DOWN THE PAN
Should have left it alone

Terrible - avoid!
Despite multiple attempts to register using the exact details Argos have sent - by email and by letter - the account is now blocked. We cannot get past the registration screen. There is no payment currently due, but the distress this is causing an elderly woman who simply wants to manage her own finances independently is not acceptable.
This is not an isolated case. The volume and consistency of negative reviews here points to a systemic failure in this migration, not individual user error.
I would urge someone senior at either Argos or New Day to consider this carefully: under the FCA’s Consumer Duty, firms are required to demonstrate good outcomes for all customers - including those who are vulnerable or less digitally confident. A registration system that is actively blocking elderly, long-standing customers from accessing their accounts is not a grey area. It warrants urgent review.
Argos are currently sending communications encouraging customers to register with a system that does not work. That is not a UX problem. That is a compliance risk.
Winning back customers you have alienated will cost significantly more than whatever savings this migration was intended to deliver. The reviews are telling you something. Act on them.

Appalling
The biggest issue is that you can no longer make payments towards individual plans. The old app let you clearly see your different Buy Now Pay Later plans and pay off whichever one you wanted. That gave customers control over their finances and helped avoid unnecessary interest charges.
Now everything feels less transparent and far more restrictive. Features that were genuinely useful have either been removed or buried, making the app frustrating to use. Instead of improving the experience, Argos has taken away functionality that customers actually relied on.
The previous Argos Card app wasn’t perfect, but at least it allowed people to manage their plans properly. The new Argos Pay app feels like a step backwards in every way. If you’re going to replace an app, it should offer more features, not fewer. Very disappointing.

Why Argos, Why?
Along comes New Day and ruins what was a great system.
You cannot choose what to pay off first but you make a substantial payment a few days before your payment date but then if that wasn’t enough, you receive an email advising that your BNPL is ending shortly and you need to finish off the plan. Well, that was what my substantial payment was for, to clear it. But no, not NEW DAY’s way.
Anyway, to cut a long story short. I wasn’t going to put up with this rubbish. So, my account balance is now ZERO and I have CLOSED the NEW DAY account but will continue to shop at Argos but either with my Debit/Credit Card.
A once perfectly great system, now ruined. Bye New Day!!
