Super
We did have an issue with our first vehicle because the third-row seats would not fold down, but the team reacted immediately. They quickly picked up the vehicle and delivered a replacement without any hassle. Their responsiveness and commitment to customer satisfaction were truly impressive.
A huge thank you to everyone involved for making what could have been a frustrating situation completely stress-free. Excellent customer service, wonderful people, and an experience that exceeded our expectations. I would absolutely recommend Avis and their home delivery service!

Funeral
We were coming to see our brother in hospice. He passed away and his funeral was set for Monday I asked if we could pick up the car one hour early. One hour! You insisted that is was a change of reservation and the price would more than double to over $800 for five days in an average vehicle
You should be ashamed of yourselves charging a rapacious fee or even a cancellation fee. No more Avis for us.

Returning the car was apparently just the opening act.
I dropped it off, an Avis employee accepted it, and I went on with my life. A week later I get contacted and told the windshield is broken and somehow… it’s my problem.
Interesting business model. Maybe next week they’ll call and tell me I owe them for a flat tire, low washer fluid, or an asteroid strike.
At this point, I’m convinced renting from Avis is like leaving a casino. You think you’ve cashed out until someone runs after you into the parking lot yelling, “One more thing…”
My advice? Before returning an Avis rental:
* Hire a film crew.
* Record a 360° walkaround.
* Get three eyewitnesses.
* Have a police officer sign the inspection.
* Maybe call NASA to verify there aren’t any incoming meteors.
Because apparently “Your employee accepted the vehicle” isn’t enough.
If your return process allows damage to be blamed on customers days later, what’s the point of the return inspection?
I’d rather wrestle an alligator in a phone booth than rent from Avis again.
⭐☆☆☆☆ Would not recommend. The rental ends, but the surprise charges apparently have unlimited mileage.

Awful
I rented a minivan from Avis at Los Angeles International Airport. When I arrived, the vehicle that had been assigned to me had already been driven away by someone else, so I was given what was described as an “upgrade.” In reality, it was an older minivan with nearly 70,000 miles that was already showing significant wear and tear.
After driving to Ventura, just three days into my rental, the van displayed transmission failure warnings and became undrivable. I immediately contacted Avis to request a replacement vehicle. It took nearly an hour of being transferred between departments and waiting on hold before I finally reached someone who could help.
Unfortunately, the “solution” was incredibly disappointing. Rather than replacing my vehicle at the nearby Avis location in Ventura—which had replacement minivans and SUVs available—I was told the vehicle would need to be towed to Simi Valley. I was expected to ride in the tow truck, and the best replacement they initially offered was a Toyota Corolla.
This made absolutely no sense. I had rented and paid for a minivan because I was traveling with six people and our luggage. Offering a compact sedan as a replacement was not a realistic solution.
What was most surprising was how little flexibility Avis demonstrated. For a company of this size, it’s difficult to understand why they couldn’t leverage available vehicles at a nearby location to take care of a stranded customer—especially someone identified as a VIP customer.
Mechanical failures happen. What defines a company is how they respond when things go wrong. In my case, the response was slow, inconvenient, and completely failed to meet reasonable customer expectations.
This experience has seriously damaged my confidence in Avis, and I’ll be giving strong consideration to other rental car companies for future trips.
