  • Misleading and too expensive.

The description says when you install and register you will have the KJV Bible free and access to 40 Bibles, commentaries, dictionaries.... Yes, combined. The free Bibles are not standard. Some of the free resources are decent but many are bible-reading plans. The Bibles for purchase are expensive. (At least throw us one bone like the NKJV or NIV.) This is why I deleted this app years ago and nothing has changed, and the technology is not much better. Some of the other Bible apps have much better start-up resources and technology. Deleting this one again.

  • The Best Bible app!

I have been using this program since I had my PalmPilot back in the 90s. I’ve tried some of the other apps however I have not found them to be as useful and versatile as this program.
I love the ability to bookmark and highlight verses, add notes to verses, and autostudy verses.

One of the most useful features is the ability to sync my Bible to my devotional reading plan and my commentaries. This causes the commentaries to follow along with me and match whatever portion of the Bible I happen to be reading at the time. Then, there’s the tabbed panes, which allowed me to have many books open at the same time.

Some of these features are available in the Advanced Feature set which is a very minimal cost. However the basic program comes with many free books, and many of my friends have started using it as well. It seems anytime I use it in a class people start asking me which program I’m using.

Also, this developer has a buy once/own it policy. Once you buy a book or devotional through this app you own it. The books I bought when I was using a palm pilot 17 years ago........I still own! I was able to download them free when I upgraded to my iPhone and then my iPad several years later.

By far the best Bible app.

  • This is why I’m a loyal user of PocketBible

I have used various versions of this app since the Palm Pilot days of the 1990s. I have had continual access to the NIV bible translation that I bought then through all of the different platforms and upgrades, along with dozens of other translations and commentaries. This is a tool that I have used weekly, usually daily, for about 20 years. I can’t say that about too many other apps.

The original developer is still leading the charge. He is creative, innovative, and knows his stuff. He thinks carefully about how people use the software, and is regularly making helpful improvements that accelerate our study of the Word.

One of my favorite features of PocketBible is the personal notes, bookmarks and highlights. Notes that I added to a verse while in seminary in the 1990s are still there today, helping me to see how God has continually been working in my life.

Now I have literally 5000 of these personal notations that give this app the feel of my very own well-worn print Bible with lots of underlining, highlighting and notes scribbled in the margins. Plus, it’s all always available on all my devices! With this latest update, I can easily (and quickly) search through these notes (e.g. search “barnacles” to find that C.H. Sturgeon illustration I added many years ago).

This is why I’m a loyal user of PocketBible.

We love you too, Gary. :-) Thanks for sticking with us for so many years.
  • The best Bible app!

I have been using this Bible app since it was available on a Palm Pilot! I loved it then, and it worked flawlessly on that device. When I found it on the iPhone I tried it and found it just as stable and full-featured as the previous version. I was amazed that all my book purchases from a dozen years ago came right across to the new device as well! Recently, they have updated this app to improve the user friendliness of the app, and it is indeed a great improvement. I have many Bible apps, but this one is the best by far!

  • Favorite Bible has fallen from grace

I have been a long time user of this Bible app. So frustrated by the latest revision. Performance on my iPad is ridiculously slow. Access to notes almost unusable, as delay “searching” for just my simple list of notes runs away resulting in long waits. And, to make matters worse, the design layout makes it too easy to hit a button on the left while editing, which takes me back to square one trying to find my note to edit. Then editor starts at front of document. And on and on and on... performance and design is sooooooooo bad. Please, return to your roots with innovation and a return to a compelling user experience!!!!!

  • New upgraded - Not sure I’m a fan anymore

I have been a pocket Bible user since the PalmPilot days. It has always been my go to app for my iPhone. I’m struggling getting used to the new version. I miss that I can no longer automatically log into the website from within the app. Now I have to look up my user ID and password somewhere. Hope I have it in an old email. But this morning I was really getting into my study and the Lord was speaking to me and I wanted to look up the Greek/Hebrew for the word study I was doing. I got distracted with the disappointment that my NASB with Strongs numbers no longer works. I no longer have the ability to click on the word and see the Greek and Hebrew. I’m so disappointed and distracted this morning. I’m having to revert to the Bible hub app. Frustrated.

You've never been able to log into the website from within the app, but we do log into your account on our server using the login credentials you enter in the app. Once you register the app or set your customer ID and password in the app, you don't have to enter that information again. With respect to your NASB with Strong's numbers, it, too, works the same way it did before. If you cannot tap on Strong's number and go to the dictionary, you probably don't have the dictionaries installed. Just download them from your account. If you don't see the Strong's numbers, it's possible that you have them turned off. There's a button on the toolbar that has a Greek alpha and Hebrew alef character. It toggles those numbers on and off. Try tapping that to toggle them back on. On your iPhone, the button may be on the extended area of the toolbar which is to the right of the toolbar you can see on the screen. Swipe from right to left over the toolbar to see the additional buttons. When you have trouble like this, contact tech support and we'd be happy to help you. Obviously we haven't intentionally changed the program to make it not work for you. :-) We'd be happy to help.
  • Still my Favorite

This is still my favorite Bible App, and like many others have used it since my Palm days. I guess I’m one of the odd ones out there, but I much prefer “turning the page” by swiping left or right. I realize we now have the option of scrolling or swiping, but when swiping, sentences at the top & bottom tend to get cut off. I find it much easier to memorize a chapter of scripture when I see the chapter by pages, not one long continuous scroll.

  • Love it again

The first iteration of this version took away some very useful navigation functionality. To the developer’s credit, they listened to user feedback and deployed an update that implements the old functionality…in even easier-to-use, very iOS-ish, multi-finger gestures. Kudos! The best Bible study and cross-reference app is now even better.

  • Horrible...fixed

I am am impressed. Not only did i get a direct response, i got acknowledgement that others had the same complaints. Presto, here’s a fix. Still seems like version 4 fixed things that weren’t broke, but I am not the only customer here. Disregard previous curmudgeonly comments. —“How do i get the old version back? The old search results and swiping up/down to change books were the tools i found most effective. The new system is so time consuming I think I need to go app shopping again.”

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. The new search results attempt to help you find what you're looking for without having to master the nuances of predicate calculus, which is what the previous version required. One of the things we'd like to add to the new search results to make them even better is an index down the side that would let you more quickly find the results you're looking for. The swipe up/down to change books was one of the most hated feature of the old "touch zone" system. When we eliminated that, to the relief of a large number of people, we didn't realize how many would be upset. So that feature is making a comeback in version 4.0.2 which should be out soon if it isn't already. Thanks for taking the time to offer some feedback.
  • Still a great app, but I keep waiting ...

I’ve been using PocketBible since the old Palm Pilot version. In that version, I could select single words or phrases to highlight. It really surprises me that the iOS version doesn’t have that capability. Many times I don’t want to highlight the whole verse.

I do like the features in the new version. It will take some getting used to, but it shouldn’t be a difficult adjustment.
