I love having all time access to the compost bins, and really hope this program is a success!! Having an app to unlock the boxes is a good idea, and when my box was full, I liked that the app pointed me to a nearby option. But you know what would be even more awesome? A WATCH option. When I run out of the house with a sack of near rotting garbage, I’d love to not have to bring, or pull out and manipulate, my phone.sam-vilde
Love composting but bin design is bad
Love the composting app and the plentiful bins near me. I have no issues with the app. But the mouth of the bin is quite small to fit even a modest bag of compost in it. I usually have to shove it in, likely tearing the bag on the way in. But overall very happy with this new feature in my life.meeeeeeets

Works as it should and feels good to use it
I used to drop my food scraps off every Friday at the green market but this system is even more convenient. It’s easy to find an empty compost site and open it. A few tips - Use the foot pedal, and remember to remove fruit stickers. 🌎Apark123

So. Easy. I scanned. It opened. I put in my whole compostable salad bowl and utensils. Incredible to know that they won’t be sitting in some landfill for years! NYC is cleaning up!!streetman45

I’ve been using this on an iPad and found it reliable. Don’t forget to use the foot pedal on the bin, this is the best way to open the bin. At first I was using the handle, until I noticed the food pedal. Occasionally the apps or the bins don’t behave right, but you can go to another bin down the street and presto it works. Spend some time studying the app and check out your local bins. I can’t be sure whether the app requires Wi-Fi, but it does want Bluetooth. The 86th and 2nd bin is great because there is a free Wi-Fi nearby via Linksys, and this kicks in for me…ipad user trying to edit
