  • Considering returning the pen

Character recognition / conversion to text is awful, whether it is print or cursive. (I have the penmanship of an architect & it still doesn't convert accurately). Originally bought it to save time on converting handwritten notes to text saved in a document. However I have to correct 90 - 95% of the words anyway so it's not saving me any time. In fact it may be costing me time as there is no quick way to get the poorly converted notes from the app into a word document. (I have note subscribed to the service they offer yet b/c I haven't decided whether to keep the pen so not sure if it is accomplished any better with that). The process described on the LiveScribe website is cumbersome, consisting of cutting, paying & emailing to yourself, & truly feels like a work around. This product has fallen well short of my expectations.

  • You guys are doing great but slow

The app is working very well (although my pen only connects when i turn on bluetooth via the popup that comes up saying turn on bluetooth then sending me to settings than going back to the app... Meaning for some reason control center doesnt work for turning on bluetooth.), but the app is VERY slow and needs speed improvements. Also cloud services should back up EVERYTHING! I kinda enjoyed having notes locally but at this point id rather have everything in the cloud INCLUDING pencasts! This way it would make the app faster because it wouldn't have to render my 100+ notes. Also if we could have feed views for each note book. I probably use this thing more than the average user. Also to those having the crashing issue that may be due to the synching to evernote/one note thing not working which needs to be fixed!

  • Too many bugs

The app is horribly bug ridden. Syncing is terrible. Overall the app works very inconsistently.
For the cost of the product attached to this app, a customer should receive much better service.
  • Would probably rate higher if it worked

There appears to be a problem between the ap and the pen. Nothing that is written on the page appears on the ap.

Having a standard menu would be a benefit. As it stands a user is never sure what page they are working on or whether it is saved or not
  • Stretching the bounds of the written word

I’ve been using their Livescribe 3 smartpen with the past two releases for over a month now, and while there were some hiccups along the way, I find myself using the pen with a few different types of their notebooks in ways I didn’t think of before. To actually jot down sketches and ideas on a real piece of paper in a natural fashion and then have it appear not only on the iPad, but on Evernote really allows me to integrate the software architecture work I do into a more cohesive environment with my colleagues. No more sending out share announcements of something I spent half a day on in Lucid Charts. I can write it out much faster and others will see it once its synced. Talk about collaboration!

Already I’m having fevered ideas on how someone could evolve this technology to become a control interface. With the commendable data detection already in place for the transcription, it would be a worthwhile endeavor to actually write out data searches or draw out complex Venn diagrams only to be interpreted as SQL commands.

Once you actually get into the flow of things and get over the minor flaws I know they are fixing, you’ll find that this tool indispensable.

P.S. If you are a real journalling nut, go the extra mile and throw down for the Moleskin bundle.

  • Great concept, App is very unstable

The overall concept of the Livescribe pen is brilliant; I have long been a fan of digitally archiving my notes and the link with Evernote is first class. The ability to record audio on the pen is also good and sets it apart from other products. However, all of this is compromised by the Livescribe+ app; it's so unstable it crashes and reboots itself more times per day than I care to mention. Speed is also an issue when first opening the app; the three notebooks that I'm currently using take an age to display and uploading 4 or 5 pages of stored text can take upwards of 10 minutes- surely that can't be right?
The whole concept of using Livescribe is to make me more efficient; the performance of the app is now impacting on this goal. Please, before introducing any new functionality get this app stable and performing at the level you would expect from a premium product.

  • Great when it works

I haven't been able to do a pencast since June and my notebooks are not uploading to Evernote. These two features were the main reason I bought the pen. My writing uploads to the app and the feed works really well, but not being able to send my notes to Evernote and not being able to pencast are serious app flaws. To clarify, the app has these capabilities and the worked great until mid June, but they are no longer working for me.
Update: I reinstalled the app and everything works again.
The microphone on my phone produces a far superior pencast recording than my echo. Even in a background noise ladened room, it works great. The auto send to Evernote is an excellent feature as well.

  • Outstanding app

I've been a longtime Livescribe user, starting with the echo pen, and I am extremely impressed with the Livescribe 3 and Livescribe+ app combination. The OCR and search capabilities for reviewing my notes are outstanding. My handwriting is nearly illegible, yet (especially with cursive) I would safely say the OCR engine in this app has about 96% accuracy. My work performance has improved dramatically since I started using this, as I can quickly refer to meeting notes (and playback audio, which has always been livescribe's strength). That strength coupled with such a great OCR engine and search feature make this the very best tool in my work arsenal. Thank you, thank you, thank you Livescribe!

  • Buggy

Only works intermittently - unreliable with random lines obscuring what you have written. Have now reinstalled twice but the issues remain.
  • Excellent Update

The added Evernote is much appreciated and the app finally complements the premium subscription added to some versions of the pen.

The app is getting better and better.

Of Note: I lost my notes that we're previously in the app, luckily all were stored on my laptop; nonetheless ensure you have a backup before you update!
