The advertising model has ruined this game
This basic software platform for playing backgammon, including with other players online, has been around for a long time. But the introduction of aggressive and intrusive ads, both in the form of a banner and in highly frequent, full-screen cut-aways, has basically ruined this as a game. I understand that the app needs to make money, but I don’t understand why there isn’t a pay option to turn off the advertising. I guess it’s good in the sense that it strongly discourages people from wasting their time playing (?), but assuming that you like and want to play backgammon, this app is no longer functional for that purpose. It has a strategy but the dice don’t always cooperate. Fun to see if you can survive to get to the area to get to the home cue. Still fun Like that you can stop with out a timer! Great fun! ...and it works. I love the environment, sound effects, manner of computer showing move available when touching a pip option, and the fast-pace. BUT... the computer wins 98% of the first rolls, and most all computer rolls are advantageous always to the computer. You can rest assured that if you ever leave a pip open, the computer WILL knock it off! PERIOD! The computer rolls doubles ad nauseum while I rarely receive any, and when I do.... it is when I’m trying to get a knocked off pip back into game play and the doubles I roll are for spots blocked in the computer’s home field. The computer makes “bad moves” and always gets away with it! In a live game with actual people and dice, the game would never be won making such strategically bad moves, but alas... the computer always WINS! I wish the game was more random in dice rolls and favored the computer LESS! I would give the app a 5+ stars rating otherwise. I’m giving it a 4 only for those things first mentioned. As far as satisfaction in game play, it is more of a 2!
ADDENDUM: Haven’t played this game in months. Today I did, and now I’m DONE with this app. In a single game, play was interrupted four times with ads! I don’t mind ads, but backgammon is a fast-paced game! To have an interruption like that during game play is horribly distracting… but to do it so frequently? That’s unconscionable!

Used to be ok. Fun game to pass and play with friends. They put ads in here and there, sure, but now it’s like 2 moves and ads. The ads have like 4 pages to them and you have to wait so many seconds per page for the X to pop up to skip. Miss the X & it loads the App Store so you go back to the game again and wait through 2 more pages, then get to the game and move, computer moves and your back to ads again. The whole round is this way. How many moves will you make in a round? Half of those are with 4 page ads each time.
Edit: there’s TONS of fake reviews here too. How do they get away with it?
Game play is favored to the computer. They get doubles a lot, if you’re winning then you roll 1’s & 2’s & the computer gets 5’s & 6’s. You get doubles when you’re not able to use them so forfeit your turn. Add the ads to the mix and it’s no fun.Show lessJaison710
