  • Free or Paid, both are worth it

Had played the card game with my brother-in-law a handful of times. I downloaded the free version of the game so that I could improve my skills. Playing both the Easy and Medium AI in the free version was fun, engaging, and helped build my strategy. I could’ve played the free version forever but $4.99 was worth it to be able to play on any of my devices and for the Pass And Play feature that allows my wife and I to play together.

  • Good deck builder game.

I haven’t played all the modes yet, but I’ve played enough to see that it is a solid, fun deck building game. I’ve played and enjoyed Ascension before, and it seems that most polished deck builder games are fun and have a similar feel. This one is no exception. It’s the themes and flavor that set different deck builders apart. This has a starwars/startrek kind of theme with the nice addition of a campaign mode with a narrated story. Also has an online PvP mode and an in person PvP mode where you just pass your phone to your opponent. I’d definitely recommend this game to anyone who likes or is open to trying deck-building games. And keep an eye out for when Hero Realms is released on digital. That’s a similar game by the same company, but with a rpg fantasy theme rather than the starships.

  • Digital version lacks physical game refinement

First SR is a fantastic strategy card game with an amazing community.

However, the digital version has major drawbacks which are easily fixed that would bring the game closer to what makes the physical version so good. Also, the feedback mechanism for these changes to the developer are poor, with the company sending form responses without consideration… thus my review here.

    Some suggestions:
    - undo function within a turn until an irreversible decision has been made (ex. trade row or deck card flipping)

    - non-automatic ally and card abilities that allow the user to chose when to trigger their draw, too-deck, and other effects unless prohibited/mandated by the physical game rules

    - add scenarios. Why is this hard?

    - gambit balancing - no need to tip the game one way or the other when such simple options exist to ensure balance in the allocation of gambits … which is regularly done in physical games.

    - commander selection upon game start, not just randomly assigned or pre-selected as a default option.

    - in app chat or message feature, even if just for pre-selected comments (good game, nice combo, etc).

I hope the devs listen to feedback … as this game is sooooo good and the app just falls a little short.

  • Amazing

Honestly one of the best card game phone adaptations I have heard payed. Most feel awful when trying to play, either the touch response is terrible, too many animations, or it is too difficult to see or read. This game does card games right. The base game is a lot of fun, but many of the add-ons greatly expand the game and are relatively cheap. Love the card game, but this makes it more portable, affordable, and not reliant on a second player near you.

  • Great for fans of the Table-Top original

If you like Star Realms as a table-top game, this will be fun for you.
The app itself has some minor issues, but overall it’s really fun. [Depending on the size of your screen], the print on the cards is difficult to see, it’s very small and there is so much important information on each one. If you play the table-top, you know how important it is to see all the information on your opponent’s cards too.
It’s not a huge deal, you have time to choose your plays, you can make each card larger and look at it as long as you need to.

Good Game, good app, lots of fun.

  • Would love a “Good Job!” button.

I’ve been playing a ton of this game. The “48 hour to make your move” game mode is amazing for a casual like me. The strategy and talent pool is also as amazing. I’ve made two silent friends through online (there is no method of communication in this game). Sometimes I want to send them a “good job” or “whoa! Amazing game!” Or thank them for playing with me after all this time. Even if it’s just a singular button available at the end of a match, I’d use it!

  • Great free app, with lots of options

I love Star Realms, and I have all three of the physics card decks and several other expansions. The app is a fantastic implementation of the game. I played for free for a long time (since I spent so much on the cards themselves and was only really interested in playing some solo against AI on the app.) Eventually I did upgrade to the paid app, but haven’t added any expansions in app yet. And while that might be fun to do so, I don’t need to. The campaign modes are especially fresh and challenging—my favorite part of the app, and even just the standard AI is fun to play against. You really don’t have to spend money to enjoy this app—you might choose to, but you’re never feeling forced to. Highly recommended.

  • Questionable RND

I've been playing for over a year now and I have serious questions about the RND function when shuffling discards. For a bit of background on me, I have a degree in statistics. When I first started playing, it seemed to that whenever I got one of the 7 or 8 cost cards, if they went to the discard pile first, were almost always one of the last two cards to appear after the pile was shuffled. I started tracking the data to see if I was remembering bad case scenarios, but after a couple hundred games, this was happening, and happening at rate nearing 2 standard deviations. For those that don't know, standard deviation is a measure of how close to the norm something is. Anything past 2 is a big problem. I played a game today where I had 5 base cards and 10 cards from the trade row. On the reshuffle, I got all 5 base card on the initial draw. That's about 400,000:1 odds. And yes, I understand computer RND isn't truly random, but it's also not this bad.

Other than that, it's a good game.

  • Buggy update

I’m a big fan of this game, but the recent update has a bug when initiating a rematch. Instead of coming up with a challenge for the player you initiated the rematch from, it auto fills the challenger name with the last player you challenged. I play regularly against 3 friends, so with the recent introduction of this bug I end up starting a 2nd match against a current opponent, instead of a rematch against the opponent I just beat. Still, a great game and this minor blemish is only a mild irritation.

  • Great game

This game uses some really good thinking skills I originally started playing this game with the physical version but now I prefer the digital version because A:the graphics are so good B:it’s easier to keep track of your attack points and your (please correct me if I’m wrong in saying this) credits C:the 48 hour turn feature makes it so much easier to play if you don’t want to play a quick game overall I think this game is 5 stars would recommend this to anyone with a sci-fi need and a lot of time to kill.
