  • Update is horrible!!!!

Lost all kinds of functions!!! Took me a LONG time to figure out how to adjust text size or fonts, etc.

Lost all toggle controls (can’t move from book to book anymore without having to go to a menu button and select a different book!!!!). I really love and use that function, now you’ve taken it away, and even seem to proud about it. You shouldn’t have taken that out. PLEASE put it back!!! 😢

Why does everybody think its a good idea to totally change interface, making experienced users feel stupid and frustrated?

I’m sure you all worked hard on this upgrade, but you’re now no better than Microsoft in succeeding to totally redo the program while totally frustrating you’re previously happy users!

Oh bother! As you might see, I’m not happy!!!!

  • The jury is still out for version 4- revised

I’ll put the revision here at the top:
Thanks, Craig, for your quick response.
The look and feel are different, and I’m not as young as I used to be, so change takes work. It will take me a while to get used to the lack of the old navigation touch zones, but I’ll get it.
If I run across things I can’t do, that I used to be able to do, I’ll contact support. In the meantime, keep up the good work.

I’ve used this app ever since my palm pilot days, and I love it! However, when I opened the upgrade on my iPhone, I was surprised and not happy. It’s still a great app; now, I have to relearn how to use it. It also seems to have shifted some features I was used to to a subscription level. Bummer. This does not feel like the Craig who would respond personally when I had questions or issues.
I have spent a lot of money on bibles, commentaries, dictionaries, etc. for this app. Now I may have to pay a fee to get full use again? Maybe I’m missing something?
I’m definitely not going to upgrade my iPad yet, and compare the two versions.
Still a great app, but a “heads-up” would have been nice to all of us who have been loyal customers for years.

    Developer Response

Hi ChapApp. Craig here, replying personally to your questions and issues. :-) No features have been shifted to a subscription. All features that were in the free version before continue to be free. In addition, no features that were in the paid Advanced Feature Set have been moved to the AFS subscription. The additional features in the AFS subscription, such as full-screen reading mode and "autostudy today", are all new. Unfortunately, the trend of modern app distribution is toward users and software publishers no longer having control over upgrades. Most people have automatic upgrades turned on and get whatever the software publisher uploads to the App Store. If users ignore upgrades, the rapid pace of change of operating systems means that your old version of an app will very quickly stop working as the operating system itself evolves in ways that are incompatible with apps. This seems "normal" to us today but consider the fact that the "Windows Desktop" version of PocketBible was built in 2006 to be compatible with Windows XP using tools that were current around 1998, and that program will still run just fine today, 20 years later, under Windows 10. Meanwhile we can't even build (let alone run) version 1 of PocketBible for iOS, released in 2008, due to changes in the tools and operating system. Thanks for taking time to post a review. If you have any specific concerns about how to use PocketBible, please feel free to contact tech support.
  • Clumsy upgrade

I stopped using PocketBible several years ago as I found it too difficult to use. When I received the email about the upgrade to 4.0 my hopes were up that I would once more be able to use this app. I downloaded the app right away. It only took me a few minutes to realize that the user interface is still clumsy and non-intuitive. It shouldn’t be so difficult to figure out. Even the fonts and the appearance are glaring and remind me of dot matrix printers and the days of DOS. There are much better alternatives out there, such as Olive Tree.

  • Excellent Bible App

I have been using Pocket Bible for many, many years (I think about 10). I have, and have used other Bible apps, Utah I always come back to Pocket Bible. It’s very user friendly and gives everything I need in terms of Bible study and convenience. Looking forward to working with this new update.
  • Crashes every time...not anymore!

Here's the old, 1-star review from 6 years ago:

PastorJazz warned you, and now I am telling you: don't be surprised if you find, as we have, this product is not yet ready for distro. BIG disappointment.
    Intuitive
    Here's the new, 5-star review:

This time, after seemingly countless efforts, Craig and his team nailed it! What a beautiful end product this is. The Congratulations!operation is intuitive, the new design is beautiful, the selection panels are thoughtfully redesigned,...it's just better, period. I've used PocketBible fire years, but this is what I was waiting for. I have yet to discover a mistake. Beautiful.

  • Excellent New Release!

Excellent new release! This new release obviously took a lot of work and coding. The everyday features that I use are significantly better being more intuitive. Thank you for putting all the effort into this release. We now need to get the world to read ‘the Book’ so they can figure out how they can love one another.

  • Best Bible App

I have been using PocketBible since the Pocket PC version, and the app just keeps getting better. This latest version for iOS is no exception. The continuous scrolling combined with the ability to swipe by chapters (in the advanced feature set) is the perfect merge of the new and old navigation features.

It has taken many years, but the library of study materials I have built through Laridian over the years make this a platform that can’t be beat. Pay once for a book, own it forever on just about any platform. The way it links Strongs numbers in several version to my CWS Greek and Hebrew dictionaries puts in-depth word study just a few taps away. This is a serious tool for performing in-depth study of the scriptures and commentaries.

  • Fabulous Update

This update addresses many outstanding minor issues from the previous versions. In particular, the new scrolling method seems more natural and make reading a pleasure. Changes to the daily reading page cut out a few taps. The new “go to” navigation looks to be a time saver as well. Very impressive.
  • Consistently Good and Getting Better

I purchased most of my Bibles and books when I used the Palm Pilot (remember those) version of the program. The Bible is the Bible and never changes but the devices we use to read the Bible has changed over the years. I have appreciated Laridian giving us the ability to continue to use the Bibles and books we purchased so long ago with each new mobile device (Palm Pilot, Windows Mobile, and IOS). I currently use my iPhone and primarily my iPad Pro to read and study my Bibles and books and the new version of the software has significantly increased its usability. Nice work!

  • BEST Bible App Available

I have used this app since the early 2000’s. The bible’s and books that I purchased then, still work with the latest version of the app. I can use them on my PC, my Mac, my iPhone and my iPad! It is truly a worthwhile investment.

The latest version of the app is FANTASTIC! I was just thinking a couple of months ago that they needed to get rid of the tap zones and PRESTO, they did (not because of me of course). The zones worked great for past platforms but what they have done now is much better and is current.

I can’t speak highly enough about how impressed I am that they have protected my investment and continue to update the app.

If you are looking for a solid, reliable, current, and continuously updated electronic bible platform..... you have found it! Download it now and purchase some books. You won’t be sorry.
