  • Hopeless

What is the point of the app if it doesn’t support Australia!!!
  • Lacking in basic functionality

UX in this app is incredibly unintuitive and un functional. What the product touts in automation and simplicity it sacrifices massively in capability and ease of use. Despite it being smart enough to connect my thermostat to my phone, I can’t set custom schedules easily from one menu screen, and even the silly profiles that you can set them from they can only be set in 30 min increments. I have to go to a completely separate sub-menu to adjust the temperature for those profiles (!) If I ask the thermostat to run manually until a particular time I’m given 3 options: 2 hours, 4 hours, or until the “sleep” profile. Why I can’t set this to a custom timer is beyond me. UX team seems to be so lost in their own pitch they can’t see what a garbage experience they’ve created. The whole point of an app connected device is to allow this basic customization easily and away from the old units that were a nightmare to navigate. Apparently they’ve just moved it online. I’m not looking for home automation, I’m not looking to buy a set of sensors, I just want my thermostat to allow me to set custom settings via the app remotely. Guess that’s still asking too much in 2024.

  • Great and convenient until it wasn’t

I loved this app due to how convenient and easy it was. Being able to control the temperature of our home from our phones no matter where in the world we are gave us peace of mind. Also, getting reminders of when to swap our filter is so nice to have as it kinda checks off something from our list of things to do around the house.

The app worked great for about 2 years until recently we keep getting an error message up one opening the app. Even though you can hit “try again” the same error appears over and over until it decides on its own to stop. I’ve forced closed the app, reinstalled and even checked to see if there are any updates that the app may need but regardless, it shows us the same message. I thought it was just my device but my husband received the same error with the same issues (we both have iPhone 13 Pro Max with the latest iOS). Our thermostat is working fine, we just can’t manage to figure out the issue.

Hoping it sorts itself out or that the app devs see this and maybe reach out.

  • New App look is not an improvement

Why do app developers always mess with a good thing. The old ecobee version had a slick easy to use look with all widgets in one template. Now they have gone to a boring list view. Stripped down ugly and institutional. Why? I used to be able to see everything right in front of me. Now I have to go looking for it. Terrible

  • Widget doesn’t work anymore

The widget doesn’t work anymore (blank white screen), which is unfortunate, because it was super useful.
  • Going downhill

Update 3: The app keeps forgetting my settings, requiring me to dismiss an ad and setup my entire thermostat and security system every time it’s opened. Whatever they updated has made the app unusable to start 2024.

Update 2: Ecobee has started abusing push notifications to spam about new products and share marketing messages. For a product I depend on for security this is especially gross because if I turn notifications off I could miss something important. Will be skipping ecobee in my next place if this keeps up. Update: Got shown an ad on the main screen for a thermostat. I already own one so not only did ecobee crud up the experience, but they also did it unnecessarily. Shameful. This app is stable, well designed, and easy to use. I love the card UI and animations. My only gripe is it seems to be buggy when switching states. For example arming my system always shows a red error on the devices count. It also sometimes shows a “Self monitoring” badge even though I have a subscription. I have to refresh for these issues to go away. Something about how the app handles states is off. Generally very happy with my ecobee hardware and software.

  • Multizone systems BEWARE

I purchased 6 brand new ecobee units for my 2 unit, 3 zones each, system. Once the ecobee’s were installed I programmed the units, grouped each zone to each system for a total of 2 groups. This is necessary so you don’t have one thermostat calling for cool and others calling for heat. My house is big and not only does it have a wide variable of temps by zone, i didn’t want a guest changing the thermostat while the remainder of the tstats may be in a different mode. This could wreak havoc on the unit. So having the ability to group tstats was a prerequisite before purchasing the ecobee tstats. After installation and programming the system worked without flaw. So happy I was with my expensive purchase. That was until earlier this year when ecobee decided to turn off the grouping feature for all ecobees. I’ve contacted support and they have no plans on correcting this blunder. I’d really like them to allow me to return these for a full refund. It’s not right what they did. They still advertise on their website the Tstat allows for grouping. Which is not the truth. I regret doing business with them. Beware if you have this as a need.

  • Widget not work

After last update widget not working. Ios 17.
  • App needs lots of work

I bought an ecoobe smart thermostat premium about four months ago and downloaded this app to be able to control my ecobee smart thermostat remotely. I wasn't gonna write a review as rarely ever do I write a review. But as time has went on using this app, it seems I get more frustrated each day with it. The app does work as it says it does and the look of the app isn't bad at all. However, making changes to the thermostats schedule, even making a simple temperature adjustment is horrible. If I make a change on my schedule, it will sit there for sometimes 15 seconds or so before it acknowledges the change. And its not my internet speed, trust me. I average over 35mbps. Almost every adjustment made lags and is very slow to respond. It just seems poorly designed on the mechanics aspect of the app. If that could be corrected, I'd give this app 5 stars. But because of the lag and slow responses, I'm hard pressed to give it 3 stars but I did because the app does work and it looks decent enough. But it needs work. And to be associated with one of the best smart thermostats on the market today, I'm shocked ecoobe has such a poorly designed app. I will update my review if the slow response/lag is ever corrected.

  • Plenty of room for improvement

I’ve had my ecobee 4 for many years and it performs all of the basics very well, but smart it isn’t. It’s software and I have butted heads a number of times. When I set up a schedule, I should be telling the system when to change the thermostat setting, instead, it insists on interpreting my schedule as being when I want the set point to be reached.
Schedule timing is in half hour increments. Set a minimum schedule interval at 30 or 45 minutes if you need to, but give me quarter hour increments, like start at 3 pm and end at 8:15 pm.
Most recently, I realized eco+ considers it necessary to try to save on my energy bill during mid-peak TOU periods when rates are actually quite low. It should be my decision how much to prioritize energy savings during each rate period.
Now that I’ve turned off most eco+ features, my schedule works the way I want it to ( finally ), never running the AC during peak rate periods and keeping me comfortable 24/7.
