Still pairing issues with Audiokey 2.0

The app is still very 50/50 if it will pair to stream music or not. Have to go through the configuration process over and over. Irritating.

Also, why doesn’t the app allow the user to mute environmental noise when streaming music? I think an early version of the app did so. Why did was that feature removed?

Response from developer

Dear 'jsteffe13', thanks for your review. Whether it is possible to stream only audio (exclude the processor microphones during streaming) depends on the type of audio processor you are using. Also, your AudioStream interacts directly with the operating system of your phone, once configured via the app. In order to improve the overall stability of the connection of your AudioStream, you can update the AudioStream firmware via the AudioKey 2 app. In order to do that, the AudioStream needs to be unparied from your phone first. Please send an email to us at audiokey@medel.com for further instructions on how to update your AudioStream. Thanks.

Rubbish

Rather rubbish app which does not update. Let me explain. CI is switched on 4 weeks ago and I use 2 programs which this app did. Yesterday my CI was updated to 4 programs. Tried disconnecting and reconnecting but it still only shows 2 programs. This app is more hassle than it is worth. There is a Scottish word for such a thing but best not to mention it!! Get it sorted! Get a ‘update CI settings on the menu’.

Dear FEMSW, thanks for your review. Our app already has a feature that allows you to refresh the audio processor data (e.g., after a fitting appointment). Please open the User Profile of the app (your name in the main menu), tap on the three dots in the upper right corner and select 'Refresh audio processor data'. Once the refresh process is completed, you will see all 4 programs in the Listening Settings of the app. In case you have further questions or suggestions, please send an email to us at audiokey@medel.com. Thanks.

Battery

There is no way to see the Battery life I’m on my Sonnet 2

Response from developer

Dear 'kachunter', thanks for your review. Unfortunately, due to hardware limitations, the SONNET 2 battery status cannot be displayed in the AudioKey 2 app (this feature is currently only available for the RONDO 3 audio processor). However, we will consider your suggestion for improvement for the future development of our app and our audio processors. If you have further questions or suggestions, please send an email to us at audiokey@medel.com. Thank you.

Poor programming

It’s very difficult to connect to AudioStream because it mainly won’t connect at all. So got tired of constant disconnecting and restarting. Won’t connect.

Kinda works

I use both rondo 3 and sonnet devices. I can add them both in this app, but I can only change programs on whichever device was added to the app last. In order to modify the first device, I have to remove the second device. No small feat as it often takes several attempts to connect a new device. Spend some money and work on improving the app!

Response from developer

Dear 'carrboropaul', thanks for your review. You can switch in between processors of the same ear side without removing any of them from the app. Please open the 'User Profile' in the app, tap on the 'three-dot' menu in the upper right corner and select 'Switch audio processor'. Now, simply select the processor you would like to use and tap on 'Save'. Once this is done, the 'Listening Settings' will connect to the selected processor and allow you to control it. If you need further assistance, please send an email to us at audiokey@medel.com and we will be happy to help. Thanks.

Not bad

Been using this instead of my fine tuner Echo and it does the job perfectly.
Shame it’s hard to see - needs a dark mode

Response from developer

Dear "Tazz2011", thanks for your positive review. We are glad to hear that you are happy with our app and we will consider your suggestion for improvement regarding dark mode for the future development of our app. In case you have further questions or suggestions, please send an email to us at audiokey@medel.com. Feedback

I really appreciate the user interface that allows you the flexibility and convenience in modifying your cochlear implant setting seamlessly. In addition, my favorite feature is the ability to “turn off” my cochlear implant by pressing the mute button in the monitoring mode. I don’t have to physically take it off! Now there is some feature I wish could be implemented in the app. For instance, I believe it will serve all the app users if the battery usage is showed on the app indicating low battery instead of beeping noise inside our cochlear implant. Growing up, that beeping noise always bothered me. That would be an extremely significant feature imho. Overall, excited for updates in the future! Keep it up! 💪

Does not work

Will not allow me to connect to my Sonnet processor. Can’t do anything.

Update: developer says Sonnet cannot connect to the app via Bluetooth Low Energy, but can do so via Audiolink. My response— no it can’t. I’ve tried multiple times and it says “Audio processor not configured for use with AudioKey 2.” Why market an app for use with Sonnet if it’s not compatible?

Response from developer

ORIGINAL REPLY: Dear 'Willy Bob Joe', thanks for your review. Due to technical limitations, older generations of audio processors (such as SONNET) cannot be paired to our app directy via Bluetooth Low Energy. However, they can still be paired to the app via AudioLink. Please send an email to us at audiokey@medel.com and we'll be happy to provide further information or instructions. Thanks. UPDATED REPLY: Dear 'Willy Bob Joe', thanks for the update of your review. The error message points to the fact, that your audiologist configured your SONNET for the use with the 'FineTuner' remote control. However, in order to be used with the AudioKey 2 app, your SONNET needs to be configured for the use with 'FineTuner Echo and AudioKey'. Please get in touch with your audiologist so that your SONNET can be reprogrammed with the corresponding settings. Once that is done, you will be able to pair your SONNET to the app via AudioLink. Please send an email to us at audiokey@medel.com if you require further information. Thanks.

connectivity issues

this is definitely the worst part of being deaf this app fails to connect 95% of the time i use it. its 2022 fix this simple bluetooth stuff not that hard

Promise not kept

The app works, some of the time. Most of the time, though, it will not connect with the Rondo 3. Much better performance with Sonnet 2, but it’s lauded by Med-El as useful with both processors. Hardly.

Response from developer

UPDATED REPLY: Dear 'Franshanny', thanks for the update of your review. Are you working with mutiple devices (smartphone, tablet) at the same time? If your RONDO 3 is actively being used by one device, it will not connect to a second one at the same time. This might be the reason for your decribed issue. Could you please send an email to us at audiokey@medel.com? We will surely find a solution to your problem. Thanks.ORIGINAL REPLY: Dear 'Franshanny', thanks for your review. When it works, it works well.

I really love using this with audio steam for phone calls and streaming.

However, i end up having to go through whole configuration process almost daily. It just can’t maintain the connection. Drives me batty.

Then, sometimes it just absolutely won’t connect to the stream for a day to so. It suddenly works eventually, but I can’t make rhyme or reason out of why it works sometime and not others. I really need to be able to count on this.

Response from developer

Dear 'VolsProf', thanks for your review. We would like to apologize for the inconveniences caused and are happy to inform you about the AudioStream firmware update that will be released later today. This update addresses the connection issues you are experiencing and can be performed right on your smartphone within the AudioKey 2 app. As soon as the update is available on your device, you will receive a notification in the app.

Tweaking needed

Connectivity options need improvement. It took me many attempts to figure out how do a binaural Audiostream pairing and it’s balky. That included consulting the Facebook group. I know how to follow instructions.

Dear 'Booklady1', thanks for your review. We appreciate your feedback and will consider your suggestion for the future development of our app. In case you have further questions or suggestions, please send an email to us at audiokey@medel.com. Thanks.

Won’t pair

I am a CI recipient and I’m currently having the same issue as the “mom of two boys” did two months ago.My phone is updated and restarted, as is the device. Edit: I am able to pair through the Bluetooth setting on my phone but the app can’t “find” my device.

Wear/Speech Data Could Be Improved

I’m the father of a newly implanted young son (less than 1 year old). We have been really happy with all the physical devices and accessories MedEl has provided. They really do wonderful things. I would, however, like to see the wear/speech data broken down visually a bit more in the app through graphs/charts. Having an overall average displayed is great, but when you are fighting a young child to keep their processors on it would be helpful to see these numbers day by day. I know for me it would be encouraging to know we are making progress in keeping the processors on more than off.

Big problems

Currently this app won’t work at all for my bilateral sons. We are tech savvy and sonnet 2s will not pair. The Medel audiologist at headquarters was stumped. We worked on it for nearly an hour. Something is either wrong with the processors— not internally equipped— or the app doesn’t work for some users. The Bluetooth audiostream works but we can’t adjust the processors with audio key at all. It’s currently completely nonfunctional. We have latest update and the audio link can pair. But no processors. Two different phones, an iPad... we’ve tried them all.

Response from developer

Dear "mom of two CI bous", thanks for your review. We are already working hard on finding a solution to the pairing difficulties your sons are experiencing. You will be contacted by your MED-El audiologist as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

It does one useful thing

MedEl is still a bit in the Dark Ages technologically. However, this app at least does one useful thing. It allows me to control volume and program of my Cochlear implant processor from my phone without needing to carry around the Echo device all the time to do that job.
What it DOESN’T do is:
1. Allow me to stream audio directly from my phone to the processor (except for phone calls)
2. Adjust wind filter levels on the processor
3. Switch on and off the directional mic on my processor
4. Send a phone call (or audio streaming) to both the processor and a wireless earbud in the opposite ear (eg using Bluetooth 5)
I don’t use the MedEl AudioStream device (yes, yet another piece of kit to carry around and pay for), so perhaps there is something useful for people who use that.
