  • Used to like this game, it’s now flawed & NOW FULL OF ADS

It has obvious flaws, yes. They are detailed in many other excellent reviews. But the recent upgrades have ruined it. First, I can’t get back to my original game, which featured a different layout that I love. Second, I can’t recreate some things in settings-and I’m not computer illiterate. And third, and by far the most egregious of changes, IT’S NOW FULL OF ADS. EVEN IN THE MIDDLE OF A GAME! I’ve just suffered through three ads trying to get through one game!!! I used to play this daily. I’ll check back in a month, if it’s the same I’ll delete it permanently. I downloaded it again-now it indiscriminately doesn’t allow me to move certain perfectly legal 5’s. This has happened several times and to a friend as well. Giving up. Deleting it permanently. Changing rating to 1 star.

  • Okay but several programming bugs

This game is just okay - the program favors the computer so that make it frustrating to play. There is a definite bias towards the opponent in rolling doubles, in hitting unprotected pips, and in dice numbers that consistently protect the opponent. A 90% hit rate is not statistically possible, yet it happens without fail. Rolling double sixes multiples of times at the end of the game also consistently occurs to assure the computer wins In addition the graphics routinely lose their integrity and the pips are displayed as tiny specks. The user is required to restart the game to correct the graphic. The game itself freezes up for no apparent reason, and there are instances when it will not allow you to make a move that disadvantages the computer. It’s like playing checkers with your dad… openly cheats in front of you but you can’t do anything about it. I like playing backgammon but am annoyed that this game isn’t programmed for fair play. Why can’t it just be a level board game?!

  • Brings Back College Memories

I played backgammon every day in college in the 80s. After graduating I had less free time and no one to play. I tried to get my kids to learn the game, but they are not interested. I downloaded this app to use during a long flight. Now I am hooked. Several nights a week I sit on my porch, smoke a cigar and play a few games. It is a good representation of using a real backgammon set. It is also a good way to learn the game.

  • Entertaining Game

Fun game but the computer gets all the breaks and doubles. The computer throws doubles at least once every five rolls. My token is hit at least 10 times as many times as I hit the computer’s token. I roll 1’s, 2’s and 3’s and the computers rolls 4’s, 5’s and 6’s. The game would be more fun if the odds were more even. The computer also wins 4/5 rolls to start the games. The worst part is that lately the ads appear during games rather than just between games and appear every 4-5 rolls. If this continues, I’ll delete the app.

  • 10 lb Bass

I think the computer gives its self a lot of doubles at very critical times. It also seems to very frequently give it’s self just the right number to capture during end game. For me, It is fun to try and overcome this disadvantage. Update The higher you get in the levels the more blatantly the app cheats. Example- in close games, you get low rolls the app gets multiple doubles. Totally unfair. Dice rolls should be random.
    Update-
The app has gotten worse. It hesitates then slowdown. Now ads appear approximately every 4-5 rolls. When the ad is finished the game screen goes blank. This used to be a fun app. Not any more.

  • Crashes every time (update of update)

Have yet to complete a game without a crash. In other words, have yet to complete a game period. Also, have to hold the board upside down to get home board correctly oriented (you should be casting off men from the board on your side, not the opposite side). After resolving the above issues, I enjoyed this app for a good long while. I like the board interface over others.

Unfortunately, it is now so overly laden with ad interruptions, most of them really loud and annoying, it is no longer worth opening and I am deleting it. Too bad they don’t offer an ad free version and one you can use as a regular BG board without both players having to sign into the Game Center.

I see they do offer an ad free version.

  • Ad overload!

I have been playing this game for a long time and have enjoyed it, I am currently at level 22 and about 2/3 of the way to level 23 and suddenly ads started appearing in the middle of play which it has never done before, they would pop up in the middle of piece movement and it happened at least 10 times in one game. If this is how its going to be then I’m not playing this anymore!

  • Too Many Ads

I’ve been playing this game daily for years. Very loyal to it. Recently, more ads began popping up. You can be playing an opponent and it takes you from the board to an ad. Or when searching for an opponent and one is found, it goes to an ad. 9 times out of 10, by the time you finally get to the game your opponent is gone, more than likely because they got tired of waiting for you to join. This morning I’m playing against the computer and with every other move, an ad pops up. In my opinion, this was once the best version out there, but now it has become almost intolerable. So sad. Will be looking for another.

  • Used to be fine, now very buggy

I used to enjoy this game immensely, but over Moves by me or the computer sometimes take 20 seconds to execute, and for a while I had only half a keyboard to type this review, making it impossible to do so. Other issues; unable to log in as a user, the game fails to start properly, freezes, and all of this requires a phone restart or app refresh. Refreshing is usually successful. I keep my phone charged and updated, so not sure what the problem is. The past few months there’s been an increase of ads, sometimes 2-3 at a time.

  • Hmm. Not like playing a real opponent and very few people play live.

    1. Computer wins at least 90% of opening rolls. 2. On the Hard level, computer receives a great number of double rolls. 3. The opening roll is never doubles. It’s just not randomized and has become very predictable. It was great to get back into the game as I haven’t playing since university, but it is now annoying and a bit boring in this application. Deleted!

Update: I put the app back on and am using it to increase skill. There may have been an update because I didn’t have ads the first go round and now there are many. I get it, it’s “free”. Medium level likes to keep you at about 70-71% win. It will even give itself many doubles to keep it there (it seems) or take out any open pip…all the better to hone skill for a real opponent. I’m a tad competitive. I’ll keep it for a bit.
