  • Extremely poor customer service.

I had used this app for two years with no issues and was very satisfied. I operate in the James and Chicahominy River area of Va. Late Oct 23 while underway I noticed that the area that I had coverage for was now not covered at all. All there was was the background color used for land. I submitted a support request to Wartsila Customer Support. I received a prompt reply, was given a case number, and asked to provide a screen shot of the problem area, which I did. I received a reply Nov 1 thanking me for my picture, and that my issue was forwarded to the cartography dept for investigation. That is where all communications ended. It is now Apr 2024 and I have received nothing from customer support, in spite of sending several e-mails requesting an update. I’m getting ready for this years boating season and am having the same coverage problem in my cruising area. I cancelled my Wartsila subscription and am giving Savvy Navy a try.

  • Seems like abandoneware

Used to be great, but after being acquired I’ve not seen any updates to the main program. Charts changed from being single purchase to subscription. I’m fine with that, but my last sub update in December is not recognised by iSailor and my emails to support have gone unanswered. Look elsewhere.
  • Flat Earthers in Wartsila

Navigation between points in east and west hemispheres crossing the 180 meridian highlight a fatal flaw in this app. Approaching the meridian there is no chart display beyond the 180 line, just a black screen.

Plotting a course across the meridian requires the user to scroll all the way around the world to plot the second waypoint. The course line between the two waypoints, even though they may be only 10 miles apart, is drawn all the way around the world.

The course and distance labelled on the midpoint of the course line is actually correct.

This is the only navigation app I have observed with this problem and must be fairly easy to solve, but Wartsila do not seem interested in sorting out the issue. Very disappointing.

  • Scam

Used to be a very good app before Wartsila bought it out. Now charging subscription for upgrades that they don't do. I recently found a low bridge that had been built 3 years earlier & it wasn't on the chart.
They don't reply to their FB page or give any support.
  • Comcast….

is the only other competitor of poor customer service. I have been trying to troubleshoot with wartsila for 3 months now, with multiple emails, calls, and internet inquiries about the Pilot AIS portion of this App not working. I had a response once, but maybe that Daria Petrova went on a 2 week Vacation. Hopefully she isn’t using iSailor to Navigate, because she’ll be on a perpetual 3 hour tour.

Essentially, don’t use this or Pilot Pro as a professional application. There isn’t any technical support since wartsila bought transas.

  • Bug

    Great App,
But I think they currently have a bug.
Using on iPad and with WiFi connection to VesperMarine to give AIS info.
App freezes and then screen goes black. Pressing the home button eventually gets iPad back to its Home Screen and then to iSailor with a dialogue box that requires acceptance.
    Very annoying

  • Restauration impossible des cartes achetées

Nouveau iPhone 14, impossible de me connecter à mon compte. Pas de lien avec mes achats antérieurs. Application inutilisable.
  • Exceptional

I first started using this on a brand new iPhone 4. Since then, I’ve travelled many thousands of miles with this app on numerous vessels. I often use it as a primary navigation system because it’s far superior to the majority of dedicated systems and my eyes are now attuned to it, to the point that other interfaces seem wrong.

It has slipped in recent years. Customer services have taken a dive off a cliff, the subscription service seems unreasonably priced considering that the parent company makes plenty of money by selling fancy things to rich people, and I’ve encountered a couple of very minor glitches in the data the app has reported at very low boat speeds (under 2 knots over ground). Even considering these disappointing developments, it’s still a 5 star app IMHO.

If the prices were halved then I’d use more of the subscription options, but even without paying anything for chart updates it remains an exceptional tool which I use every day. I only pay for chart updates as needed, when I’m planning to venture out of my local area into waters where I require accurate data due to a lack of local knowledge, and am happy to pay for that service at those times. I also find the tide service and sailing guides to be useful when I’m exploring further afield around NZ. If those services were half the price, I and many of my friends would probably spend more as we’d be inclined to remain subscribed to the additional services and to keep the charts updated as soon as updates are available.

Like I said, despite the cost, it’s still a 5 star app. It’s actually priceless when you consider how reliable and intuitive it is, compared to any of the digital or analog alternatives.

So, with that glowing review, can I please have an iSailor banner and a full lifetime subscription to all its services? I’ve convinced dozens of mariners to use it over the years… I’ve been a pretty good spokesperson.
