  • Immediately crashes, used to be great.

I’ve had this app for years and have used it on numerous TVs. but as of right now, it won’t even open. Why hasn’t this been updated since the iPhone 7?!
  • Disappointed

I have a new LG Nano90 with horrible presets for half the picture modes, especially “Cinema, “HDR,”” and “Filmmaker” which were way too dark and whites appearing pink-tan compared to a sheet of white paper held against the screen.

I thought this app was great at first, starting with calibrating the “Standard”mode first that changed to Bright 70, Contrast 70, and Color 62. No change needed for Aspect or Tint 0. But that’s all this app did, with no process for Backlight, Sharpness, etc.

Working the missing process for those on my own, I ended up with Backlight 70, Sharpness 30, and Warmth either C20 or Cool. But there were still too many other obscure settings that still left unacceptable picture quality variations between many of the modes, especially Cinema, HDR, and Filmmaker.

Bottom line, I gave up and reset *every* picture mode back to presets, and settled for most effective overall improvement across *all* modes just by changing warmth to C20 or Cool, which left me with acceptable variations I could live with depending on whether watching CNN, NFL, or a movie. Period.

Now I need to start over with some other product.
  • No longer works

More current HDMI connections do not seem to be supported, or maybe it's iOS version, iDevice model, so much is out of date in what this app officially supports. It used to be good, worthless now. Thanks for the support THX.
  • Easy video cast to TV

Old, sure, but it still works great! Easy to adjust bright and contrast, color, tint. Probably the best and most useful app I’ve downloaded in years. Super happy! Bravia TVs are just so bright and make my eyes hurt, but not with these settings! Never would have come to such a brightness/contrast lopsided setting as I have now if I didn’t have this app.
  • Amazing App

A really amazing app that exposes how messed up most of our A/V settings are. Great walkthroughs of how to make the appropriate adjustments.
  • Disappointed

Used to love this app and it was awesome. Got my 4K TV set and working awesome. Went to recalibrate after adding a new receiver and not getting an accurate Dolby vision calibration. HDR10 and SDR are fine. Dolby vision will not get an accurate color or brightness adjustment anymore. This app is desperate need of updating.
  • Any updates planned?

Three years is a long gap with no updates.
  • Helped me with brand new TV

New TV had so many modes - vivid, standard, gaming, pc, calibrated, calibrated dark.... this tool helped me to realize that calibrated was actually truly calibrated at the factory and the most accurate. Thank you!!!
  • Don’t let the outdated UI fool you...

THX is long synonymous with helping people get the most out of their theater. This free app is a godsend for anyone who wishes to get more out of their TV, which often ships with wildly inaccurate settings.

Before I start, let’s get the elephant out of the room. This app is rarely updated and it shows. It is neither optimized for latest iPhone and iPad screen sizes, nor have a modern, easy to follow user interface.

Another limitation is lack of HDR10 and Dolby Vision patterns. This app can help you set only SDR settings.

But if you are willing to overlook all that, you will find very useful tools for getting more out of your TV. To use it, you need to have one of the followings:

    1. TV set with AirPlay 2 support. Many new TVs have this feature, including LG, Samsung, and Vizio. Sony will be receiving the support shortly via firmware upgrade.
    2. Set top box with AirPlay 2 support, or Apple TV.
    3. Lightning to HDMI adapter for Phone or iPad.

Run the app, turn on the app, and enable screen mirroring with one of the aforementioned connections and you are good to go.

THX Tune-Up will present 5 patterns to help you calibrate aspect ratio, brightness, contrast, tint, and color, (Notably missing are patterns for color temperature, motion interpolation, and sharpness.) By using your iPhone or iPad’s camera, you can approximate some of these settings to close enough accuracy, certainly far superior to factory default setting or eye balling.

The app also has a couple of tests for setting up speakers, but I found them to be too basic.

Having said all this, yes, the app can be better. HDR10+ and Dolby Vision would be a start. Adding more test patterns and instructions (perhaps as In App Purchase?), as well as updating the app for new screen sizes, would be godsends. I would also love more THX trailers, particularly in 4K HDR.
  • Crashes on Launch

No longer usable, crashes immediately on launch on iPhone 8 Plus running 13.2.3.
