  • I like it

I find it’s pretty good. I prefer the paper magazine where I know my progress through it (yes, I do read cover to cover) and am pleased that GB&U is included now. The app lets me keep up to date while I’m on holidays and that’s important to me. I’m a mechanical wrist watch enthusiast and these articles, and adverts, are gladly devoured. Advertising is part of the magazine and I like them to be included in the app version. I’d like a instant gauge as I’m reading the app of how far through the magazine I’ve reached. Car magazine is an absolute bible for me, whichever version, and I can’t put it higher than that.

  • So much worse

I have been reading Car since the first issue and love the content and, until the March issue, the layout.
Now the optimisé-layout-for-the-iPhone completely spoils the layout, you just get one column at a time.
I read twenty magazines on my iPad Pro - nineteen of them show the whole page which I can zoom into, Car doesn’t. Car may think it has the right answer, I am on the side of the 95%.

  • Best car mag in the world

Loyal reader for 55 years. Glad to have the digital edition available day and date here in the U.S.
  • Not good enough

Optimising for iPhone and not having an iPad version is a shortcut/cost saving that doesn't work for me.

Why do I keep getting subscribe pop up pages on opening when i am already a subscriber ? ....just annoying.

Bauer Media is a big group so I would have expected something better than this. It has potential but fails in small details. To be fair they have corrected back issue content errors when I complained about not getting what I paid for but it implies that there is no proof reading of the digital version.

I am not sure if I will continue to subscribe for this or just buy the magazine at the Airport from time to time if the content interests me. A shame as I have been reading this on and off for 25 years.

  • Fantastic move to digital

I was a long hold out for the excellent print edition and the fading art of print media in general, but... they’ve done such an awesome job with the digital version that I’m no longer going to the printed magazine. When my subscription comes up for renewal I’m planning to go all digital.
  • Prefer paper

Decided to be ecological and stop having the print version. Not really getting on very well with it. I find it much less appealing, and the fact it has to load every time you want to read seems to put me off casual browsing like I used to with print. Car Mag is the same degraded version of the wonderful mag I used to love until Bauer took it over. Sadly it has lost its heart, and is now written for air-headed adolescents who love only Porsches and BMWs. A subscriber for over 50years, it is trying my patience nowadays.

  • Digital edition

In the US this is very good. Don't have to worry about the
USPS Destroying it or losing it
    The articles are usually excellent
  • Optimised for iPhone = rubbish on iPad

Dear oh dear. This used to be a decent digital magazine. Optimising it for the iPhone has made it terrible for the iPad though. Font is far too large, and zooming out (as developer has suggested in response to a another review) is hardly a good solution - just leaves large white spaces either side of the text. I can’t see iPhones replacing print magazine, but tablets really can - it’s an area where iPads have a real advantage. This whole approach seems backwards to me. A shame, and I will be cancelling my subscription if it’s not sorted out.

  • So so

Not without it’s problems, this update. Switching to another app, and then back to this will display the current offer again, despite being dismissed previously. An an iPad, the font is huge, and it doesn’t look like there’s any way to change it.

    Developer Response

Hi there, Thank you for your review about the changes we’ve made to the latest app version of CAR starting with the March issue. Publishing a magazine digitally has many challenges, including optimising CAR for the different mobile devices that are on the market – iPhones old and new, iPads big and small, and many different Android devices. We’ve seen a rapid increase in the use of iPhones (and other smartphones) when it comes to reading CAR content, so we decided that starting with the March issue we’d design the app for the iPhone first, rolling that same build out to iPads and Android devices. One consequence was that the text was larger on the tablet edition. Now, in response to the feedback we have received, we’ve introduced a ‘zoom out’ functionality. If you update the March issue on your device, by redownloading it, you should find that you can make the layout of each article smaller, which in turn makes the text smaller and perhaps easier to read. Please try it and let us know how you get on. In the meantime, we very much appreciate your continued support. Should you need to contact us further, feel free to message us directly at appsupport_uk@bauermedia.com. With best wishes, Jim Foster Head of ePublishing CAR
  • Generally ok but so many mistakes on the digital editions!

Easy enough to navigate, but why oh why are there so many mistakes in the digital versions? For example this month (Issue 662 Sep 2017) I am reading the Velar article and one of the sections (Test 4) is a repeat of an earlier section (Test 2) of the article - and it is an entire page's worth of text repeated! Every month there seems to be something along these lines, often just comments for images - some more obvious than others, but really - does no one proof read these things?
