  • Difficult to use

The app measures food sometimes in grams, sometimes in cups and sometimes in ounces, and the measurement choices seem to be completely arbitrary. For instance, crackers are measured in grams, not pieces. Tap water is measured in specific units (16.9 oz for example) not by the single ounce. This makes it very difficult to gauge what you’re eating. Also the variety and quantity of branded foods are really lacking. It’s too bad because this is the only app I’ve found to track daily totals. The app definitely needs refining.

  • Search too hard

This is an OK app but it doesn’t have half of what I’m looking for as far as food selections especially if it’s restaurants. And too many times it’s telling me that what I’m trying to get in there the box will have higher values than what they’ve got in their app, so why bother putting it in the app. overall it’s help me so far but I’m looking for a new app that’s better as far as food options. Too bad they can’t get the same database that the app Lose It! has because it has 99% of what I’m looking for.

Linny, we focus on providing research-grade, comprehensive nutrients. This is important for people with kidney disease who watch phosphorus and water intake as well as other nutrients that many apps do not provide. When you get a warning, it is because the food manufacturer or restaurant has not provided nutritional information that you may need. We do have hundreds of thousands of foods in our database. We are sorry you can't find what you are seeking. We can help you make searching easier. There are tips on our website or you may contact us directly at info@kidneydiet.com.
  • helpful app, 1 suggestion

What would be a huge help is to see a list of diary foods with phosphorus, potassium, protein, sodium, water, calories visible for each. Could launch from the daily measure screen. It would really help us learn what food is pushing the totals high or low for each measure. The app in general is very helpful and easy to use once a person learns their way around. Favorites is a very nice feature.

  • Great customer service

I recently wrote a scathing review because this app stopped working after I got a new iPhone. I had paid for a year’s subscription but only got to use it for 3 months. I contacted Apple support to report the problem & requested a refund. The Kidney Diet support team called me to try to resolve the issue. At this time am able to at least look up nutritional composition of foods for my dialysis patients which is all I need at this time. The representative was so helpful and kind. I truly appreciated her willingness to resolve the problem

  • Need to be able to delete food from favorites

When simply reviewing a Food for nutrition, it is automatically added to the favorite screen under suggestions. Once there it cannot be removed. Additionally, there seems to be a limit on how many foods can be added to that screen.
Need the ability to delete foods from the favorite screen that I am not interested in anymore. Additionally, simply looking up a Food to look at its nutritional Content should not automatically be added to that screen without confirming first.
Second suggestion when you scan a barcode, it comes up with the nutrition information. Many times it is different than what is on the package.
Allow the ability to manually add /delete /update items to the nutrition list so that when they are added to the diary, the daily totals are correct.
And one case of food I was scanning came up on the app and said there was zero potassium. however, the package indicated that there was 127 g of potassium in the product. I should be able to go into the app and correct that entry so that I can have a correct calculation for my daily total.

Foods do not automatically get added to favorites. You must have hovered your finger over the hollow heart which then added it to Favorites. This filled the heart red. To remove from favorites, simply press the heart again and the food will be removed. You may reach us directly at info@kidneydiet.com.
  • Really Great

I was diagnosed over 4 years ago and have been using three different apps trying to keep track. Downloaded this app and couldn’t be happier. The fact that I can keep track of everything in one place is amazing. The diary is easy to keep. Foods are easy to find. I was able to look up foods and add to my totals easily. I’m absolutely excited to finally have a solution to the anxiety of trying to find numbers for the dreaded 3 Ps. Phosphorus, Potassium and Protein are shown first and so easy to track. Thank you so much.

  • Wrong wrong wrong

Disappointed! Right after I set up my account and entered my first food item, Oatmeal, and what comes up is a whole string of oatmeal COOKIES!! If I had eaten oatmeal cookies, I would have entered oatmeal cookies. Then when I went to enter the serving size I had for oatmeal, it’s in grams! I don’t want to have to look up how many grams a half a cup is! Maker of this app, please go back to the drawing board.

Shuggie, there are literally hundreds of thousands of items to choose from in KidneyDiet with comprehensive, research-grade data. Sometimes a bit more of a description helps narrow the search. Adding "cooked" to your "oatmeal" search brings up plenty of options that offer both grams, cups, half cup measurements, etc...Please contact us at info@kidneydiet.com so that we can help you.
  • If you have CKD…

If you have CKD you need this to track your daily intake! You can enter your own limit of phos, sodium potassium, calories and protein. It subtracts it from your daily intake which we appreciate so much! The only thing is that it has an outdated look.. pictures would have been a nice addition and editing the amount of serving of an item (maybe I just haven’t figured it out, its just a preset setting of certain servings) but it does it’s purpose which we appreciate the developer very very much. May Allah bless you in this life and in the next.✨💕🤲

Lunaanahata, thank you for the great review! We appreciate the feedback. There is a scrolling list of serving sizes when available and also the ability to edit the amount of the serving to be a fraction of or greater than one serving. Please feel free to contact us directly at info@kidneydiet.com.
  • Would be 5 stars if…

This is a GREAT app. Does almost everything I need. Would have given it 5 stars if it would total carbs for the daily totals also. You have them in the individual item nutrients list.

Many kidney patients are diabetic (my husband is) so monitoring carb intake is important as well. Please add this to the daily totals.

Also wish you could choose measurement of oz instead of being forced to use grams. Personal preference.

Thank you for this great review! KidneyDiet does offer more insight into nutrient counts, including carb intake, when you email your Daily Diary to yourself. In that view, you will see more nutrient info tallied per day. If you need help using this feature, please contact us at info@kidneydiet.com.
  • Upseller

You can see a few things that seem to be helpful, but you cannot test drive the app. If I had been able to see what was available, I might have purchased this, but all you see is “click here to upgrade”. I have CKD, and diet plays a part of that, but this app won’t help anyone, because if it was a great app, they could easily provide a week trial, and we would try it and buy it.

    Developer Response

The app has a built-in free trial period of all features for two weeks. After you have tried the app for those two weeks, you can then decide if you'd like to upgrade or not.
