  • Garbage News Souce

A biased state broadcaster that wastes over $1B of Canadian tax payer money every year. Pure filth.
  • Too many ads

I get they need to make money off international users but the CBC has so many ads is basically unusable, you often have to watch 30s of an ad just to load an ad-filled article
  • the decline of the CBC

used to be the CBC was the glue that kept the country together. now it’s just a mouthpiece for official government policy. no alternative views, no balanced reporting. censorship of comments that are contrary to official line. if you are interested in the little local stories, there is still some value, but for anything bigger pretty much a waste of time. going to follow the lead of so many others and delete this one.

  • Shame on you

They will disable your comments when you speaking the truth or banned your account, keep misleading these people without use their own brains to think!
  • Video fail

Almost every time I try to play a video in an article I have to watch a commercial and then the news video doesn’t play. Just freezes and nothing. I don’t bother with video anymore.
  • Too many commercials and they’re long.

Each videos has a commercial of 1 min and 30 seconds that you can’t skip like YouTube. Even if the video you watch is 2 min long you will still have to almost watch a 2 min advertisement.
  • I love the CBC News app!

I live in the US, but this news app is like a “breath of fresh air” because all you get is unbiased, straight-forward news (similar to Reuter’s) WITHOUT all of the stupid commercial advertisements that render the majority of US news articles unreadable.

The advertisements on US news sites have gotten so bad that they cause the story’s content to “jump” constantly as ads are being loaded. I also love that I do NOT have to endure the endless, mind-numbingly stupid prompts instructing me to turn off ad-blockers in order to read an article!

CBC News provides important world news stories that load quickly on my iPhone. (The only time I might have an issue is when I click on a news article that’s linked to an American publication.)

It’s also good to see how the rest of the world views the US with all that’s currently been happening here!

CBC is the best! All of the rest (BING, Google, Apple News, et. al) don’t compare and ultimately drive me crazy with their inundation of ads, auto-play of video content and pay-walls thresholds.

CBC News is an excellent news app! Keep up the great work. (Everyone else, take note... this is how News should be presented!)

  • Not accessible for people with low vision

You are not serving over 1 million Canadians who have low vision and require large bold print.
Most organizations provide a “ View in browser“ option which brings up large bold print. When I asked my federal and local MP to add this to their newsletters, they did so within one day. How come CBC cannot or will not fulfil its accessibility and inclusion obligations As a crown corporation you are obliged to do this under the Accessible Canada act. If I do not see an improvement soon, I will go through the CBC ombudsman.

  • CBC app user

This app seems to have more ads than I remember from some time back. But my main complaint is that it seems to do a lot of background activity that depletes my iPhone 6s battery causing more cycling to be needed. I have all background activity choices turned off. I recently deleted the app and then reloaded a few days later but after a few days the same thing is happening. My senior software engineer son told me it must be buggy and to delete it, which I will do next.

  • Not worth it for the invasive ads

I used to use this app daily, but now I’m getting interrupted by super invasive full screen video ads that I can’t close?! That is where I draw the line. App deleted. I know ad revenue is important but that is unacceptable.
