  • Why 30mb limit?

I love Backblaze for backups. I've been using it for a while, and it really saved me once.

That said, the 30mb download limit on the mobile app seems like an unnecessary restriction. Mobile phones do have more limited space, but I'm pretty sure 16gb is the minimum these days. If it's the cellular network usage that's a concern, an option to require wifi for files over 30mb could be considered. It would be nice if I didn't have to transfer everything through Dropbox and other services when I have everything on Backblaze already.

Simply due to that restriction the app deserves even less stars, but I like the overall service so much I could not bring myself to give less.

  • Letting Backblaze down

Great backup service. However, the app doesn't utilise Touch ID or even a PIN number. As a result, the app constantly "session timeouts" and has to refresh
  • Won't open

  • Needs a screen passcode lock

If you are like me and have a huge obscure random password, you want to save the login in the app (which you can do in settings). But you may want to require a simple 4-6 digit password like other similar apps do when the app opens. This should be an option in the app settings to prevent someone from picking up the phone and going through your stuff.

  • It’s OK but ….

It is a real pain not being able to sort the files by date or have a “recently added” area. Often when I am out and about, it is the file that I was just working on that I want to access and read/send and it is very time consuming going through the list alphabetically. A search function would also be really helpful and the ZipCloud app is a good example of the iPhone interface to an online backup done really well.

  • Great but not.

Not sure if the app needs an update but when I click "save login details" and come back later the app constantly crashes. Have to sign in every time for it to work. Also what's with the 30MB limit to download? I can understand on cellular data but even on WiFi? Apart from those it's a great app, easy to use and can see everything that I've backed up.

  • Missed Opportunity

I've been a Backblaze user for years, and have family, friends, and clients using it as well. This app crashed the first 4 times I launched it. It took awhile, but I finally figured out why. If you pull up the Control Center, even if you do nothing, it kicks you back to a login. If you do it while the app is downloading it crashes. And, once you do trigger a download you can't cancel, stop, or pause it. I also think the app syncs, or downloads, extremely slowly. I have a client on CrashPlan, and I can't help but compare their mobile app to this one. It's not even close. The missed an opportunity to provide a lot of functionality in a well thought out app, but the missed both those by a huge margin.

  • Good service. Weak iPhone app.

I've been using Backblaze for my personal machines and have installed it on ALL our office machines. The desktop app and service itself is pretty good. Some frustrations, like have to queue any files or folders you want to download from a backup.

This iPhone app, however, is WEAK!! You can't download any file that's over 30mb. Seriously?? That's a JOKE!! And you can't open a file you've downloaded with any other app until you preview it within Backblaze first. So what happens if BB doesn't recognize the app? Too bad, cant do anything with the downloaded file. It's useless.

Very frustrating experience, considering the purpose of this app is to access files you've backed up on other machines.
