Going okay-ish so far!

The app is working great on my 5th Gen iPad Air, how ever on my iPhone 14 Pro with iOS 16.2, my board doesn’t load in full. Letters in the middle of words and portions of drawings are missing. Each time I load up my board on my phone, different elements are missing and remain missing when I export as a PDF or try to print. The concept of the app is great though and is running perfectly on my iPad!

No Use

Unfortunately, I have nothing positive to say about this application. It’s not in my repertoire of useful applications on my iPhone and I have no use for it.. I have never once used the it. Seems like something you’d like to have back in high-school, but a lesser version as it’d be better to write this down. Nice try, but it’s just not worth it.

Love it but a suggestion

I love the app it is what I’ve been looking for! However I think it would be even better if we could have multiple pages for each board or unlimited space. That way we can contain one project within one folder rather than have it span out over multiple boards. Also, if we have multiple boards it might be a good idea to be able to create folders so we can keep project ideas for one particular one in the same place. So if we can’t get multiple pages then perhaps this is an alternative. 🫢 or have both lol.

Great app

This app is very similar to Microsoft’s ONENOTE which is available to install on all devices. I had been using ONENOTE for a year or so, but ever since Apple has launched this app, I have started using regularly a lot. It has all the same features at it would have in Apple’s NOTES app but there are several new features like stickers, crayon, colour fill etc. All the features work very smoothly without difficulty or buffers. This app is very helpful and useful for me as a student.

However, I have a small request. Can the app developers please add a ‘lined grid’ along side a ‘dotted grid’ as it’s hard to write in a straight direction using then Apple Pencil.

Sharing feature doesn’t upload the shared board correctly

I receive all shared boards from my friends but they don’t look fully merged. There is a whole canvas full of missing pieces and elements. I tried to close and open the app. I removed the app and installed it back. Reseted the settings of my iPad. The issue is still there. Please fix this asap otherwise sharing feature is not a feature at all.

Freeform is optimistically a Tool in planning

I never heard of this application until it showed up on my iPhone in one of the more IOS 16 recent updates. As a creative myself, I was so excited to try and expand ways to make this work for me in several aspects of my passion projects and potentially professional projects. I can’t do that at this time because some tweaks have to be done to iCloud on Apple’s end. I’ve already toggled on the sync to iCloud and everything that I added on my MacBook (including a whole board )does not show up on my iPhone. I was willing to hold out on this review but the final straw was me taking the time to update my iPad to iPad OS 16, something I was looking forward to making use of Free form on- yet nothing showed up. Not a board, a note, nothing. And sync was turned on. This might be a iCloud issue, a Freeform application issue, or maybe both but the bottom line is nothing can be done from my end. I have 2 TB of iCloud storage and the fact that the key purpose of iCloud is to have your important information synced adds to my skepticism that I don’t trust it all the way 100%. So many creatives are looking forward to this and hopefully want to rely on this within both personal and professional formats. Apple please don’t let us and anyone else with a creative spark down.

Update - the sync updated and deleted something I spent an hour on creating. Apple & iCloud has to do better with the millions people pay for this service.

Really trying to love it

I wouldn’t say it’s an unlimited whiteboard, as it can’t really handle too much. Things I write with my apple pencil randomly disappear, I have to rewrite things constantly and I’m not collaborating with anyone at this point. I’m trying to use it to help me plan my days and it just crashes nonstop, trying to load the board I’m working on takes forever, it is glitchy when scrolling around the board and so slow. I haven’t used any other whiteboard programs so I was excited to try this. I’m not sure if this is something all whiteboard programs struggle with either but I really wish this were better, crossing my fingers that subsequent updates help improve it. As another reviewer said “it’s not ready for prime time” sadly.

Improvement ideas

I love the concept of this app! It could be very useful in my studies. Here are some of the potential improvements that I've identified:

- it would be nice to be able to create folders to organize boards
- it would be great to be able to search on handwritten words
- it would also be nice to search within attached files (and possibly images)

I was hoping Apple test the software before releasing it …

The tool is very buggy and really slow. I have notes with about 100 screenshots and now I cna’t really use it anymore. The default zoom in or zoom out shortkeys in other similar tools or other Apple apps doesn’t work in here. Zoom in and zoom out is really slow and takes ages.

I like the way you can embed 3d files and ebooks, PFD, etc. I don’t know why this is not part of Nots app. This is a natural fit into Notes app. I wish apple added an outliner for each canvas as well, like a text version of the canvas.

Oh how the mighty have fallen

I recently just got my new iPad Pro (2018) for the purposes of studying, hence why I downloaded this app. At first it seemed great: I enjoyed the bullet journal background, and I enjoyed the design of it. However, as I have continued to use it more and more it is just really rubbish. As others have said, it doesn’t have the option to group documents together, which is really unhelpful. What is more, after using the app for more than an hour at a time it begins to get really laggy and glitchy.

More than that, the app is currently frozen on a plain white background which cannot be changed by restarting my iPad. It did get changed by deleting and re-downloading the app. However, once I clicked on my work again it simply froze again and is just a white screen.

I have decided to either opt for Apple notes or OneNote for my studies. Freeform doesn’t seem to be changing any time soon.
