  • Good app with problems, excellent broker

IBKR’s iPhone app is far better for trading and for checking portfolio, browsing options prices, and looking at the market with watch lists, than Robinhood’s or Fidelity’s. They’re what I use for watchlists and to peruse options prices, even if I’ll end up trading on other brokers’ phone apps. It’s miles better. As for the broker, IBKR Pro has easily paid for itself and migrating to it has been objectively profitable for me. This is because of its better access to markets and trading hours allowing me to place certain trades. I’ve also been happy enough with trade execution and commissions costs.

The problem: after reading reviews, I started paying closer attention to the prices I see quoted. The bid/ask is often just wrong, for dozens of seconds, updating with outdated prices, until it catches up with reality (as if it’s draining some queue backlog in a microservice). You’ll see the bid/ask and the last trade price be out of sync, the last trade price being, as far as I can tell, correct. I verified the price with other brokers. This is less big of deal for stocks than with options, of course.

  • Extremely slow mobile app not useful for mobile trading/scalping

So I tried based on recommendations from fellow traders assuming it’s going to be superior. We’ll really frustrated as a trader with 5+ year of experience on other platforms. You cannot trade efficiently without subscription to one of their feeds because you’ll get a lot of notifications/popups. Deposits? Have to jump thru the hoops to get it cleared even $100 on hold for 4 days! Fees on options? Round trip at least 2.5$ per buy/sell. No charts/indicators at all! Guys seriously you’re from 10 years back with your platform!

  • WORST APP AND CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!

In order to trade options you have to hunt, peck, guess, go to customer service which left me on hold for 20 minutes then said sorry to make you hold..click. Hung up on me and never called back after confirming my account number, login credentials (didn’t like that), phone number and then they have no idea who I was. SMH

The prices aren’t matching up with think or swim or fidelity most of the time. It lags back seconds to minutes with not reason.

You try to chat with someone and it makes you log back in which takes you back to the same screen and then you try again to which, takes you back to login to start all over again.

It sends a warning that my options are going to expire at 10am but fails to tell you EST, CDT, PST, WHAT?

Go into your account and after hunting, pecking to get to your options won’t allow me to do anything nor give me a timeline when they are expiring.

I’ve been suckered into opening an account with these losers don’t be there next victim.

    RUN AWAY!

  • Real-time Options Data

I have been using the app from almost two years now. The user interface is a bit hard to understand for newbies but overall trading experience is very average. They have really good margin interest rates but as far as the app is concerned, it’s still glitchy. One of the major issues I have had in the past and still do is the real time options price data.

So the problem is the app does not show the real time data in the options chain with low volumes, it will show you the live “bid and ask” but the last price DOES NOT change for several minutes and one has to log in and log out sometimes to get that live price. So when you’re trying to buy or sell a contract in this app, you have to scroll up again to see “bid and ask” for the live price as the last price stays the same. Sometimes the difference is more than 30% between the last price and the live price. This does not happen on any other platforms except IBKR. By the time you put in the live price from “bid and ask” down in the limit price section, the live price has already changed which results in low capital gains or even worse.

I have brought this issue to the customer representatives twice in the last six months but nothing has been done yet although they have acknowledged this problem which tells a lot about the company’s seriousness to address the issues and provide the best service to their customers.

I seriously hope they address this issue.

  • Not good enough

They’ve added useless features like ESG, social sentiment etc, but not many actually useful features for trading that TWS has. The app itself is buggy and awkward for many things. The executives at IBKR should be fired for totally missing on the mobile side and generally on updating their tech stack to be visually appealing, easy to use, and most importantly free from bugs. This 23 billion dollar company has 4000x less App Store reviews than Robinhood, whose been around for only a fraction of the time. Maybe they just don’t want new customers, individual investors, or any young investors. It doesn’t make any sense, but I won’t be surprised if they are the Sears of brokerages down the line.

  • The best trusty broker

The login process is safe and not that hard. In case you lose your phone, somebody uses your computer or something, you will be glad there is top login security.

There’s been a lot of controversy about brokers lately. But ever since, I think IBKR have handle things best. Fast and easy shares transfers, voting rights... If you read in between lines and have pickup what Thomas statements and actions are about, you’ll know he's given a lot of transparency to investors and users ever since the controversies started.

  • Worst app ever

Everything about this app is a pain.
Performing ACH money transfer was a nightmare. First I had to link my bank. After doing that nothing happened. Had to login on their website to complete that. To verify my bank account linking was another story. Started on the website but apparently they didn’t like it. They asked me to go to the app to complete that.
And what is with the endless verification of everything you try to do on the app? It makes the app very user unfriendly.
I have two accounts. I had to request for permission to trade in my account. Apparently permission on one account does not carry over to the other account. My accounts were transferred from another broker that sold out to IB. How did IB think I was trading with the previous broker?
The app is so user unfriendly that I am considering moving to Fidelity or Schwab.

  • Bad app and horrible service

I wanted to try out IBKR and created an account. I funded some money and subscribed to market data. Yes you have to pay for the data where most big brokers do not charge.
After paying also the options chain feed does. Refresh with latest data. Called the customer care and they said they are also seeing this issue and will fix and come back.
Next day called again and nothing. So I have never been able to use the market data but guess what. They charged me for that. And blatantly denied a refund since they think I used the data. Transferred my money out and closing the account.
Will never recommend anyone to IBKR.

  • Too many hoops

To deposit money I had to get two different security codes. I also had to put in my account name. Also, I left the app to reference something and I came back and had to start from scratch. Every time you leave and come back you get kicked to the main screen which is very annoying.

They go overboard with security here to the point where you just want out of the app. It’s a frustrating experience with every single use.

I mainly use TD, which feels like it has an appropriate balance between safety and ease of use. Once my stock runs, I’m running my funds back to TD.

  • IBKR the company vs IBKR the app

I want to distinguish between the two aspects. In terms of the value proposition and the particular niche IBKR serves for investors that handle more trades and care about things like ADR vs OTCs, IBKR has been a godsend. Though they’ve always indicated that they’re primarily serving institutional investors and judging by just how unfriendly their app experience is, I almost get the impression that they want to weed out investors who aren’t worth it for them by making everything so barebones and making no effort to educate users or explain certain terms etc. IBKR is the design equivalent to an SEC company filing, tiny print, jumbled lines, no variation, no highlighting important content.
