DOWN THE PAN

Basically put I’ve never missed a BNPL plan. Changed to the new app as everyone was forced to do. It didn’t show one of 2 plans I had ending may 16th it only shown one the one it did show I paid as usual the payment automatically gets allocated and they allocated an exact payment of £190 to a £240 plan that was ending the very same day the problem was the £240 didn’t show up in the app correctly so I didn’t see it the other problem is the £190 payment for the £190 plan still exists and so does the £240 that didn’t show up I’ve phone customer service and spoken to somebody who didn’t understand extended English and when talking about credit agreements I think is a bare minimum. Still on the phone to them now they’ve admitted fault but said I still have to pay the interest I’ve asked to speak to a manager who understands what I am trying to explain as it feels like am speaking to artificial unintelligence at this point

Should have left it alone

Since Argos switched to using NewDay Ltd my account doesn’t work, I can’t purchase anything without it saying my credentials are incorrect when they aren’t, I keep getting locked out of my account for no reason, constantly trying to reset it as I need to make a large furniture purchase. I never had any of these issues before. Really silly move on Argos to have changed from Argos card (store card) which worked perfectly fine to a company that is now trying to run it like a credit card and doesn’t even know work

Terrible - avoid!

My mother-in-law is 81 and has held an Argos card for years without issue. She is now unable to access her account.

Despite multiple attempts to register using the exact details Argos have sent - by email and by letter - the account is now blocked. We cannot get past the registration screen. There is no payment currently due, but the distress this is causing an elderly woman who simply wants to manage her own finances independently is not acceptable.

This is not an isolated case. The volume and consistency of negative reviews here points to a systemic failure in this migration, not individual user error.

I would urge someone senior at either Argos or New Day to consider this carefully: under the FCA’s Consumer Duty, firms are required to demonstrate good outcomes for all customers - including those who are vulnerable or less digitally confident. A registration system that is actively blocking elderly, long-standing customers from accessing their accounts is not a grey area. It warrants urgent review.

Argos are currently sending communications encouraging customers to register with a system that does not work. That is not a UX problem. That is a compliance risk.

Winning back customers you have alienated will cost significantly more than whatever savings this migration was intended to deliver. The reviews are telling you something. Act on them.

Appalling

The new Argos Pay app is a massive downgrade from the old Argos Card app. How is it possible to make something that was simple and useful so much worse?

The biggest issue is that you can no longer make payments towards individual plans. The old app let you clearly see your different Buy Now Pay Later plans and pay off whichever one you wanted. That gave customers control over their finances and helped avoid unnecessary interest charges.

Now everything feels less transparent and far more restrictive. Features that were genuinely useful have either been removed or buried, making the app frustrating to use. Instead of improving the experience, Argos has taken away functionality that customers actually relied on.

The previous Argos Card app wasn’t perfect, but at least it allowed people to manage their plans properly. The new Argos Pay app feels like a step backwards in every way. If you’re going to replace an app, it should offer more features, not fewer. Very disappointing.

Why Argos, Why?

Have been with Argos for many wonderful years and had their Argos Card for sometime. You could choose what to pay off first; either a BNPL or a one off purchase, or a percentage of both. You could also use it at Sainsbury’s for groceries.
Along comes New Day and ruins what was a great system.
You cannot choose what to pay off first but you make a substantial payment a few days before your payment date but then if that wasn’t enough, you receive an email advising that your BNPL is ending shortly and you need to finish off the plan. Well, that was what my substantial payment was for, to clear it. But no, not NEW DAY’s way.
Anyway, to cut a long story short. I wasn’t going to put up with this rubbish. So, my account balance is now ZERO and I have CLOSED the NEW DAY account but will continue to shop at Argos but either with my Debit/Credit Card.
A once perfectly great system, now ruined. Bye New Day!!

New day Cards are awful! This app is awful!

Update:

Despite several updates this is still an awful app! Still so difficult to pay by card as I’m not giving these comedians my bank details! The app is so bad I have to still use the website to do anything else but pay.

Old review:

Finally moved from ArgosCard to this awful company as they used a postal address I’d not lived in for over 2 years. Despite tell ArgosCard when I moved. Now trying to pay on this garbage app is useless! I’m not giving you any bank details! Not for a direct debit or logging in with my bank log in. So difficult to pay by card, something ArgosCard did by default. This is an AWFUL app from an AWFUL company. Don’t use them unless you have to.

Not at all user friendly

The old app was so much better and user friendly. Have so many issues just logging into the new app then when I do eventually get in it either kicks me back out or freezes. Unable to make payments to individual payment plans. Example I have one ending October and one that is payable over 3 months…I want to pay off the one over 3 months as that ends first but it won’t allow that. Once these plans have ended I’ll be closing my account.

If you change your phone, you have to start again with all the process

Like many of us, I changed my phone and the app said that my details are wrong. After multiple calls with Newday, still not able to log into the app. How on earth will I be able to make a payment and how likely I will be to buy something from Argos using that card. The app should be easy to use if they want to make money, like most of the similar apps or the older Argos app.

Can’t choose which plan to pay

I have been a loyal Argos Customer for over 15 years and I have always brought stuff like PlayStation, Apple MacBook and IPads over the last 10 years using the BNPL options. With the old system I was easily able to select which plan to pay off in time and this helped me stay on track of my finances but this new system is terrible. I don’t have the option to choose which plan I want to pay off as with other retailers like Very I can easily select which payment plan I can pay towards. I am really considering in closing my Argos card for good and just sticking with Very for simple peace of mind and control over my payment plans. This would be a real shame as I have always enjoyed my experience with Argos over the last 15 years.

Hi Sorry to hear this hasn’t been a great experience. We’ll pass your feedback about plan payment options on to the team to review. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Emma

Doesn’t let you choose which payment plan to pay

Had a couple of plans, one ending before another and way planning to pay each off before the interest starts. With the new app, I can’t even choose which plan to pay, it just automatically allocates the money to wherever it feels like! So my finances are a mess now, can’t figure out what needs paying when and can’t allocate money to what one that ends first. Seems so scammy like they’re wanting everyone to pay interest by getting confused and going over their limit

Owned by criminals

The company that now own Argos pay are breaking the law by not providing an alternative communication option for the disabled and by not having an accessible app, with there excessively secure and unique manner of getting into the app, which means, easily forgetting security information. I’m now locked out of my account, and as I can’t use a telephone and I can’t afford a stamp, I’m heading to court for not paying my bill, I just have to state I’m not the criminal, it’s there fault

New day, totally backward

I’m totally flabbergasted that someone was able to produce a program so unintuitive,,not everyone is computer literate l can see Argos having a lot of problems in the not too distant future………🥹five good reviews against 1.4K negative l guess that tells a story…..myself l would enjoy like so many others to have some control where my money goes and to which plan instead of new day deciding which plan gives them the most interest and that’s why l closed my account

Don’t like it

Don’t like the interface or the fact I can’t pay on individual plans . Also why is there always a minimum due even when you pay towards the plan? Only good thing is payments are now reflected instantly and now shows end dates. 12 month payment option is excellent but how much to spend to get that?Where’s the information on how much to spend to get certain amount of months bnpl?

Can’t make payment on BNPL

The old Argos card and method was great. Can’t even make a payment through Is Argos Pay BNPL. Keeps asking me to register even though I am registered amd yes have downloaded the new updated Argos Pay app. Please stop sending generic responses and fix the issues raised. Argos is wasting their customers time and losing money because
as a long term customer I cannot be bothered with the app and will not be spending any more time and money with Argos!

Can’t pay towards individual plans

I loved the previous feature where I could pay off whatever amount to individual plans, now it’s all in one pot, can’t view the end date for plans, easy to get trapped! Poor from Argos, not enough transparency. Will be deleting once plans paid off. I use to pay towards a plan for a family member and can’t even track his payments anymore as all payments goes towards all plans. Poor, trying to trap people into debt and heavy interest.

BNPL repayment system is terrible

Before NewDay you could choose which BNPL plan to pay off, which worked perfectly. Now you cannot choose what plan you pay off and instead payments are automatically allocated based on their own criteria. This is a terrible system and takes away our control over how and when we repay our purchases. If we have to wait until the BNPL plan period expires, how do we know it won’t impact our credit score or incur unwanted fees?

Closing Account ASAP

Me and plenty other people agree that this new update was the worst thing Argos could have done. The app itself is overly complicated & has made it 100x more difficult to pay off your BNPL individually, this was the most unnecessary thing Argos has ever done, nobody needed this. I can’t wait to clear off my credit and shut my account down completely. ACTUALLY SO DISAPPOINTED.

App is alright, old Argos card app was still better

The App itself is alright, but there are a few things from the old app that would have been good to have in the new App. First, the ability to choose what plan you want to make payments towards. This was helpful to me in the old app as I was able to budget what plans I wanted to pay off e.g. £100 towards plan A and £100 towards plan B. Now all payments go towards the plan that the app choose (the plan that is due the earliest). The ability to see finish plans to was pretty good, but you can’t do that in the new app. You can only see them in your statements, which is a bit long to do. I think putting these things back into the new App shouldn’t be too hard, so would be good to see them come back.

Worst update ever

Where do I even start? The app is visually less appealing and looks like a downgraded version of the old one. Logging in is less seamless and more of a hassle. Now the main thing… they’ve completed removed the ability to allocate payments to different plans. So now your money is paid towards the plan that ends first or split which is a nightmare. You now have no control of where your money goes. If you want to intentionally pay one plan off the app will split the payment or allocate towards another plan. This makes it much easier to accumulate interest and it appears that this might have been the plan all along. I will be closing my Argos account after many years as soon as I’ve paid off everything. If they don’t fix this issue they will lose many more customers.

Terrible App

The old My Argos Card app was so much better. I was able to make payments directly to each BNPL plan and a separate payment to my Normal credit. With this app, yes I can now see when my plans end but I used to be able to budget each month how much I was going to pay each BNPL plan and normal credit. I feel like this new app/partner New Day ltd is trying to catch me out so I’m forced to pay more interest. Once everything is paid off I’m going to be closing my account. Terrible move Argos…
