Excellent Update

The added Evernote is much appreciated and the app finally complements the premium subscription added to some versions of the pen.

The app is getting better and better.

Of Note: I lost my notes that we're previously in the app, luckily all were stored on my laptop; nonetheless ensure you have a backup before you update!

Serious Flaws

I hope potential buyers of Livescribe 3 pens reads this before their purchase and therefore have the chance to reconsider before spending their hard earned cash.

Update: The pen HAD 2big flaws, now 1.

1) The pen is sold with (as stated in the manual) "having ability to customise your own tags in the Livescribe app" but no it cannot. You can assign a tag, a flag and a star. That's it. This is not 'ability to customise a tag' as the whole world knows it or expect it. You cannot assign any specific project names or words, NOTHING. If you have 1000 "snippet" or say 100 pages with tags they would all be listed in the "tag" section. You have no ability to create "project x" tag. This is darn right miss selling.

The second flaw regarding sync with evernote has been rectified via the last update, so I have amended the review to 3 stars.

For us to have a great product we either need the ability to better organise our notes in Livescribe+ (An app which can search your hand writing) by having customisable tags and other improvements in Livescribe. Or Evernote needs to be able to search hand writing like Livescribe+. I recognise the latter option is only in Evernote's control.

As it is, you can either have great organisation but no handwriting search facility. Or a fantastic ability to search handwriting, but really crap organisation (next to zero) of your notes.

I really hope they improve on this because I would love to love this product!

Let down once more

Hi all, I'm a fan of the promise, and at one point committed to the product.

However there internal model for app deployment, and hardware development are failing. Furthermore the alignment with app and hardware both, and not to mention promise of future releases, features, fixes that don't arrive. I'm left writing a negative review. Who really wants to do that anyway (write negative reviews)? I mean, ideally you speak of a products praises. Especially a product as such as this one, a good product as such as LiveScribe will have your customers marketing it for you.

Anyway, the app development looks as though they don't have a complete testing environment, needless to say buggy. Connection lost with pin and iPhone. Loose content when it is connected/ing. This alone makes the process not dependable. Let me remind you 80-85 percent of the time it's beautiful. However when you are let down this much, your pattern of usage falls, thus future adoption if such a solution falls as well.

Another point the Evernote integration as promised in the beginning is PDF export to Evernote import... That's not integration. On the same note the OneNite may sound more promising but have not tried it.

I hope I can learn to trust this solution in the future, I still hope!

Problems with App closing, App Deleted all of my audio files. You will lose audio if this happens.

I have an iPhone 5s that I connect the Livescribe 3 pen to. I have used this app four or five times in the past week. In that timeframe I have had the app close on me a half dozen times. The pen works fantastic, but the reliability issue is HUGE. You will lose all your audio if this happens. I have found that around 50% of the time you will also lose your digital copy of the notes, but the other half it will appear. Either way, you will have those in your notebook, but that kind of defeats the purpose of this thing.

Another thing, I have been talking to someone from customer service about a serious issue iโ€™ve been havingโ€ฆ the last update completely wiped out all of my audio notes. It started a new library and now I have no access to the old one. I have a ton of things to review and I have not been able to because I dont have access to the file. They keep giving me generic responses when trying to contact them, saying โ€œthey are working on a fix.โ€ no time table was given, after repeated questions, they didnt let me talk to anyone who might be able to fix it.

Great idea - very poor software

Needs work. "Open in..." For example just blinks and goes away. You can send notes in PDF or image but not in plain text???

Tagging is idiosyncratic - after many tries I still don't really get it. It certainly doesn't work the way tagging works in any other software. And I haven't located any means to manage tags.

The Pen is a great tool - but this model depends on the iOS software because they have moved most of the productive activity to your phone or iPad.

It's hard to see how you can get the full benefit of the pen from this half baked software.

think twice.

Ongoing improvements to a really useful app

I've been using the Livescribe 3 Smartpen and this app since November. It's very functional on both my iPad Mini and iPhone 5.

I particularly like being able to share client notes and drawings instantly with them as well as propping up my iPad and showing work in near real time

Functional with limitations

This app is essential for Livescribe 3 smart pen users as it cannot pair with anything else. It captures your scribblings pretty much in realtime - which is pretty cool. If your iPhone is not nearby or has bluetooth off, the pen will cache your writing and sync the next time the app is open with bluetooth switched on. Pretty nifty.

On the downside the Feed screen should have a time stamp for each entry and should allow you to search by strings. This would be a welcomed improvement.

The export is pretty basic and has no direct OCR'd text export to Evernote. You can export a PDF to Evernote or you can OCR your writing then email to your Evernote account. Both not really efficient. Ideally you should be able to export your searchable OCR'd text to Evernote with one click (rather having to labouriously type in your Evernote email address and give it a meaningful subject to allow it to syphon it to the correct Evernote notebook)

Promising - is functional, but ultimately needs a lot more integration with Evernote or at least provide a text search thru your Feed.

THIS APP IS HORRIBLE

Whenever I write most of my books writing comes of the page or gets cut off when its transferred to this app, this is truly pathetic, fix it!

Much improved, still lacking...

The ability to sync via bluetooth is a much needed upgrade from the previous iterations of the pen. All in all, very good. sync can be a little slow sometimes when you have a few pages to come in all at once. Still lacking in the ability to archive notebooks though. Whilst this isnโ€™t an issue at the moment, It wonโ€™t be too long before this will be a hinderance.

Very slick utility

I wouldn't be without my livescribe pens- this is my 3rd as I am always tempted by the improved versions!

This latest innovation increases is functionality immensively. The ease with which it syncs to my ipad and instantly converts handwriting to script is impressive. Wow!

I upload to Evernote, so that all of my stuff is in the same cloud, it all fits together like a dream.
