As basic as it can be

Craig Federighi once said the reason Apple took so long to bring a weather or calculator app to iPadOS was because they didn’t want to make it unless they could add something to them that would make them truly stand out. Well with FreeForm, we got the long wait but no standout features. In fact barely any features at all. Remarkably it doesn’t even support pen pressure which is frankly unbelievable considering Apple have the Apple Pencil. Why would you make your own product work less well with your own app?

Not only that but it’s lacking other features like a ruler, the UI is cumbersome and you can’t organise boards.

Concepts is a far superior app and if it had real time collaboration which I hope it gets, it would blow this practically useless app out of the water.

Bugs

First of all, the app crashes unexpectedly quite a lot, especially when zooming into little spots when there are things over the board.
Another issue I have found, that is really inconvenient, is that you cannot make layers. This would be great, and quite simple to implement, I would think.

This app has great potential and I understand that it has just been released, and is still under development.

Thank you for your time

Great but has issues

I love the concept of this app, but it definitely needs further development.
For one, it’s very laggy and has a hard time keeping up.
The biggest fault for me is that it consistently crashes.
The major problem is that it doesn’t only crash itself, but my entire phone. I have an iphone 13 pro max, so this problem really shouldn’t be happening.

Multiple times throughout using it it will crash itself, other open apps, and shut my phone down. Borderline unusable.

Great For Working With Non Tech Colleagues

I work with others who are employed outside of my company, this is great for collaborating quick ideas without the "Do you use x? No. What about y? No What about ...".

While there are other more feature rich tools out there, this covers the bases and is V1. I look forward to more advanced features coming with future releases. Maybe a web version like Pages and Numbers for those non Apple users?

Palm rejection, rotating an quick undo needed

I tried to create a simple board and I got so frustrated. My hand resting on the screen changed my crayon colour, to undo you need to tap the arrow (most apps have two finger tap) and scribble is terrible.

Great app | Lags too much

This is exactly the app I need from apple to form ideas and have an endless room to brainstorm and gather things to creat connections. I love the simplicity and usability if the app but once I start building and adding things, the app becomes so laggy on my iPad Air 2021 and Apple Pencil 2. If there was no lag, I would love this app, but the lag makes me want to throw my ipad at a wall and give up on my projects.

I ❤️ Freeform!

I have only had PowerPoint in Microsoft 365 for 5 months. However, thanks to Freeform, it has made my science fair project for the next school year easier. I do not have to use a keyboard like PowerPoint does because I only use PowerPoint on my Chromebook for school, and computers have a keyboard. Well, thanks to Freeform, It does not make me feel tired. It also requires more work to get to PowerPoint. But, because Freeform is an application, it is easier. Also, my iPad is in my arm’s reach because I charge it on the lowest level of my house and it is usable downstairs or upstairs, depending on my overall energy level. I also do not have to login with an account, but I must use my school account to use PowerPoint. Freeform also saves my projects automatically, while PowerPoint requires more work, I also need less material and work. So Freeform has made my life easier to create school presentations. Thank you very much Apple Company for creating this application. You are the best Apple Company!

Some bug

There are still bug in the application. For example if you had fill the background with colour, when you want to overlay the background with another colour, the application would crash and shut down the app completely. I think it needs more testing. Also, if there are feature of erase using a selection box, it would make more sense than use object eraser.

I think they forgot to put in the shape recognition!

Apple why would you not add shape recognition to this like you have in the notes app. What a missed opportunity… and a bad decision on the part of the PM / UX / Devs to leave this out.
And no… your predefined shapes are not a substitute for this feature so don’t even try it…

Upgrades

App would be much better with the ability to change page colour, especially dark.

Also, the ability to disable the red underline for grammar in text boxes.
