at The Bite of Seattle

My recent experience with the Cheq system at The Bite of Seattle was nothing short of a complete disaster. Instead of making the event more efficient, it created a chaotic and irritating environment for attendees and vendors alike.

The Cheq app was an unmitigated nightmare. Nobody could figure out how to use it, which resulted in mass confusion. It felt like we were thrown into a poorly-designed digital labyrinth with no guidance, trying to decipher where and how to get food.

The waiting period for my order extended to an unacceptable one hour. The kicker? I then discovered that I had to check in on their system to even receive my food. This critical information was conveniently missing during the ordering process, turning what should have been a simple task into a frustrating ordeal.

When I tried to salvage the situation by asking for a refund, I was met with another roadblock. The vendors, despite being the faces of the service, were helpless and had no control over their orders. It was a ludicrous circus - I had to line up at a separate service booth for another hour just to get my money back.

To much work

At first when my friend sent this to me it said skip the line. How do I skip the line if we are all forced to using it? You have to go to one line to just scan it and then you still have to wait for your food to be made that may be up to an hour + depending on what you want. This just ruined the bite of Seattle for me, spent more time in line then chilling with my friends. Never using again if they do this at the next bite I'll pay my friends to wait in the line and just drop it of at my house for me. The only good thing was it telling you where each food stand was.

what did you do to the Bite of Seattle?!

Downloaded because it was the only way to purchase items for the Bite of Seattle. Made the whole experience terrible. CHEQ’s whole pitch about order ahead so you don’t have to wait in line?! Total joke. You order on the app (which may crash) and then you have to check in with the food vendor you ordered with which may have a line (which could be a long wait). So we had to wait over an hour to get our food items- this happened to alllll the people around us at the popular restaurants and no one knew what was going on despite how incredibly hard the food vendors were working. Also the app would crash for restaurants if they ran out of ingredients and needed take off something for their menu. It was a disaster. Everything would have worked so much smoother and easier if we could have just used Square to tap our cards rather than use this app. What did you did to the Bite of Seattle? Please don’t come back next year.
