  • Full screen ads are out of control.

The app is unusable half of the time due to full screen apps that randomly capture the screen when reading an article. There is no way to dismiss them and at other times, the user is redirected to the App Store.

With the horrible user experience on the mobile app and the inability to view the website without disabling basic pop up window blocking, it is no longer worth the trouble to view MDN content.

Hello, we have terminated the third-party ad network that was serving those takeover ads (these are usually the result of rogue advertisers, not the ad network themselves). Please give the site another try as we've eliminated the issue. Also, if you can, please edit your review accordingly. Thank you!
  • useless on i7

terrible experience on iPhone 7. uninstalling!
  • Usable by Virus Level Pop-Up Advertising

In sorry, but he website is unusable due to pop ups and it won't let you use the website if you block them. So you download the app to try and use the content and that ALSO HAS POP UPS WHICH CONSTANTLY TAKE YOU OUT OF THE APP AND INTO THE APP STORE.

Dear MDN, this has been a problem before. You promised to sort it out. You did briefly sort it out. Now it's worse than ever. I appreciate you are all making a living from the adverts for the small amount of work you do and the golden egg must be protected, but this doesn't happen on most websites. Find a way to fix this or your readers will leave.

  • Ads :(

Used this app for a long time. Great app only let down recently by very intrusive ads. Would pay to take them out!
  • What happened?!?!?!

When this app stops kicking me to the App Store when I haven't clicked anything, I'll give it 5 stars again. I understand the need for ads, but this is incredibly annoying!!!!!!

Getting kicked out to the App Store has gotten me so p***ed that I came back to write again how absurdly annoying it is. Especially because when you hit the "back to macdailynews" button, it only loads a blank page. If it's not fixed soon, I'll just end up deleting the App.

  • MDN loves ads

Content is pretty good when you can get to it. I can't EVER comment on articles with this app. Doesn't work. And lately, it randomly sends me to App Store apps while I'm trying to read. Very aggravating. But lately, when I try to return from the App Store, I get a blank screen, and have to dump the whole MDN app to recover. Sometimes more that once. In conclusion, for an app who's job is to allow me to read and comment, it's a failure.

  • Repeating notifications Ads galore

The app constantly repeats notifications. This is a well-known developer bug and there are loads of articles on how to fix the issue. Considering this app has been out since last December, it's rather disappointing that MDN hasn't resolved it. Considering the insane number of Ads that the App serves, there should be plenty of Ad revenue to cover the time to fix the notifications bug. I'm once again uninstalling from my iOS devices and Perhaps try again in a couple of years. What a shame. Back to MacHash.

  • Amateurish

The app is up to version 4 and one of the big "features" MDN has put in it is Landscape Rotation on iPhone, for nested comments.

Really, this is a web app, and not a sophisticated one at all. I should be able to read nested comments either Portrait or Landscape but once you get 4 or 5 comments down, it becomes a vertical string of one or two words per line and virtually impossible to read. This is 2016. We are using smartphones. This is a poor excuse for an app on a smartphone.

I know of plenty of web apps that can display nested comments that are easily readable. This one should be no different.

For all of the sass the MDN editors have, and the ads I see that support MDN, I expect a much much better viewing experience.

  • Ads make App Unreasonable

This used to be a decent app for Apple News, now it has lost anything it had going for it. Originally it was a much nicer way to navigate articles than via the web, now it loads ads immediately whenever a user clicks to read an article. MDN has become far more about making money via ads than providing great content. In the short term I may still get some Apple news at MDN via the web. But for the much longer term, I'm switching back to MacRumors.

  • Too many ads, auto redirecting to app store

I like the content in the app, but recently, the app keeps automatically redirecting to the app store as if I clicked on an ad, even though I didn't click on any of the ads. Needs to get fixed.
