  • This one was rushed out the door….

The 3.0 update introduces a lot of slow response time for many functions on my iPad 3. That should not be! Please fix it. Mackie.

This update includes some useful feature, one of which is a nice recording matrix so you can assign which channels to record, separate from the main mix. Nice addition!

But there are still major things missing. For example, I need the ability to save “Snapshots” (complete mixer status) so I could have Aux send levels set independently of main “LR” mix levels. That way, users can have monitor mixes or effects send mixes set up (via Snapshots) so that they will not change or effect the main mix being sent to the PA. For now, the “Channel Safes” don’t allow this. Bummer, dude.

And… users need to be able to initiate snapshots quickly (especially solo acts). Right now you have to go into a menu, select the snapshot for recall, then click OK to implement (FOUR screen taps). Why not quick and easy buttons on the top menu so you can initiate snapshots on-the-fly, with just one tap?

  • Cool new features but has bugs.

I have been using the 1608 for two years and and have loved it. All the while hoping to see the new features that finally came. I have only played around with the new app on one of my iPads and haven't actually updated the firmware yet. Frankly I'm a little afraid to after reading all the reviews. I noticed right off the bat the lag between touching a button and the page actually changing. Sometimes as much as 3 seconds.

    I use an ipad 2 version 7.1.1

I found a bug right away that causes a crash every time. Starting in offline mode for the dl32r then switch to the the dl1608 without closing the app open the page where view groups are assigned and buttons for groups E and F are still there touch one and of course it crashes. Also if you open the 1608 first then switch to the 32r. on the view group assign page only groups A,B,C, and D appear. Until I completely close the app and re open it.

I'm tempted to just run my show one ipad short and continue using the old version until I know some of the bugs have been fixed.

The dl32r is exactly what I have been waiting for but I will not be buying one until I can trust it.

  • This should be a separate release from 2.0

It is a horrible idea to make this an app that automatically updates from version 2 to version 3, especially since it involves a firmware update that makes anything running version 2 NOT WORK!

I went to a gig and opened the 3.0 version on my iPad Air. It told me I need to do a firmware update to use it. Luckily I am one of those people that reads the fine print, because if I didn't I would have lost the ability to use the ipad 1 that is the main ipad I use with this mixer. Forever. Since, the ipad1 is not supported by this app.

Mackie should follow the example of Yamaha and make the different versions of their apps separate downloads.

I arrived on-site to discover this auto update; which nearly killed my show and destroyed my whole monitoring system. For all I'm looking forward to in this new version, it is a real wrench in the gears right now!

Great new features. In fact, I was so impressed after downloading the 3.0 software that I even ordered a DL32R to replace my 1608. Before the 32R arrived, played a LOT with the 3.0 software to get ready for it. I took our band's most current 1608 show and tired to save presets, but channels 1-3 could not be saved and I was ejected from the app. The 32R arrived today and I was able to bring it up with my prepared show. So far so good. Now I was extremely excited about being able to have a disk drive hooked up for recording. So I went to bestbuy and bought a brand new 2Tbyte drive. Hooked it up so I could format it as Mackie suggests, but every time I plug in the hard drive to the USB port, the 3.0 software fails and dies. Obviously Mackie did not perform proper QA before they released the 3.0 app. And I will agree with others that it is slow. Make an adjustment on the ipad for anything and there is a lag before the hardware makes the change. Come on Mackie. You were in too much of a hurry and did not do your proper testing. Customers - be patient and wait for these guys to fix Master Fader 3.0

  • Takes some getting used to

I also own a DL1608. I noticed a bit of a lag which I do hope gets fixed.

At first, I was mad because so much had changed and there was no real warning that it was going to change. If I had been on a gig, it would have been a disaster. I am learning and liking the improvements in accessing various controls. It seems a bit easier to find things and select them, especially while trying to play drums at the same time.

The technology is amazing in that things like subgroups can be added to existing hardware. I keep looking for an updated user's manual so can tell which new features are indeed available for the hardware I own and which are only for the 32-channel unit.

  • Caution!!

    Be warned!
I have flipped through the app, and though I am sure it's absolutely great, it's fairly complicated compared to the last version and needs some studying..

We are using a DL1608 for a bar/music venue that has music up to 4 nights a week. We have 4 sound guys that rotate out and sure enough the app updated itself last night right before a band was setting up and the sound tech couldn't find his way around the app!

There is no manual for the new update that I can find. I'm sure there will be in the next few days, but this really made things tough for us to be thrown a new app with no support for it!!

With Master Fader v2, we were able to have multiple sound techs with only a basic education, but I'm worried that they will all have to go through a lot of training to catch up. I'm worried it's lost its intuitiveness, and I wish I could revert back to V2 for this sake!

I love the iPad mixing, and I love what Mackie has done so far, but this was a curveball.

  • This was made for my job

I own a entertainment production company is very hard as it is ... but for me have to bring two 32 channel mixers. To a show all the time that did not need it ... that many channels was just too much.

Now that this came out. I believe I can make more money much quicker and easier than I did in the past...

I give all of you at Mackey around of applause. keep up the good work ...

    thank you. CEO. Mixmasterz entertainment
PS if you can figure a way for me to use two of these mixers link them together because I have four of your mixers thank you

  • Possible Bug

Was working great with IOS7. Having updated to IOS8.02 I am now getting disconnection and reconnection synchronization issues every couple of minutes. Have swapped out iPad and router, so assume that it is IOS compatibility issues of some sort
  • Excellent

Absolutely brilliant! This app enables you to wirelessly mix with the Mackie DL1608. It gives you total control of the mixer and all it's features. The best bit about it, is that you can assign great EQ presets to whatever you're putting into the mixer. No more guessing what frequencies you should use when mic-ing up a drum kit etc... You can also save snapshots and recall them in seconds. I used this when sound checking multiple bands with contrasting settings and the transition between acts was seem-less due to this function :-)
