Excellent HP41 emulation; poor iPhone UI
I wanted to love this app, and even though it's a faithful emulation of the much-loved and incredibly flexible HP-41CX, it's also not a good example of iPhone programming in its current form. Instead of exploiting well-designed and implemented iPhone OS UI elements, the developer has relied on a confusing mix of controls which lack consistency and waste valuable screen space. Case in point: why are the registers, flags and quick reference materials displayed in a reduced frame when screen space is already at a premium? Pressing the power light on the printer to turn it on is far from obvious, selecting a new keyboard layout is convoluted, as is selecting port modules. And the available "themes" are nothing more than different keyboard graphics: being able to change the standard HP-41 display font to something vastly more readable, or changing the keyboard graphics to something better proportioned for the iPhone screen, might constitute a worthwhile theme; as-is, I don't really see the point. I could go on, but suffice to say the UI overhaul I hoped for in v2 didn't eventuate. A decent designer could turn this into a 5-star app: for now, it's 5 stars for the HP-41 faithful and 0 stars for the iPhone fans.

I been using the calculator from 1979 finally on the iphone with so many simulations of the most used plugin packs and templates.Great JOB worth the money ....spend
Not worth it
Can do landscaping, can't see the C, CE or = button to save my life LOL. Nostalgic value only. Very cumbersome to use.
You have to understand ...
Many people had a love affair with the HP41 line of calculators and I wish i could take you back to the times when it came out so you might understand. You can get a sense of it by the devotion expressed in the reviews from people that had one. Personnaly, I can tell you that I spent most of my waking hours exploring it. I wrote programs and bought accessories from memory and program modules to printers and tape drives. I owned at least 2 of the 3 models developed (41 / 41c / 41cx) though I couldn't tell you which ones. Eventually they were replaced but it was hard to find something that would handle formulas the way this would. The HP17B finally surpassed it by letting you easily solve for any of the variables in an equation. Still there have been things i have wanted to do that only this could do. Now I have it - again.

Brilliant emulation of HP41CX
You will not be disapointed. It is a really beautifully crafted application with all aspects of use carefully thought out. The best app that I have. You can save or load programs or expand it by loading up to four modules. If you used to use an HP41 then you will love this, or if like me when you were younger you liked to have a bit of fun with an old programmable calculator then you will enjoy playing around with this. Al is very responsive to any questions and there is lots of information and old manuals freely available for you to download. I would get this version as the printer extension is very useful for debuging mistakes in your programs.

Best calculator on the best smart phone
The hp41C was one of the best calculators. I have been using my one for over 27 years! The iPhone replaced my iPod, organiser and phone. With this great app, I can now also carry the 41C functionality on the one device. Fantastic implementation.
The printer is of limited use to me, but I see the developer now has a version of the app sans-printer.

Perfectly Simulated HP41CX
I still own and use an HP 41CX it is undoubtely the best calculator ever. Powerful functions, easy to use RPN. I must congratulate the enourmous effort to put all of the modules together. They have proven to be very valuable to me. The work is combined with the magnificent overlays. You can even hear the key clicks as you pressed them. To give an idea, this calculator, now a collectors item, was worth in the good old days, more than 30 times of what we are gladly paying today. This software brings honor to the best calculator ever built. Thank you so much.

More than device consolidation as if that weren't enough...
Few applications have gotten me as excited as this about switching phones and service providers. I am huge on device consolidation and this application takes the cake if you are or ever were an HP41 device user. I haven't tested every function of every add on ROM but my own applications thus far have operated flawlessly. It's an entire end user accessible programming platform right on my iPhone! The depth of coverage is mind boggling and the presentation is artistically stunning - true to the original image with enhancements that delight even the casual user. I can finally thrown away the box of old hardware that I've been hanging on to for decades. I hope to see enhancements that bridge the i41 environment to the iPhone's advanced capabilities. e.g. new i41 Functions that allow it to read current "GPS" positions, send text messages/email and perhaps an ability to query other elements of the iPhone's dataset (lookup contacts, etc).

PS Can we violate the original design ever so slightly by having an option to have a much deeper stack, say 256... Or even user specified. The original of course was limited by hardware.
