  • Quality work, but needs fixing.

As a long-time fan of the series, I can appreciate the attention to detail in both the game assets and story, even if the cinematic animations are a bit sub-par. The character voices are a great addition to the game, and I love the look and feel. Controlling 'mechs is a bit difficult on a tiny 4S screen, so I would recommend purchasing this game for an iPad if possible. Once they get the bugs worked out I'm sure it will be enjoyable to play. :)

  • Revised Review: no iCloud = fun

Revised review: TURN OFF iCloud OPTION!!!!!!!!
Kudos to the developers for writing back to me and recommending that I turn of the iCloud option. The game now works. It is an enjoyable, at times frantic, deep game. I am now having a lot of fun.

    Original review:
Since some of the reviews said it worked and were not having crash problems, I bit on the reduced $1 price and was burned. I have a relatively new device, 3rd generation ipad, and I cannot even start the first mission. Immediate crash when I press the "launch" button. My advice to anybody is to wait until the reviews consistently score better after an additional patch.

  • Terrible on iPhone 5

Cumbersome and unusable interface, frequent crashes, very limited gameplay.
I was really excited to play this game, but as disappointed in the extreme. The interface was cumbersome and way too small for the iPhone, or perhaps even the iPad Mini. A regular iPad may be better screen size. But that won't matter as the game continually crashes. I followed the developers advice and disabled iCloud as well as force quit most of my apps, and still it froze on the 5th mission half way through. I will be asking for my money back from the developer. Yes I know it was only a dollar, but this game isn't even worth it.

  • Wish it was turn based.

Three stars at $.99. Glad I waited. $.99 I can waste. I feel bad for all those who paid $9.99 for this buggy app.

I guess I'm old school, I prefer the thinking persons turn based strategy games, instead of these twitchy finger games with poor AI. I want the feel of the miniatures Mechwarrior. That I'd pay $9.99 for that! Then it would be easy to do multi-player.

As it is, when it's not crashing, the AI does a poor job at following orders. If you can even give the orders in time.

Could really use an instant action feature. Would love to build custom mechs and fight it out.

Still waiting for a good turn based mech game.....

  • Keeps Crashing

I want to like this game so much. I bought this for the iPad when it first came out. The gameplay was decent, even if the 'Mechs are barely distinguishable from each other. I suffered through the *really* bad voice acting until I reached stage 6, which crashes Every Single Time. And not conveniently at the beginning. No, it crashes at the exact same place, 3/4 way through the mission, every time. I have updated, deleted, reinstalled - nothing. Great idea, poor execution. Not even close to MechCommander in graphics or gameplay, and that game is over 10 years old.

  • Top Notch RTS!

What a fun game! I had forgotten the PC version and how much fun it was! I almost gave this a 1 star review due to the repeated crashing. It simply would not actually get to the game. Crash, crash, crash... Before deleting, I tried turning off iCloud sync and it hasn't crashed since. ICloud sync would be a great feature, but for now, turn it off and the game will work.

  • Battletech fan

I have been a battletech fan when they started with dice and paper. Just as tech grew I have played just about every on screen game battletech came out with. I am giving it 4 stars because this can grow to something more if game techs put their mind to it. Thanks for putting this out on iPad keep it up.

  • I want to love this...

I've played every BattleTech/MechWarrior game created. This game so wants to be MechCommander - which is not a bad thing! The iPad is a great platform for this type of top-down game. The game is lots of fun and quite entertaining, but some aspects are lacking:

    1) pathfinding leaves me wanting. Too many times I've lost a Mech because it got hung up on some random piece of the map. An option for Mechs with jump jets to take the most direct path might be fun too.

    2) maybe it's my fingers, but dragging 1x1 equipment to your Mech in the Mech bay is too picky. You need to be spot on to drop it right. If the majority of the pixels is on the grid, that's where I want it. I shouldn't have to line it up like I'm docking a shuttle to the space station.

    3) Give me the ability to add armor/armor types. Just like MechWarrior, I'd be willing to exchange firepower for some extra armor under certain conditions.

    4) LRMs are guided, not all hit, but some ALWAYS do. Mechs equipped with them couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if they were IN IT.

    5) I wish I could group certain mechs into a "shortcut" so I could dispatch them as teams rather than getting carpel-tunnel by rapid-fire selecting/deselecting units.

  • Now playable on iPad 1

I've ignored the app for a number of updates but having now added 1.1.2 back onto my iPad 1 it's great to see that it ran the whole first scenario without crashing. According to the note on start up, they've apparently downgraded some options on lower memory devices and this seems to do the trick, eliminating the frustrations from the initial release where it crashed at the drop of a hat.

The interface seems pretty intuitive, and I look forward to playing some more games of it which may well lead to the number of stars going up!

  • Mech commander

This is pretty much Mech Commander 2 on iPad.
Great game, lots of fun. I am playing thru for the 3rd time. The new mech lab is terrific and the AI has been fixed.

DFA (Death From Above) is a great way to disable enemy mechs and 1 pilot can do targeted head shots :)
